Nothing is working! (tmi)
Rebel replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SAME HERE, it was day 5 I think for me. It was bad.. I now take a cap of miralax per day to avoid this. -
September 27th is my date!! Now my marriage has gone from bad to worse!!
Rebel replied to HappyFace's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Husband reacted similarly to my decision to have surgery. Partly I believe because it was one of the few times that I took a stand on something and did not let it go when he disagreed. I spent a lot of time praying and atthe same time kept moving forward with my plans. I attended the seminar and let him know but made myself not talk about it to him afterward which was difficult for me. I told him that I submitted my paperwork and if God's will I would be approved. 2 weeks later I was approved. I spoke to him then and he said we may not be able to afford it. I prayed about it and once again God cleared the way. When it came time to pick my surgery date, I told him that I loved him and that I was not doing this to hurt him or to get thin and leave him. In fact I was doing this to get healthy so I could grow old with him and hold my grandchildren some day. That next day I began to see a change. I consulted him when picking my date and he was with me for every step from then on. He took vacation when I had surgery so he could be home to help me the first week.he has become my biggest supporter and cheerleader and I could not imagine doing this without him. I will be praying for you. -
When will i notice?
Rebel replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 9 days out and have lost 25 so far including the 11 pounds preop. I can tell in my clothes already and was able to fit into some 18 jeans that I previously could not get on. Problem is with my incisions they are still pretty painful so for now I am stuck wearing elastic banded pants until I heal a bit more. I was miserable the first 5 days and then on day 6 seemed to turn a corner. Hang in there, I promise it gets better. -
HOW can u possibly get 60+grams of Protein without supplements??
Rebel replied to Sunny702's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I am one week out from surgery and am struggling with this as well. I found Isopure protein drinks (the grape frost one tastes like grape koolaid). It has 60 grams of carbs in 16 ounces. -
Weighed this morning and what to my wondering eyes did appear, 199 on the scale. (Did you think I was going to say reindeer). I hit ONEderland today. It's been quite a while since I've seen it. Very exciting. Almost makes up for the food I'm not eating... Almost. (SIGH).. Day 9 Post Op and I am feeling so much better. Actually drove my son to school today and went to the grocery store. I had to pick up a few essentials. Getting in/out of the car was a bit painful but the driving part was okay. It definitely tired me out though. I am now adding drinkable yogurt & strained creamed Soups to my eating plan. The weight is coming off but man am I ready to eat something, anything. Heck, I'd settle for a bowl of Cereal or a bowl of regular Soup with noodles... I noticed my tongue is a bit white and some on the board say this is ketosis which means I am burning my fat stores. Well, hallelujah for that I guess. 13 days and I get to have canned chicken or tuna, thin mashed potatoes and more. I can't wait. I am struggling now to get in my 60 oz of fluids & Protein per day. I am drinking Powerade Zero, Crystal Light, Carnation Instant Breakfast/Sugar Free, Drinkable Yogurt, Cranberry/Apple (Diluted 50%) and today I picked up some SF Kool-Aid. Trying to keep it as varied and interesting as possible. And I just added the dose of Miralax per day to my eating plan as well. My Hubby & Son are my cheer leaders and are so supportive. I couldn't do this without them and without each one of you. Any time I am feeling down or have a question I can log on and somewhere my question has already been answered or someone's success or similar feelings inspire me. Thank you everyone.

I am so glad you posted this. I had no idea that they send our removed portion of stomach off for labs but I guess it is a great thing that they do. You are the second person I have heard of this happening to in the past week or so. The other person mentioned this happening to her Sister. I am so happy for you that your surgery provided a double blessing in this way. Keep your chin up, know that everything happens for a reason. I am so glad you went thru with your surgery and as a result will live a healthier and longer life. Take care and know we are all here if you need to vent..

Steri-strips - when did yours come off?
Rebel replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Use some nail polish remover on the bandaid gum and it will come right off. -
My Husband was not supportive at first but once he saw how determined I was and I explained to him that I was doing this to prolong my life And not to leave him or suddenly start dressing trashy he became supportive. He has become my strongest cheerleader and I cant imagine Getting thru the recovery and life changes without him. I secretly hope That he will decide to have this as well but know that has to be his decision.

