9-22-11 sleeve date siblings?
Aussiegirl replied to Shoppingbeemom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank goodness for hubby's. I am glad he is helping with all the kids and house stuff so you can get yourself up to speed. All is well with me. I am going much better than I ever expected to be going. My liquids are going in well, I get there or close most days. Tho having Water alone is a hard on my stomach but water down with some cordial is easier to get down. I am on purees which are also going well, learning when to stop etc. I am thankful, I was soo worried before hand that it would be hard, and prepared myself emotionally for a really tough recovery, so it feels easy (touch wood). I am soo sorry you are having such a hard time with the recovery. I hope it will keep getting better for you too. Keep me updated on your progress....sending good health and recovery vibes your way. -

Wannabee, I had to stay an extra night as well. Dont be jealous of the puree's, I felt like it started a bit early and went back onto liquids again today just to give myself some more time to recover. Will try some thocker things tommorow I think. Hope you are recovering well. -

I hear ya, I look like I have been in a fist fight, bruises all over my body. But otherwise (thankfully) I am doing well. Get tired by about midday but then have a rest and am OK again. I do not know how people do it with kids, I really dont envy you that at the moment. I hope the family is helping you in your recovery. -
How are Sept 22nd sleevers doing?
Aussiegirl replied to Mabalb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also a Sept 22nd sleever. I am doing well, much better than I had expected to be doing. Had a bit of bad first night with some throwing up, but a few pain killers and nausea medication and that settled, and I slept through the night dispite being in the ICU, and other patients having to be resubmitted to surgery and whole heap of things going on. Since then it has been getting better and better. I have minimal bruising and almost none on my stomach. I am starting pureed food today and so far that has gone ok, though eatting such small amounts. Even went to the movies yesterday and enjoyed my Water instead of Snacks. Hope others are going as well. -

Hey, I just wanted to check in and see how everything is going with you? Hope your surgery has gone well. Here is my update. Thursday, i got to the hospital and there was a bit of confusion about my room (have had 4 now), then got taken up to surgery. I was very stressed before the op, questioning whether I was doing the right thing etc. My blood pressure got really high. But they gave me some initial drugs to relax me a bit, and a few of the nurses (male) were quite the eye candy, so that made it a bit easier. One of them was just holding my hand and I was like you can keep doing that. After that I was knocked out, and waking up in the ICU. I did have a bit of a hard time at first throwing up but that seems to have calmed down now. I slept most of the first night, despite being in the ICU (and a few other patients were having a bad time), I just had my pain killers and slept through the night. They moved me out into a ward the next morning, room with a good down to Sydney harbour, and my own room. I have had very little pain since the operation but a fair amount of gas which is not fun. My doctor had me on nil by mouth for 36 hours, which thankfully today has stopped. Can now drink cordial, tea and lots of Water. The fluids are going down surprisingly well. The cordial tho is making me a bit sick as I have not had sugar for such along time. But all in all (touch wood) everything has gone alot better than I had expected. Hopefully I will get to go home tommorow. They wanted to keep me in a bit longer cause of the throwing up after surgery and seeing as I am not self pay there is no hurry to send me home. BUt it will be nice to be in my own bed, Once again, hope to hear from you soon and that everything has gone well for you. -

I definitely think it was the diet. But I guess I have learned for afterwards. Tommorow is D- Day. So feeling very nervous now. New Zealand was fun but it was interesting to see how much food plays a part in social interactions. The whole food thing was very hard, Lets just hope my liver has shrunk enough. Good luck with your travels....Hope everything goes well your surgery and recovery (as I do mine lol). Check in after you are up and about, we can compare recovery stories. -

Congrats on the 8pounds that is amazing...hope you are still going strong. Must be hard with the pancakes around and not being able to eat them. My stomach or maybe my head would have been calling out for them. Hope the colonoscopy went well. My diet was going OK, cept I can barely stand the taste, texture of these Optiafast stuff anymore, they are making me ill everytiime I eat them. I did cheat yesterday, as I was out for a work lunch and had a seafood salad, which was really some shrimp and smoked salmon (fresh) with lettuce. However it made me sooo ill afterwards I am fearful of how things will go down after the op. My body did not like food....very odd sensation. I am at the airport waiting for my flight to NZ, looks like it will be full of Aussies going to the Rubgy, there is green and gold everywhere. Should be an interesting flight. Hope you enjoy your camp! I will check in after I get back...tell you some stories...and get ready for surgery -

No room for padding in those rugby matches lol. Men are a bit crazy in my experience, especially aussie and kiwi men, any excuse to get naked...its quite odd. My diet is going well, I am in ketosis, I feel every symptom. I had the biggest wave of energy on Sunday/Monday like I couldnt sit still, now all the other fun symptoms, nausea, fatigue and feeling cold. And the taste is my mouth is probably the worst of all the symptons, I have been chewing on sugar free gum constantly. But strangely I dont really feel hungry, maybe cause I am still able to eat, but generally just dont want or need to. And I am loosing weight, approx 10pounds (in 5 days). This morning was the first morning where my weight has stayed exactly the same, the other days it has been jumping numbers. While the above is not exactly what I would call fun, I know it is the beginning of someting, I look forward to the end of October when things will be looking up. I am trying to be positive about everything, it is my goal to not let things get me down through the next coming weeks. You know keep an eye on the light at the end of the tunnel ya know. What do you get to have on your liquid phase? Soups or only clear liquids/broths etc. -

