  1. I would consider myself a huge success if I lose the same amount as you! You are doing great and don't let those comments attach to you. Keep up the good work! And threads like this remind me why I am not telling anyone about my surgery! :fear:

To tell or not to tell...

I told my teenage daughter. I don't think I could have gotten around that. She was very supportive and that surprised me. I don't plan on telling anyone else initially. I may feel like opening up about it later, but I guess I am just a private person. Sorry your sisters disappointed you. I bet they will come around once they know you are ok and happy!

    tomorrow the big day

Best of luck with the surgery! Let us know how it goes!
  4. I can't wait to see my collar bones again! I used to love those things... :bounce:
  5. Hello! I have my consultation with Dr. Marema in early October. I was curious how long you stayed in St. Augustine after the surgery. I am in the Panhandle and will be traveling about 5 1/2 hours. Hope you are recovery quickly!

    Binging prior to surgey

I am happy to keep reading posts like Denise's that mention a change in taste for sweets, etc. I am really hoping that the surgery will give my stomach a clean slate to eat correctly. I tend to stress eat myself which feels similar to a binge. I feel horrible afterwards and want to stop that destructive behavior.
  8. I have read that whole forum. That is why I am pretty set on the sleeve at this point! *scary* I was already concerned about maintaining the band long term and paying for possible complications since I am a self pay. My insurance has a total WLS exclusion :( I can't wait to meet Dr. Marema! Glad to hear you like him!

  9. Forgive me for not reading completely. You said you are still doing the insurance stuff. You will likely have your surgery before mine then! We need to keep tabs on each other!

  10. Oh wow! That's great! I have my consultation with him on Oct. 6th and will probably schedule for early January. I am discussing lap band and sleeve, but I think I am pretty set on the sleeve at this point. Are you scheduled yet?

    Monday's the day!

    Hope it all goes well!
  12. I had a stone in the bile duct too. I passed out from the pain! Surgery was simple with a quick recovery though.

Things I can't wait to do!

I look forward to the possibility of not thinking about food or fat or dieting constantly. The freedom that will come from that means more to me than any of the other things that will come with it. This vicious cycle of losing and gaining has literally become torture.
  14. Hope all went well and your recovery is quick and painless!

    I have an Addiction...

Me too I have my initial consultation on Oct. 6th, so I am reading and reading!

    feeling the blues

I was just thinking this same thing driving home from the mall. I telecommute so I don't usually have to worry about work clothes, but I have a conference coming up in a week. I had to go shopping and I just wanted to cry. So tired of buying fat clothes. I wish this surgery was over yesterday. I have my consultation at the end of the month, but will have to wait until January for various reasons. I am just ready to start my new life. I have been researching and thinking for almost a year too, so I hear ya!
  17. My insurance also has a WLS exclusion. I have chosen Dr. Marema in St. Augustine, FL and the cash pay is $18,000 which includes BLIS insurance for complications. The insurance was important to me being a self-pay (just in case). It is a little more expensive, but he has a really awesome reputation and he does the surgery with only one incision in the belly button. I have some cash saved up, will max out my 2012 flexible spending account at work, and will put the rest on a low interest rate credit card. I have to wait until early 2012 to have my surgery so I can use the flex account.

    Gallbladder Problems?

That is so true. I had emergency gall bladder surgery 2 years ago and that was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. I definitely thought I was having a heart attack. It was so bad, that I passed out at work. (embarrassing!!) The surgery itself was very simple, however, and I only notice a little upset in my system when I eat greasy foods. Life has been fairly normal after having it removed.
