Do you look older since you lost weight?
KateMarie replied to LynRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plastic surgeon said it's very common for weight loss patients to come to him for a face lift, including 25 year olds. I'm hoping my face 'levels' out as I maintain my current weight. -
Nissen Nissen Fundoplication after sleeve
KateMarie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone had a Nissen fundoplication after being sleeved? Is this even possible? -
I'm about 15 months post sleeve and have had complications since the 6 month mark. Severe reflux, nausea and pain. It is all day, every day. I've been on numerous meds with little relief. Has anyone else dealt with Bile Reflux? I've read that the most common fix is the Roux n y...I did the sleeve to avoid that surgery but if it stops the pain and allows me to lose the rest of my weight, I will do it. I haven't lost a single lb in 9 months because I eat crackers all day to keep the vomitting to a minimal, especially at work. I regret this surgery every single day.

Anyone have a hiatal hernia/sleeve repair surgery?
KateMarie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anyone had a hiatal hernia , acid reflux surgery and sleeve repair post sleeve? Painwise, this has been worse than the orginal sleeve but I now have some relief from the relux. It was so bad that I had pneamonia 5 times since being sleever 9/11, my throat and nose were raw from the acid 'fumes' and I haven't vomitted since the surgery this past tuesday 2/12. -
For the first time, I get to report a loss! I am 203.4 today. I have reported a weight since the thread started. This 7lb loss feels amazing and so motivating. I'm at 115lbs total loss. :-D

The surgeon is going to do another surgery to fix the reflux. It's so severe that the radiologist that did the upper GI was afraid to let me lie flat once she saw the amount of acid being pushed back up. I'm going to start the Basic Bootcamp this week. That is a great idea. If I could just see small progress, I wouldn't feel like such a failure. THanks for the support. I feel defeated. :-(

Each week, I watch as my email fills up with the successes of the people of the page. I have yet to post because I have not had a successful week in almost 6 months. I'm filled with jealousy and disappointment. The last six months have been filled with complications, pain, asthma, vomitting and nausau and now, an additional surgery is scheduled. I am 11 months out and after dropping 100lbs in 6 months, I haven't lost a lb in 5 months. I'm not giving up. I'm on a new medication to deal with the extreme acid reflux that leaves a horrible burning in my stomach and throat. Now, I have less urge to eat to soak up that nasty acid feeling. I've worked out a meal plan and My goal for this week is to post that I've lost 2lbs on the 9/1 Super Saturday Weigh In. Wish me luck. :-D

The Last Time I Ask About Hair....i Promise!
KateMarie replied to jailynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9.5 months post op and 100lbs down. I have also lost about 50% of my hair. I take 10,000mg of biotin a day. I aim for 70gm of protien daily. Some days I get more. Some less. I just read up on silica. It's supposed to work wonders in our situation. I'm really hoping the hair comes back soon. I'm getting married in just over three month and don't want to be bald! Good luck. -
Has anyone had to have an acid reflux surgery after being sleeved? I'm 9 months out and have horrible acid reflux that has lead to severe ashtma. The dr is discussing doing another surgery. I'm almost hoping for the surgery. At this point, I'm eating more to try to 'soak up' that nasty acid feeling that I have all day.

Stalled At 2 Weeks Post-Op.
KateMarie replied to KristieAtkinson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in your boat a few times since my sleeve on 9/13. Everyone said it will pick back up. They were right. It does. I know it's hard to understand because of the limited calories but it's has more to do with your body fighting the starvation mode. When this happens to me, I don't weight myself for a week. Try that. Keep going. Drink a lot of water. Good luck! -
Leaping my glorious boobs does suck but I'm almost 100lbs less than 8 months ago and I started training for a 5k today. I will take my Heath over big boobs any day. Plus, I wa serious about buying new ones. I will have perky full D's!

I have been a DD since I was 15 regardless if I was 135lbs or 300lbs. Now, I'm down Almost a 100lbs and they are so gross. They look like deflated balloons. My boobs were always my 'good feature'. Not any more. I will be buying new ones too.

