Confessions of a Shopaholic
LVbigmom replied to FishingNurse's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have a ton of clothes in many sizes too. I think we are scared to get rid of them b/c in the past we have always put weight back on. I will get rid of the big sizes that no longer fit as I lose weight. Hopefully, the sleeve will help me to keep it off. -
9 months post op with 220lbs gone
LVbigmom replied to Paul11011's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations to you. One question I have is: Did you ever get stuck in a stall? and what did you do to pull out of it and start losing again? Thanks -
Need to vent - lack of weight loss
LVbigmom replied to Shalon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It can be frustrating, that I know -
Everyone loses differently, according to BMI, activity, etc.

I started out at 370lbs on preop diet on July 26 of this year, Had surgery on Aug 23. I now weigh 312/313lbs. i am 5'10". The weight is slower in coming off now but I am still losing, and have some stalls sometimes. Very glad I had the sleeve done, it was a lifesaver.

I like the deli meats better than regular meats. They goes down easier and settle in my stomach better. With regular meats, they can hurt going down and can feel like they are stuck. I still feel full with about 2 slices of the deli meats and it is low fat too.

People Who Say "just Pretend You Had The Gastric Sleeve Surgery And You'll Lose Weight"
LVbigmom replied to AnneAC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
These well meaning people obviously don't have an obesity issue that we have. One of the best things about the surgery is that not only do you lose weight but it helps you keep it off. While some do gain back weight, I don't believe it would be as much as if they didn't have the sleeve. I know I have done liquid diets in the past that were similiar to the preop diet. I lost weight but it came back with a vengence. This time after the liquid diet, there was the sleeve surgery to keep me going. I have also had people think that I did not need the surgery to lose, but I think I know myself better than they know me. Glad I had the surgery.Good luck w/ your upcoming surgery. -
Did you attend an informational seminar?
LVbigmom replied to kemo46's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kemo46, I had my surgery w/ Dr. Almanza also. I did not attend any seminars either. I did a lot of research through the internet. I feel I was knowledgeable when I made my surgery decision. I would have liked to have attended a seminar if there would have been one available to attend. I want to know as much as I could/can about my gastric sleeve surgery. -
I am kind of like that. I ordered complete Chinese Egg Foo Yung and Eggroll when I went out to lunch w/ the family. My husband said not to do it and just have a couple of bites off his plate. I ate about 4 bites of meal and husband took it home for his next meal and eggroll went to son. I think that I can eat as I used to, but of course I can't. Glad that I had the sleeve to keep me in check.

To tell or not to tell...
LVbigmom replied to peacequeen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love it when people feel that weight loss surgery is an easy way out for an obese person. Starts with the preop diet of protein drinks, etc. Then the surgery where 80% or so of stomach is removed, then the recovery, and then more liquid diet, the pureed, mushie, soft, etc diet. I think some people do not think that we have to watch what we eat. The decision to have surgery is a life long commitment. This is no easy way out, but I am glad that I chose this route. Without it, I probably wouldn't have lived as long as I would like to. At least not very healthy. -
Is it really a stall?
LVbigmom replied to Was a humpty dumpty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks alot for this post. I seem to be stuck in a stall. Will use these tips. -
You can take the needed supplies for your surgery. Just let security know about it. Also, your Dr. can write a letter to the airlines to let them know that the supplies are necessary for your health. I flew from San Diego to Buffalo NY 4 days after surgery and had no problems. Just try to get an aisle seat if possible. Good Luck on your surgery and traveling. Next week you will be all done and back in your own home!!!

August 2011 sleevers get in here!!!!!!
LVbigmom replied to blackmikeg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved on Aug. 23rd. Including pre op diet, I have lost about 49lbs since end of July. I have the gurgles, but I think part of it is eating to fast. Old habits die hard. I would like to be down another 21 lbs by Halloween. Actually, the whole life-style eating change hasn't been that bad. -
List of things I am sick of because of my weight.
LVbigmom replied to Ready2BDone's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These posts are great and oh so true. I feel the same way about those flimsy white plastic lawn chairs, lol Being obese becomes a way of life, you start to automatically accept and know the things that you can't do. Thanks to the sleeve we know longer have to accept being a second class citizen. -
OK Mid-August sleevers, what are ya'll eating now???
LVbigmom replied to blackmikeg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Aug 23rd. I have a protein shake for Breakfast. Cottage cheese for lunch, and either soup or mashed potatoes w/ a little cheese for supper. Even though I think I am taking a small portion, sometimes I take too much. I end up putting some back or giving it to the dog. A few bites and I am full. Lots of low cal liquids and water throughout the day. -
Enjoyed your Blog. I was there on Aug 23. Everything is pretty much like you wrote. I was there before the robbery business. It was an interesting experience that I won't soon forget. I made the trip on my own. Hope you have a quick recovery.

LVbigmom replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on aug 23, 2011. I know exactly the pain you are talking about. It is like you know it will come and then you wait for it to get over with. It seems to be a little better these last few days. -

I live in a small town in New York state. Needless to say when people learned that I was having Surgery in Mexico they could not believe it. Alot of people asked why Mexico? Well, I have no health insurance, and even if I did they wouldn't cover the surgery. I called Bariatric Surgeons and they wanted $24,500 for the procedure plus many other extra costs. I could not afford that. I found Mexican surgeons on the internet, I am getting surgery, airfare, hotel, etc for about $5,500. If the U.S. was more affordable and easier to work with I would have had my surgery here. It's almost like this healthcare system here in the U.S. forces people to go elsewhere. People have asked how do I know if Dr. has a license, what about infection, etc? well, these things happen in the U.S. too.

I see you will be going to Mexico for your surgery too. I will leave next Monday for mine. Getting excited, can't wait to get done and start the road to slimness.

No support from boyfriend and family
LVbigmom replied to bikerchick519's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Glad to hear that other people meet with opposition as I have when I tell them of my plans to get sleeved in Mexico of all places!!! People do not understand that it is very difficult to lose the amount of weight that we need to lose and then keep it off. Alot of people talk about what the complications could be for me, but what about the complications if I don't have the surgery, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. I worked in a nsg home and we have had quite a few people in the 400-500lb range come in lately. They are fairly young and the reason they are there is due to complications of their obesity. This has helped me make my decision to get sleeved. It seems that loved ones act like they want you to lose weight and be healthy, but when you try to they are not really that supportive. Good luck and best wishes to all my fellow sleevers out there.
