Anyone in or around the LA Area?
NewLife2011 replied to Pinkbetty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I live in Woodland Hills. We should hook up when I get back from my surgery. Where do you live? -
I lost a friend of 20 years due to her jealousy at my weight loss. It was a few years ago, and I had dropped a bunch of weight using Phentermine and exercising and she hated all the attention I was suddenly getting from men. One evening we were out with some guys and she just attacked me out of the blue, saying "just because she lost 70 lbs, she thinks she's all that". I was totally humiliated, these guys had not known me when I was fat and it wasn't something I walked around telling people. The next day she apologized, blaming it on the fact that she'd had too much to drink, but it wasn't long after that that our friendship fianlly died. It was clear to me that she was very resentful of me and it was only when she was intoxicated that she had the courage to say what was really on her mind. That was a very painful experience for me. I still miss her but know that I am better off not having someone that nasty in my life. The good thing is that our friendship had ended before I put all the weight back on, so she can't gloat about it.

How long of a wait for Dr. Aceves?
NewLife2011 replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
It happened within a week for me. I canceled my surgery that had been scheduled in the USA on Monday this week and switched to Dr A with surgery scheduled for this Saturday. I am so excited I can hardly stand it! Good luck and let us know what you decide! -
Great to hear you are doing well! Keep it up!

Bariatric Advantage and Opti Fast
NewLife2011 replied to etlopie's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Buy it where you get the best deal, never mind the doctor getting upset! I bought the BariEssentials Vanilla and Orange flavor and really don't like them too much because they have artificial sweeteners which I cannot stand. If you blend them with a banana and milk they taste better though. I'm going to try the Unjury products, they are apparently very popular and a lot of people use them.. -
Great topic - I've been wondering about this too. I will be visiting family and friends in Australia in December and haven't told anyone about the surgery. It will be obvious I'm not eating a lot but it sounds like it shouldn't be super-noticeable...

Good luck! You're going to do great!! -
Call your insurance compnay and ask if they cover WLS. If they do, ask them what the requirements are - BMI, co-morbidities, etc. Once you have that info ask them for a bariatric suregeon on their preferred provider list and set up an appointment. They might tell you tour PCP needs to refer you, if that is the case set up an appointment with your doc and ask them for the referral. Good luck. And if you get turned down for the surgery, search the web for info and tips on ways to get it appealed, a lot of people are successful if they battle the insurance company long enough. Alternatively, you can do what i did and save the money to get it done in Mexico instead! Good luck!

Pain and soreness below large incision
NewLife2011 replied to lynn225's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If you're worried about pain and especially if you have swelling please contact your doctor immediately! Rather overreact than underreact - if there is nothing wrong, great, at least you have peace of mind. If there is something wrong (God forbid) the sooner you get it taken care of the better! Good luck and let us know how things go... -

Switching to Dr Aceves - Help!
NewLife2011 replied to NewLife2011's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Well, it's done. I have canceled my surgery in Dallas, paid my deposit with Dr A and all scheduled for pre-op Friday 8/19 and surgery 8/20. Eeek!!! Yaay!!! His office have been fabulous, very patient in answering my questions, and Nina did tell me about the nomination/selection for top 25 bariatric doctors in the world. Apparently there were only 3 from the USA - and these are voted on by other bariatric doctors so that's quite impressive. Also, a USA doctor is flying in on Friday for surgery with Dr A - right there that speaks volumes. Thanks so much to all of you for your support and encouragement, you're the BEST!!! :cheer2: I. Am. So. EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!! -
Sleeve Dates and Surgeons!
NewLife2011 replied to Fendo's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I have just switched surgery from a doctor in Dallas to Dr Aceves in Mexico. Surgery is now scheduled for Saturday - very nervous and excited all at once! -
There is a risk of complications with any surgery, but there are health risks associated with being overweight/obese also.

I'm going to be celebrating my 50th in December - very excited as I'll be with family in Australia! And by then I'll even be comfortable in the airplane seats, yee-hah!! Foxbins, I also have hypothyroidism, take Synthroid which keeps it under control. As for menopause, I was peri-menopausal 3 years ago but also had endometrial ablation and haven't had a period since so don't know for sure when I'll actually be done with menopause. Yay, to no periods though, that was a huge relief!
