I don't count calories, I don't measure, I don't use artificial sweetner, I don't necessarily do low carbs either. I eat HEALTHY. Always have. I've always liked fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, whole grains, brown rice, sweet potatoes, fish, and 1% milk. I just ate way to much of it. I also like BEER. :yikes: The band keeps me from eating to much, and prevents me from drinking beer. I eat like I've always eaten for the most part, I just eat a lot less. I'm not nearly as hungry. As for the exercise, it was a mental thing. Once I made the committment of the band, it was like "If I'm going to go to this level, I might as well go all the way." No turning back. Plus, once I lost weight, and kept it off, my knees felt better and I COULD exercise more. I try to avoid slider foods, but not in an obsessive way.

Ditto! It could be h'roids, a fissure, or something MUCH more serious. Rule out serious first.....

I have a bladder control problem. It's controlled with medication, but when I drink a lot of fluids, I tend to have accidents. My concern is with all this water we are supposed to drink. I'm not banded yet, but REFUSE to wear a diaper to be thin. Do any of you out there take detrol for bladder control and have problems with all the water and liquids??

I wrote the original post, and I'm proud to say I'm completely off bladder control medication. My OB/GYN told me it would be possible as I lost weight and he was right. I've been off the meds for 6 weeks now.

I've not had a colonic.... But my best girlfriend has one every 6 months or so. She told me that there is a tube that irrigates the colon with water. It is considerably more fluid than a standard enema, but that there is also a suction tube and that there is virtually no mess. She lays on her side on a table. I accepted this as fact. I was a bit surprised with those of you who mentioned sitting on the pot with toilet paper, etc. I guess there's more than one way to do it? -
THERE IS A DOWNSIDE TO THIS!! While it is flattering to get positive attention, sometimes the attention is not so positive. I recieved an anonymous email this week from a "secret admirer" that was very off color. Almost like a what a stalker would write. It was creepy and gross. He went into detail about writing my name on his body, and him wanting to guess who he is. He wants me to come to him.... Ha! Not in this century!!! It was very unnerving, and if I hear from him again, I'm going to report it.

Help me. I'm at work. I tried to eat lunch about an hour ago. tuna and cracker, and cooked veggies. I did okay. Didn't finish as I started to hiccup. Then the slime started. It won't stop. Every 10 minutes or so I toss up big wads of slime. No food. Just slime. I'm hanging over the trash bin. I had a fill last Friday. Have been fine up until now. I've been able to eat my meals. Smaller, but was doing fine. why now?......suggestions?????

<HR style="COLOR: #c9ced4; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c9ced4" SIZE=1> "If I were able to take a crap I would tell you." LOL LOL LOL.... As one who suffers from constipation more than I would like, I could really appreciate your sentiment!!!! You all are REALLY cracking me up today. Between this thread and the one about funny things that happen in the O.R. under anesthesia, my cheeks hurt from laughing!!! -
the quote does hit home on multiple levels. Food for thought. thanks.

After I lost about 50 pounds I was able to reduce my blood pressure medication from twice a day to once a day. It's ever so slowly continuing to drop. The doctor told me once it dipped below 100/50, it was time to get off it or reduce the one dose even further. I'm at about 110/65 now. At 50 pounds lost, I also reduced the dose of my thyroid medication. Not sure at this point if I will ever get off of it completely. I just recently, at 70 pounds lost, got off my bladder control medication. My OB/GYN told me that once I lost all the belly fat in my abdomen, I may not need it. He said the fat put weight and pressure on my bladder and made it more difficult to control. He was right. I've been off it now for about 6 weeks and I'm doing really good. The plus side of this is I've discovered that this particular medication was causing my chronic constipation. A nasty side effect. I'm feeling better than I have in a LONG time.

My last fill took two weeks to kick in. It lasted about a month or so and I was ready for another one, but I had lost so Doc wouldn't give me one for another 4 weeks. This one kicked in right away, and is stronger and more noticeable than any I've had before. I'm definately going to have to be more careful with size of bites, chewing, eating moist food, and stopping when the warning signs start. (ie: hiccups, pressure, gas, etc.)

Thanks for the support and advice. I've eaten three times since this happened yesterday, and no slime but DAMN am I restricted. Holy Cow!! I feel it after three bites. I'm sure to lose with this level of restriction. No more tuna for me. At least not dry.

I told them I was having some stomach issues resolved and left it at that. For the most part, people just assumed I was having my gallbladder removed. Then when I REALLY had my gallbladder removed 9 months later, I could see the gears spinning and them trying to figure it out. But some insensitive person announced my surgery to a room full of people at a luncheon here at work. I was livid. The cat was out of the bag then, so now everyone knows.....

