  1. Hello everyone, Here is the info of the Surgeon that performed my VSG: Advanced Laparoscopic Associates Hans J. Schmidt, MD, FACS (Personally did mine) Douglas R. Ewing,MD,FACS (Assisted) Amit Trivedi ,MD Sebastian R. Eid,MD www.lap-associates.com 201-646-1121 377 Jersey Ave, Suite 470, JC,NJ, 07302 or 35 Plaza Professional Center, 81 Route 4W, Suite 401, Paramus, NJ, 07652 I am a Physician as well, so I did my research first. This group has been awesome, so have my results, which you will find on my other posts! I had my procedure done at Jersey City Medical Center and my experience was incredible! I highly recommend this group, so much so, that a close family member of mine has followed in my foot steps with the same terrific results... They also operate out of Hackensack University Medical Center if that's your preference... You won't regret it! This is a life altering experience! Best of luck!

    Anyone Regret Your Sleeve?

It's been a while since my last post, but I must say... It's been 14 months, I've lost a total of 112 lbs! My only regret remains the fact that I didn't have it done sooner! I've exceeded my weight loss goal by 7 lbs without any effort on my part. You have to all hang in there, you will be able to resume a regular diet. I eat whatever I want and do not deprive myself from any cravings. Very thrilled with this life altering/saving procedure. Save a pair of pants from your pre surgery size and put it on every once and a while so that you can really appreciate the transformation. This will put a real perspective on things and erase any possible doubts that you might be having...

My only regret is that I didn't have it done sooner!!!
  5. So... It's been 21 days since my VSG surgery. I feel absolutely terrific! 24.5 lbs lost so far! Currently losing about 1/2 lb/day... No complaints at all! I fill up with 4oz of mushy food and never feel hungry! Best of all, I'm sleeping better since my obstructive sleep apnea is already greatly improved, I have much more energy, my joint pains are practically gone, and I already feel 10 years younger! My only regret so far is that I didn't do this sooner!

We all lose at different rates, but the most important thing is not to get discouraged! Actually slower weight loss is much more healthier... It's taken us years to put the weight on, so a few months to lose it is nothing in the grand scheme of things! Hang in there!

    Done!

Well, today is my 5th day post VSG... So far, no regrets... Family just had a huge Brunch with all the trimmings... I felt no hunger, but the temptation is still there to reach for that Bacon! Pain is all but gone. The only issue that I can report is some diaphoresis and fatigue when I try to exert myself for for than an hour of activity... Probably a little hypoglycemia... Here are some of my details... VSG with a 36fr bougie, 5th day post op, on Clear liquids only (4 oz/hr), 42 y/o male, starting weight 273lbs (5'5"), current weight 261.5, goal weight 170 lbs in 1 year or sooner. Bring it on!!!

Tinacasa, There is mild pain and minimall nausea the night of your post op day. You will have some difficulty sleeping that night, trying to find a comfortable position.... Day 1 post op, i was walking with easy.mild post op temp of 99.9, once. It all went away with one Percocet and one Anti-emetic... Slept better, nothing like being home! Day 2, I experienced very transient esophageal/gastric spasms that resisted to my back... Reslved with Tylenol and rest.. No nausea! Day 3, felt terrific! All pain and spasms are gone...I take empiric Tylenol every 6 hours.. By Day 4, I was totally asymptomatic regarding the pain... Felt that I could back to work... However, I've began to feel slightly hypoglycemic when I tried to organize my office. It began after about an hour in to my project.... Day 5... Best day so far! Went to a department store with my wife, but I still had to go sit in the car and take a break due to the hypoglycemia... Tomorrow I will start keeping some hard candy with sugar (I recommend Werther's Coffee with Caramel) which should resolve this issue... I plan on returning to work this Thursday.... Wee all react slightly different and it depends on what kind of work you do, but I would pan to be out for one full week....especially if you work on your feet or if it's exertional...

    Done!

Hello Emily, Initially, I will be opting for low carbs with the infrequent treat... Actually, this is the recommended transition, to avoid an entity called "Dumping Syndrome"... This is also the best way to burn your stored fat and maintain or build muscle mass, since most of your intake is protein... On that note, I do know of VSG patients that have done great with smaller portions from the get go.... Most likely, I will convert once I have achieved my goal weight, if the low carb diet become to difficult to continue. Hope this helps...

I'm only 5 days in to this, but so far I have absolutely no regrets... I'm a physician so I went in with minimal questions.... Approval for the procedure is insurance company dependent. The qualifications are pretty standard... BMI and comorbidities...
