I Cheated On My Pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet... Should I Be Nervous Now?
Thomas CPA replied to Kendall Ann's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
preop is not a function of bmi or weight per se it is what the doctor/insurance want. The typical is to lose 10% prior to surgery to shrink fatty liver but that will not happen in 14 days. Part of the prep is to clean out the stomach (at least day before) for the surgery. I am with Kaiser, my preop was 1 day - the day before nothing to eat after Breakfast except liquid and morning off nothing even if brushing teeth, spit out Water don't swallow. One moment cheating not so bad but you can't have the Cookies or things with seeds for at least 4 to 6 weeks post op so small things don't get lodged into staple line inside the stomach. -
Pre Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet Struggles
Thomas CPA replied to mandylala12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will be fine. It does not have to be clear liquids. You can have things like protein shakes, apple sauce, mashed potatoes. I also had mashed peas and other mashed foods. The doctor will or should give you a list of things. Even in hospital the diet was water, tea, apple sauce. -
Will I Lose All My Weight After My Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Thomas CPA replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sleeve by itself should cause you to loose 50% of excess weight. Assuming the 155 is ideal then the total from 289 is 134 so the sleeve, in the course of a year, should get you down to 222. The rest, other 50% is normal diet and exercise. You will get there. I agree slower is better, to much to fast causes weakness and tears away at Protein and muscle. Mix things up, have a day of no worry splurge then go on a no/low fat low calorie eating string. This helps keep metabolism going and avoiding "starvation mode" stalls. Add some exercise, or different, exercises into mix. If you normally just walk or run, then add in resistance training. If you do resistance change up the types of exercises. This will not only help with metabolism memory but muscle memory problems. -
depending on where located the problem is more that they will look distorted as skin sags.

Starvation Mode--myth Or Reality?
Thomas CPA replied to 300PoundsDown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
should at least be 800 to 900. i am now at 1,200 to 1,500 to maintain from losing more weight and needed for stamina at gym. To few calories was killing me when working out so dietician upped my intake. At 5 months only 10-15 pounds from goal and losing about 1.5 pounds per week though with holidays it is slowing down with wife baking. -
Hair Loss After Vsg
Thomas CPA replied to dominique's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
typical usually from 4 to 6 months. I get plenty of protein so that is not really the problem. Try some biotin and a laser comb to get right type of light. Try not to over brush or scrub when shampooing. -

Post-gastric Sleeve Surgery: Any Ideas For Crunchy Snacks To Munch On?
Thomas CPA replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
depends how far out. I liked some tortilla chips. Stay clear of seeds, nuts and chips for 6 weeks to allow internal stapling to heal inside stomach. at about 4 weeks I also liked nuts and also Protein bars at middle meals ( I prefer power crunch). Don't be afraid of carbs, I still have half a baked potato and other carbs, in fact one quarter of your plate should be carbs. I still lost 35 pounds in first 4 weeks and 45 pounds at 8 weeks and now only 10 - 15 pounds from goal at 5 months and Lord knows I still eat my carbs. But I also exercise and need carbs to prevent burning protein and give stamina. -
What's Up With Caffeine Stretching The Gastric Sleeve?
Thomas CPA replied to italianlady13's topic in Food and Nutrition
caffeine fine in moderation. And no, you will not stretch out your sleeve, you may feel bloated but likely you will feel it back up into throat before you stomach could move out and it will rebound if you do overeat. -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery Diet
Thomas CPA replied to Paola's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
after surgery about 900 calories later up to 1,200 for regaining stamina (at least for me heading back to gym as well as slowing weight loss - in month 5 I am near goal) Prior around 800 to 900 to reduce fatty tissue. Get in your Protein 60 to 70 grams as sleeve not as bad as bypass. Try for 64 ounces Water keep skin soft. -
Preparing For Gastric Sleeve
Thomas CPA replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't overbuy. You will go through clothes a lot so only buy as you go down in size unless you want to buy things that may be to big by the time you wear them. I was sleeved Aug 4 bought a BOGO suits at Men's Wearhouse - one tailored, one not. The tailored one had to be retailored 3 weeks later, I waited for 2.5 months, still waiting to get other suit tailored once I lose last 15 pounds. Don't overbuy food or premake a lot of soups. At three weeks I was ahead of curve and on solid foods, good bye pureed. Just get enough for a week. I was in Thursday, out Sunday, Driving Monday. Relax, work on reducing liver fat for easier surgery. Get used to drinking Water slowly, you will get back to normal gulps at a time but it will take a month or so. Take your daily Vitamins if not already on them. Get your exercise in, makes it easier at three week mark to start up again. aerobics and resistance training. build muscle fills in gaps around arms. Try not to binge over holidays, some people put on weight before surgery when you should be losing. Though having a last night of food and drink will not hurt you. If you smoke, stop If you drink more than social stop or lower amount, you won't/shouldn't drink for at least 4 to 6 weeks post op. Good luck on your surgery. -
Dietician Appointment
Thomas CPA replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dietician went over all the Vitamins I was taking (had to bring in all the bottles for him to get information), discussed what I should get in for each meal, number of meals and caloric intake considering my exercise routine. Basically just a preop tuneup of what you should be doing and eating. -
August 2011 Gastric Sleevers!
Thomas CPA replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your doing good. Sleeved August 4, dropped 34 pounds in first month, now stable at loss of 45 and my sleeve is probably done. I was 235 at surgery, ideal is 150 and sleeve should cause me to lose 40-45 of the 85 pounds. Remember the sleeve is only likely to cause you to lose 50% of excess weight. 40 pounds is good and you still have 7 months to lose the other 30 or so to get to your 50% mark assuming the 105 gets you to ideal weight. -
What's Your Favorite Shapewear Brand?
Thomas CPA replied to mommyofLDS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Under Armour has good compression selection for women and men -
First part probably yes, you will also feel it when driving long distance if you feel your tale bone. Second, how long out? First two weeks very little movement then finally with meat back into mix it helped. My doctor's advice - add fiber and meat to get more solid movements. To much liquid, get your 64 ounces in will just keep things wet.

How Long To Wait To Play Racquetball After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
Thomas CPA replied to MikeC's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I started up at week three - It may take a couple of weeks to rebuild stamina depending on amount of weight lost. I dropped around 30 pounds in 4 weeks postop and it took me two weeks at gym to get back to a regular 1 hour workout and four weeks to get some of the strength I loss back. I play tennis, used to play racquetball in college, so it took a little while to get through an entire match. But, start back up and build up the stamina. I had to boost caloric intake from 900 to 1,200 to 1,300 to offset the workout and still lost weight. -

Looking good, a real head turner -
Go to someplace like Zales and they can tell you what can be done. Two options if you can't resize - turn it into a pendant for a necklace or have the ring remade from scratch. I have a couple of rings I can't do much with unless I want the side images destroyed.