I always ate a VERY healthy diet. I just ate to much of it. That's where the band came in, but the biggest help for me was EXERCISE. I was a couch potato. Now I'm not.

Funny.... I was told just the opposite from more than one source. I was told that if it floats you have to many bad carbs (like bread and chips) and to much fat in your diet. If you have lots of fiber from vegetable sources it will sink. there you have it. Aubrie's infinite wisdom. LOL LOL LOL...... this is hilarious. -
Craziest Things People Have Said Coming From Under General Anesthesia...
aubrie replied to kabeerah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've had numerous surgeries and I only had "drama" with a few of them. But they were good. I had shoulder surgery and when I woke up I was convinced I had been kidnapped and had been taken to Canada. I DEMANDED to know who kidnapped me and how the hell did I get into Canada without my passport? I told the nurses to call the U.S. embassy immediately. Too much television????? OMG another surgery I (purely by coincidence) had started my period while on the operating table. By the time I started to come to in recovery, I was quite a mess. I thought the stitches had popped open and I was bleeding to death. Totally freaked out. Scared the crap out of the nurses too. Once the nurses and I figured out what happened, I was SO EMBARRASSED!!! I told one surgeon in the OR the recipe for pumpkin pie. Like he really needed to know that then....... Don't you imagine that they've heard the craziest things in the world? -
How long after surgery did you wait to return to work/school?

I had mine done Thanksgiving week on a Monday. We had off Wednesday through Friday. I took a week, but only missed two days of work. :sneaky: -
saggy boobs... will they bounce back?
aubrie replied to Babe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started with a 42DD. I'm in a 38D right now but it's getting a little big and roomy, so I'm due for another fitting. I'm thinking a 36C. From age 16 to 31 I wore a 34B. I know I'll never wear that again, but I'd be real happy with a 36C. That's what I wore when I was breast feeding, and my husband thought the girls were perfect then. -
I have a 10 CC band with 5.6 cc in it. I got the .6 on Friday so it wasn't a very big fill. Glad to know the 2 hours of sliming happens to others. It was a first for me and I'm 14 months out. I was getting a little panicked. I usually have trouble with chicken. I have to cut it in microscopic pieces and put some kind of salsa or sauce over it to get it down comfortably. I've never had a bad problem with tuna. May have to add fat free miracle whip or something from now on.

Okay. I ran around with my arms in the air and leaned way over. No pineapple juice here. I didn't know anyone could produce so much crap!!! I had to go and empty my bin before anyone sees it! thank God they have plastic toss away liners. It took two hours, but it lessened and lessened. What a nightmare. Usually when I'm stuck I HURT!!! this didn't really hurt at all. I just kept sliming. What a wierd thing. It was not typical for me at all. Usually a sliming episode lasts about 5 - 10 minutes and it's done. Same for being stuck, except it hurts. This was just wierd. I guess no more tuna in my future. Bummer. That's a typical high protein lunch for me. I hope my fill from Friday is not to tight. Gggrrrrrrr....

I drive almost 100 miles to deal with emergencies. My doctor is good, as he comes to my city for fills and check ups once a month, but if I have a problem I have to drive. I don't mind. He's the best in South Texas, and worth every mile. I had a gallbladder emergency last August. My husband wanted to take me to the ER locally, but I refused. I wanted him. Thank God I had the good sense to do so. He had to completely unfill my band before they could do surgery on my bile ducts. (I ended up having two surgeries) There are no doctors locally familiar with that procedure. I wouldn't let a regular doctor near me. So for me, it's worth the extra effort and time. Not so pleasant when you're in dire pain, but it was in the long run.

Set tiny little mini goals for yourself. Whatever you do, don't get overwhelmed at this point. That is a trigger. Set a small, acheivable goal, and work towards it. If you make it, reward yourself. For example. Go 4 days with NO snacks. At the end of 4 days, if you do good, reward yoursself with a bubble bath. If you make it a week with no water during meals, paint your nails. If you make all your exercise appointments for that week, rent a movie you've been wanting to watch. Baby steps. You have to convince yourself that YOU are worth it!! Many victims of abuse have a deep concern that they're not consciously aware of, that they do not measure up in some way. That they did something to deserve being abused. You didn't. But as a child, that's hard to sort out, and you've carried it with you. Now it's part of your psyche. The therapist will help with all this. He/She will give you "homework". Some will be devastating, but get through it you must. Ask around and find a GOOD therapist. It will change your life. You'll need the support after the band. It's okay to ask for help with this. It's not your fault.

Good question. I've often wondered that myself. I know with meat, it chews down to more of a paste, but with salad and soups and stuff, I really don't know.