After reading many websites, I realized that I could use a little (or a lot) of support. This site is just what I need. My surgery is scheduled for 9/13. I am on day 7 of a 14 day preop liquid diet. It is very difficult. I completely understand why the diet is needed but if I could stick to liquids only for 14 days, would I really need to have my body operated on? Why can't I use this same will power and lose the weight the traditional way? I know why. I know myself. That might work for a few weeks but I would break. My binges are small ones either. In the last year, I have regained about 60 lbs. that I had lost during dating a man that wanted 'perfection'. When things suddenly dissoved, I gave up. So here I am. I come from a family of thin attractive people. I am the only large person.. Some support my decision, some don't. My brother and sister in law spent a few hours trying to talk me out of it this afternoon. I even started doubting myself. Still, I know that I have to do this for myself. On august 19th, I was 311. I started the liquids at 306.6. One week in, I am at 294.4. If anyone has any advice, please don't hesitate to contact me. ~Kate

I'm seven months out this week. I basically stopped losing weight around the forth month. I've lost 1lbs in a month for a total of 16 since 1/1. I can't get the eating under control and feel myself slipping into a deep depression which doesn't help the eating. I need to regroup and get motivated but it's easier said then done. Anyone else struggling?
-
I started at 311.5. I'm at 218.5 now. My dr set my goal at 145. My goal is 180 and then I will see how I feel. I'm 5'10". I don't need to be a size 5. I have almost 40lbs to my first goal. As for junk, I'm eating a tiny bit of chocolate occasionally but not much. My 'junk' is Peanut Butter crackers. I hated peanut butter before surgery. Now, I have this gross acidy feeling in my stomach and mouth at all time so I eat the crackers to 'soak' it up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with the 92lbs but to not see that scale move in months is so discouraging. Especially since this is the time when we should be losing the most. The depression from lack of losing just triggers the eating. It's a vicious cycle. Im going to take some of the advice and start journaling again and go back to liquids for a few days to 'detox' of the crap that I ate. I

The sleeve works but you have to be committed. I blame the stress in my life for my lack of motivation. It's not an excuse. I should be stricter. I should eat less often. I can't blame the surgery. Just myself.

I'm 6 month out and for the last 3 months, I've lost very slowly. I need this accountability. Count me in!

Hair Advice Please! I'm Freaking Out!
KateMarie replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 6 months post op, My headful of dark curls are gone. I'm left with thin strangly hair that doesn't do anything. I take 10,000 mg of Biotin. I'm going to start the Rogaine today. I'm also going to up my protien. I've slacked the last 2 months do to stress but I'm back on track. -
1200-1500 Calories...really?
KateMarie replied to brandymarie81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr's deit was liquids for the first 6 weeks. That was 3 protien drinks and two yogurts totalling about 600 calories. During the weight loss stage, he said not to get over 800 calories. 1200-1400 sounds high. -
I suffered from PCOS like many other overweight women. I am just over 6 months post op. My cycle is unpredictiable. I bleed for a month straight and since, have been on for about 50% of the time. I've been under a large amount of stress, so I'm sure that didn't help. My surgeon said its' very typical for the cycle to be off that first year.

I was told that I was to never take Ibuprofen. My surgeon said it will eat up our tiny stomachs. Be careful!!!

In the beginning, I only told a select few about my surgery. Now that I've lost 91.1 lbs people are really noticing and making comments. I've told more people that I've had surgery but I also add that it's only reduced my stomach size. I am still the one that decides what goes in my mouth. My family, on the other hand, is embarrassed by my surgery. My brother and sister both created cover stories during my recovery time. That made me feel even worse. This is a long tough journey. We don't have any reason to be embarrassed or ashamed. Be Proud. Kate

66lbs is a decent amount but when I have 171.5 total to lose, it's a drop in the bucket. I started out at 311.5 lbs. I'm 5'11" and my dr has set an unrealistic goal of 140lbs for me. At 200lbs, I'm a size 11. My 19 year old daughter is 145lbs in a size 5. I don't need to be that thin. I think his goal has put me in a bad place. Thanks for the words of advice. I am fighting hormones this week and everything is so dramatic. I've been on my period more than I've been off since surgery. Blah! Good luck everyone.
