Cesarean Vs Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
Mabalb replied to BABEwiththePOWER's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I had my sleeve in Sept. I have had 2 csections and they were a longer recovery than the sleeve. I will say that I happen to be one of those people with a very high pain tolerance. With my first section I never took ANY pain meds, only Ibuprofen. My second was a little more difficult because I had some internal scarring that my dr had to repair. I will admit to taking meds that go round. As for the sleeve, I only had oral pain meds in the hosp for 1 night then OTC after that. I did have an onQ pump but it came out that afternoon because it was just leaking and not doing any good anyway. I was able to walk, roll around in bed and was sleeping on my stomach the second night. As for the incisions themselves, I had 3 (one in my belly button and then one one each side) steri strips over two of them and the nurse took them off 5 days after surgery and they were fine. They closed up nicely and never itched or bothered me. Hope this helps! Good luck! -
I have UHC and had no probes getting covered. My BMI was 41 (5'4" 236lbs) with no comorbidities. I was reqd to show a 5 yr history of elevated weight and previous attempted weight loss. I sent the weight history, letter from my personal trainer that I saw 2x wk for a year. I heard back within a wk from the dr th my ins covers the procedures and then got my approval letter about 2 wks later. I did meet with 3 surgeons and it just happened the one that I chose was the one my ins covered. I did have to use a diff hospital (further away) than I would have chosen but it was perfectly fine. You should be fine...hope this helps!

One year through the trials of hell
Mabalb replied to DougNichols's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Completely unrelated to anything wls...I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post. You have the gift of story telling (even though it is your true story). I loved the rhythm and cadence as you brought the reader through your experiences. Thank you for sharing and may you be blessed with continued good health and weight loss. -
I also bought the berry Bariatric Advantage brand and hated them! I am NOT a picky person and have had zero issues with nausea until those! I asked the nut and she put me on Flintstones Complete. No more problems:)

What is the psych eval like?
Mabalb replied to LoserMama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was such a joke! It was a scan tron (fill in the bubble) paper test that I took home to fill out. Thankfully I consider myself emotionally stable but I don't think they should do those because I'm sure there are some who should have a true clinical evaluation. -
Just curious how other Sept 22nd sleevers are doing?

Hello all! I am freshly sleeved as of Thurs am! I knew I would face some problems with gas and/or acid but really!!! I feel blah/slightly flushed but reading 98-99 temps. I stayed in the hospital an extra day bc I had so much acid I couldn't get all my liquids in. Came home this am and still struggling! Called the Dr and he put me on Prilosec twice am and twice pm with tums throughout the day. I did not anticipate it being this persistent especially because I've never experienced it before! Will someone PLEASE tell me when I will get better-I really need to look forward to that! Btw-yes I am doing lots walking! Thanks!

Thank you both for your responses. I took the prilosec and tums. I am doing a little better at getting the fluids in now but am still flush and 99 degrees. My discharge papers said to call if it is over 101. Anybody else have fever?

Well, I've done it now! I am officially scheduled for my surgery on Sept 22nd! I began with my first appointment mid-May and am already scheduled! (I could have done it a week sooner but had to push it back because my little one will be having her birthday party that weekend) I am very excited and absolutely terrified! I have been reading like crazy trying to prepare myself for what is to come but still have some concerns. I am of course most concerned about getting back from surgery and to my family healthier than I went in! Also, and I know this sounds ridiculous, I'm kind of sad about food already. I live in south Louisiana and food and football are really big deals, particularly together! I know that is what got me here and am ready to move on but just cannot fathom not wanting all my favs again or having get togethers without all the yummies synonymous of the south! Anyway- excuse the ramblings- just wanted to share my excitement and fear with people I know understand (even though I don't know you...yet!). Thanks!