Surgery is tomorrow!
Rebel replied to DallasMomofTwins's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was 9/6 and I remember having anxiety up until my surgery time. The pain afterward was a bit more than I expected and made me have A bit of buyers remorse initially. But, that was just the pain talking. Just take 1 day at a time. Sip, walk and take ur meds if u need them. I feel better every day. I cant wait to have semi solids though. Hang in there. -
I agree. Please don't feel like we are ganging up on you but you definitely don't want a leak. I have heard horror stories from people that didn't wait to introduce the next phase and were on liquids for months instead of the few intended weeks . I had surgery on 9/6 and believe me I am SO READY to chew something.. but I am waiting cause I do not want to cause any damage. Plus I have to start adhering to eating rules now or this won't be successful for me. Still having bad hunger pangs though so if anyone has any tips, please share them.

Taking it one day at a time.. It didn't get here overnight and it certainly ain't leaving that way either.

Raine that's an awesome story. Thanks for sharing.

all i want to do is sleep...
Rebel replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 days post op and feeling miserable. My left side pulls constantly, I have been dry heaving since gettin home from the hospital yesterday and have a bit of blurred vision. So please excuse any typos. I am having buyer's remorse as well. ALl I want to do is sleep. I wake every 1.5 hours though amd walk, do my respiratory therapy and drink another ounce of something. I have been taking prvacid and gasx and they are helping some but I am having strong hunger pangs as well. Nothing tastes good. I am trying to drink a Protein shake today as my 1 ounce every 15 minuts. But, I know I have missed alot of them since I keep sleeping so much. I am praying for all of us to get better. For now, I am a bit depressed and miserable. -
I am on the pre-diet now, day 13 and some days are better than others. I remember on day 3 considering postponing my surgery so I could have one last Quarter Pounder. I was stressed at work, had a headache and just knew it would make me feel better. But, I didn't give in and pressed on and each day it has gotten a bit easier. The main thing is to drink lots of Water, a lot of times we feel hungry when we are actually thirsty. The Protein shakes & bars are a lifesaver as well. My doctor prescribes a two week pre-diet consisting of 5 slim fast shakes/bars and a sensible meal of baked/grilled meat (5oz) and 2 cups of non-starchy vegetables. I cannot tell you how great that one meal is!! Whatever I am having (Ground Beef Patty, Tilapia) it is the BEST I have ever tasted.

Hello, I am having surgery this week and have also dealt with both good & bad reactions from some of my co-workers. My family is very supportive thank Goodness and most of my co-workers as well. But, there's one that told me not to do this, that I was having elective surgery and that I should just join her at the gym 3 x a week instead. She told me that I should just diet etc. I told her that I had done all of the research, this was Dr. supported and insurance approved and that I had prayed about it, etc. God has been there every step of the way and will continue to be. Also, I have lost and gained over the past 20 years and it has gotten me where I am today. Nowhere. I made this decision (an informed one) after 6 months of researching every option prior to ever going to a seminar, etc. I am ready to move onto the next chapter of my life and leave these co-morbidities behind. The pre-diet is rough but each day it gets easier. I know in my heart that I am doing the right thing. Go with your gut, trust your instincts. You are the one that has to take this journey. Everyone has weaknesses, mine is food. My friend (the one with the advice) smokes 1-2 packs a day but is rail thin. You can be thin and still not be healthy. I am doing this for my overall health. Sure, it will be nice to buy something off the rack in a regular deparment store but that is not the reason I am doing this surgery. I want to live and be here to see my son graduate, get married and hold my grandkids in my lap. I just keep the end goal in mind when some days are rougher than others and keep God at the forefront of my mind and He has never failed me. Best of luck to you and hope to see you on the loser's bench. I'll save you a seat.

Abnormal EKG??? Oh no....
Rebel replied to PhatGurl80's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had an abnormal EKG but had done a stress test in April that was normal. I just had to send my surgeon a copy of the test and I was cleared for surgery. Woo Hoo. God is great. I am so ready to move forward with the next chapter of my life. Next week cannot come soon enough. This board has been so helpful to me pre-op and I am sure it will be post-op as well. Who knows, at some point I may actually be able to help someone else with their questions. -
countdown to 9/6.. It's almost time.
