    How Are The Spitfires Doing?

Something about September.. I too hit the stall early on...but today saw a one pound loss..hoping it's not a fluke I'm crossing my fingers for us all!
  2. I agree mnbsleeve. I juiced during the liquid phase but used a cheese cloth and a strainer to make sure there was no sediment or fibrous materials. I also cleared it with my doctor first.

    quitting smoking after vsg

So happy to hear that! Congratulations! I stopped smoking 6 years ago when too many people I knew died from smoking related diseases. Even to this day I might have a craving every once in awhile for a cigarette. That's how powerful the addiction can be! but it truly is not worth it. We owe it to ourselves and to those who love us to not hurt ourselves..be it with food or with smoking. Maybe try to figure out healthy snacks that satisfy certain cravings but fit into your eating plan. Good luck. It really does suck the first couple of weeks and gets better day by day..kind of like getting this surgery..
  4. I have juiced during liquids and have tolerated it great. I add flavorless protein and it is a nice, refreshing change from shakes and smoothies. My sleeve is less than a month old so I haven't gotten too adventurous with the veggies yet. I think dark greens might be a bit too much right now so I stick with cucumbers, squash, celery, carrots, beets, apples, mangoes, pears, bell peppers and sometimes will add a splash of spinach or kale. It is so nice to taste fresh produce in my drinks instead of powders and milk! I've had my share of really yucky tasting juices but experimenting is part of the fun and most of the time you get some great tasting juices.
  5. I think a big part of the dietary requirements doctor's provide is for you to grow accustomed to the quantity and the texture of the food our new stomachs need... so in the beginning we have pure liquids to allow our stomachs to heal and become less swollen. This stage also give us an idea of how our stomachs feel and how full they become. The mushy stage shows us the texture of how food should be prior to swallowing it and also helps us understand how much is too much per bite and per meal. Once you have mushy food down then you move on to solid foods but now we've been accustomed to the mushy texture and quantities so we naturally chew to mushy texture (or force ourselves to do so) and are more in tune with how much we are consuming per bite and per meal. I don't think the diet progression is completely based on damaging or not damaging our new stomachs as it is on creating new eating habits which is why there is probably such a large disparity from doctor to doctor. If there was any real scientific evidence regarding mushy foods or solid foods at 2 weeks out vs 6 weeks out then I think there would be more consistency between recommendations.
  6. Same here Shalon! I'm 3 weeks post op and lost 10 pounds and have been stalled for about 2 weeks going on 3 27 pounds is great! I walk every day and get in my proteins and most of my liquids...everyone's body is different.

    Lindora for protein

One of the many diets I tried was Lindora. Although successful the results were not long term. However, the food products they sell are pretty tasty and full of protein and usually a good dose of fiber included. Maybe a little on the pricey side but worth a try for those looking for alternatives and on the go type foods!
  8. Bettyboop..i was sleeved by Dr. Mun and he is awesome and definitely one of the best in the country. No issues whatsoever just make sure you listen and follow his directions. He knows what he is talking about. good luck!
  9. I like Isopure flavorless or flavored because it dissolves easily...

    I'm a vegetarian: pre-op & post-op HELP!?

I'm a pescetarian so the only meat I eat is fish. In the liquid stage I used my juicer to make veggie and fruit juices with flavorless protein. I use Isopure because it dissolves so easily. Also made my own protein shakes with almond milk and fruits. I'm in the mushy stage and found some high protein tofu at Trader Joe's..14 g per 3 oz. Polenta is a good mushy, hummus, egg salad, cooked spinach..once you get to mushy choices are endless. Clear liquid is limited no matter what. I was only on clears in the hospital and drank broth, mint tea, and water only...hopefully this clear stage passes fast for you!
  11. Isopure flavorless with some frozen fruits and yogurt and skim milk or almond milk works well. Haven't tried Unjury yet but I'm sure it works just fine. I never really liked the flavored protein drinks anyway. Also, watch out for meal replacement shakes or powders since they seem to fill way faster and are much thicker. I also juice veggies and fruits and add flavorless protein for a very refreshing protein juice...it's a welcome change from the milky drinks and full of nutrients.
  12. prayers for both of you...hope she feels better soon.
  13. it is amazing how we all heal so differently! I am 11 days out and yesterday was my first mushie day..woohoo. I was able to eat 2 oz of refried beans and later on 4 oz of salmon with hummus puree...i eat suuuper slow and take tiny tiny bites though and have had no problems so far. my doctor said to eat as much and as often as I can tolerate it and let my body tell me when it is too much or when it is satisfied. Try eating really slow and make sure there are no chunks in your food and take small baby bites. good luck
  14. try calorieking.com they show nutrition content by slice by gram and by ounce

    Aerobics instructor comment...

If no one knows about you then I would guess she meant that she worked out and ate right instead of starving herself or using diet pills like so many women I know! I agree there is a lot of stigma associated with surgery but as you know this is really not the "easy" way...there are no easy ways!