Now you are talking my language, I love love love Strawberry margaritas, well most margaretas I like the cranberry juice on the rocks, for the initial stages...no-one will need to know it doesnt have a dash of vodka in it. I agree it would be so hard to have to give up alcohol as well as food, if I drank it everyday. Talk about detox. We can bring it back in eventually, everything in moderation. I will let you know of all the fun we are having.....being single (me) I will be checking out the fit rugby players. They also have naked rugby competition that i thnk would be funny to see (or not see) as it is freezing cold down there . Are you almost ready for your liquid diet? -

I've got to say, WOW, New Zealand!!! I hear it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. I'm going to a church camp with my potty training kids...I want to go with you! lol. They do have everything from zip lines to Water sports to keep us occupied and We will have a great time. They are not putting me on Optifast, I go straight to clear liquids before and after surgery. I imagine I will be board to death with clears after this. 5 lbs in 2 days!!?!! WOW, that has to feel great! Give yourself a pat on the back for me. It will be fun, going to see the Rugby world cup...definitely will be a good distraction. Tho will be hard being around all the drunk people and not being able to drink. Tho I am not a big drinker, i enjoy the odd social drink You are welcome to ditch the potty training kids (leave them with hubby) and join us in NZ Luckily for me NZ is just a few hours flight from here. I will see if i can post some pics when I get back. Atleast being around people will be help keep the nerves down. I am not looking forward to clears either, but luckily I am not on them before, so am hoping it wont be too bad having them afterwards as i will be recovering. Tho I imagine I will be over liquids quickly. But should be happily on full food by the time I get to New York in November.... BTW Back patted! Thank you! -

Yikes, I am so glad I do not need to have a colonoscopy, atleast I havent been told I need to yet. I am surprised I am not really hungry on the Optifast diet, i get the occasional twang but then it goes. I am shocked I lost like 2.5kgs (approx 5pounds) in 2 days. Wonder what it will be on the surgery date. I believe positivity and determination is a good start on not having pain after surgery. I am not sure that I wont have pain after surgery but I am sure that I dont want it to get me down. I have planned for a pick me up every few days, having flowers delivered at different days etc. I am spending the weekend preparing for after the surgery, making some broths, organising my clothes by sizes. Next weekend I will be in New Zealand til the day before the op, so wont be able to next weekend. Also means I wont be stressing about what I am going to do.. How do you plan to spend the weekend before the event -

Hey how is all your prep going? I replied the other day but it does not seem to have saved. I have started my pre-op diet, so far so good. A little under 2 weeks to go. I dont have children but I do hope that one day they are in the card. I have a 3 yo nephew, and my sister in law has twins on the way. I look forward to running around more with them. You are doing well with 6 kids...i dont know I could handle that! -
Hope all those sleeved so far are recovery well. Good luck to the up and coming surgeries.

I have told my immediate family (mum, dad, brother, sister in law), my best friends and some friends from work. Everyone is really supportive of me. There is obviously some concern about the risks but everyone is rooting for me to succeed. I think (similar to yourself) they have seen all the work I have done to try loose it and recently the amount of exercise injuries that I have had over the last year or so. I will have my cousins 40th birthday the 2nd weekend after my surgery so I will decide whether I say anything to the rest of the family. My mum is a worry wart too, I think she will drive me crazy when I am trying to recover. The 22nd will come around too quickly I am sure. My work is keeping my crazy busy. How old are your kids? Bring on the smaller groups, breath out in safety lol -
Good luck everybody..hope it all goes well

I am looking forward to buying new clothes, goal clothes. I am headed to New York in November (it was already planned) and shopping for all different size clothes and getting goal clothes. I am looking forward to not having to get seatbelt extenders on the plane. I am trying to work on goals that are not a specific weight related, like I want to be less, ALOT less but what that end goal looks like in numbers I dont know but I will in other things like being able to go for runs without stopping/walking, shopping in normal size stores (or buying really cheap clothes that i can throw out after one wear lol). But mainly having a healthy balanced life....ok on a tangent here..sorry. I like the idea of a housekeeper, I am sure your family will too. I am lucky my mum is coming to look after me and she cant help but clean. I havent tried isopure. I will have to get my head around the protein options for when I am in the US. What do your family say about the surgery? -

Thanks Congratulations on your new man! I too hope to have as much fun. Not sure I am that young, wish I had done it a few years ago now (but I chickened out then, this time I am very sure) But I guess you are never too old to fall in love. -
Thanks Gem! Good luck with your op, looks like it is close now!

I am excited, scared and a 100 different emotions. I am taking everything one day at a time. Luckily I do not need to fly to another country to ge tthe procedure done, just catch a cab 10 minutes from home. I am starting to think about the pre-op work my doctor has prescribed..Not looking forward to optifast, especially since I can not normally stomach milkshakes. I had my last blow out meal on the weekend, went out with my friends and had seafood with abandon and champagne. Then we finished the night sharing some macaroons. Such fun! Have you any final plans? I have also started planning for post op with things to help me lighten up when I am having a bad day, organising flowers to be delivered etc. -
I am getting sleeved on the 22nd in Sydney Aus.

Hi All, I have enjoyed this thread. I am due to get "sleeved" on the 22nd of Sept, and was wondering what it is like to be single after being sleeved. I too am 35 (almost) 36. I am making the change to be a healthier, fitter, more active me. But I would be lying if I didnt say that I also hoped that it would help me be more open to meeting a "nice" guy. I have had passing things with quite a few nice guys but havent ever let them in, which I think in the end is why we are not together. All I can say is bring on the next chapter.
