For future reference, I run a board on TCOYF.com and I find that when individuals are left to update the info, it gets kinda screwy like it did here. You may find it easier to just put the days on the original post and have everyone tell YOU what day there surgery is. That way it takes you seconds to update the original post as opposed to an hour or more to repair errors, and you still end up with a working, accurate list of who's sleeve is when. HTH

Dr Aceves credentials
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Is it ok if I copy with (minus link) to my FB page? I created a page for those in my life who know about my surgery to that they can stay updated. I want to put info about Dr Aceves on my page and this is very thorough and is kinda like one stop shopping for info of Dr. A. I wish to not include the link because although they may know about my surgery I do not with for them to know I am on this board. Is that ok? Oh and if so, is this quoted from Nina? I want to give credit to whoever wrote it all out.And when did you receive this? I noticed this was posted last year and his stats will be very different by this point so I want to put a date of it so that I can point out that his stats are diff today than when this was written. -
Low carb/no carb alternative to fav foods?
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Food and Nutrition
Well yeah, a healthy diet all around is good but I don't want them to feel deprived of the foods they love just cause mommy and wifey can't control her weight. DH and my oldest are rail thin, they could stand to gain a few. My youngest I may have more of an issue with weight wise because he has been an eater since day 1 (the first 6 weeks of his life I sat in a chair nursing my non-stop) and he is built like I am. I worry he will take after me in all the worst ways so his diet I watch much closer, but even him until his weight IS going to be a problem for him I am not going to treat him like he needs to be on a diet and can't have the foods he loves. I feel like anything is ok in moderation, even less healthy stuff (notice I said LESS healthy, not unhealthy ). -

I agree, to a point. Even as a range its inaccurate. It fails to account for frame size and muscle mass.I have a large build. I often joke that I am built like a man. Most men can't get there fingers all the way around my wrist lol and I had many many x-rays and its all all bone...I was surprised At how little fat/bone I have in my wrist given its size. According to my BMI I am supposed to be 114-150 lbs, but anything lower than 150 and I would be a skeleton with skin. My doc said for me to aim for 150-160 lbs. *I* am aiming for 180. I was a very healthy size at that weight. Also, If I intend to be a very FIT woman I will also have alot of muscle mass, which weighs more than fat so I think 180 would be about right for me. Going by my BMI alone I would be at least 30 pounds overweight at 180 and that's just not correct for me and my body type.

Already have a pannus, am I doomed to need a tummy tuck?
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I already know my boobs will deflate. If I lose even 20 pounds my bras don't fit the same as the cup feels bigger so I know my boobs will probably be the first to go. I am a D now and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if I deflate to an A cup since I take after my dad's side of the family and they all have big hips and micro boobs lol...until they gain weight that is then like mine is like putting air in a balloon. I LMAO @ the "34 extra long" comment. I always picture an older cartoon that went around the net with and old lady (clothed but you could still see the movement) swinging he boobs around as they hang down to her knees singing "Do your boobs hang low? Do they wobble to and fro..." lol. My arm is as big around as some ppls legs (admittedly very thin legs, but still). I hope mine snap back too!! -

Drain removal and first weigh in...
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to Marleykay87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its sort of a extra measure. Not all docs do it. It is basically a tube that collects all the fluids the body may form in reaction to the surgery (small amounts of blood for example). The body will naturally absorb this if it is not removed, so don't be concerned. I *think* it may also be a way to alert docs and patients of a leak as well (I think this because only a certain amount of fluid is normal) but I am not sure on that part. Some don't get a drain at all, some only use one for a day or two and some use it longer. Its more about the doctor and his/her preferences than anything. -
Doctor never heard of the Sleeve
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to Fusilli66's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Let me guess, your first PCP was about as heavy as a pretzel? I can't stand when ppl seem to think they know everything there is to know about being overweight! If you tell those type of ppl you have a medical reason for having such a hard time losing it it gets even better! I have a metabolic syndrome. Emotional eating helped me get where I am today but the metabolic syndrome has made it beyond easy to gain weight and insanely hard to lose it. Ppl are so ignorant I swear. It like they think we CHOSE to live like this. I am glad you switched PCPs NOBODY deserves to be downplayed like that, and from a doctor no less?? Was she out clubbing the day they taught bedside manner and compassion? As you can tell I pretty much don't get along with docs. Most are in it for them $ and not the patient and it shouldn't be like that. -

VSG4aHealthierMe replied to Fusilli66's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think its a mix of the fact that its a newer procedure AND not many docs do it in the US compared to other forms of WLS. I am talking to my PCP on Monday. I may print some stuff out for my PCP as well. -

Sure there is a way.... its called anorexia I am with you, at a certain point you know losing much more would be unhealthy. According to BMI I should be 114 - 150 lbs but even my doc knows that would be an unhealthy weight for me and told me to shoot for 140 - 160 lbs. Honestly, judging by your pic you already look great, even w/o losing the extra 15 you want to! -

VSG4aHealthierMe replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
With my bone structure I know that the best I can hope for is to be "overweight" lol. BMI is a good gauge when you really ARE heavy/obese but once you get fit they are a joke lol. Glad to see you are having some success in your challenge! -
nude/semi-nude pics??

VSG4aHealthierMe replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was thinking the same as you all, that it was a privacy violation, my mind took it a step further as well. Forced nude/semi-nude pics would be assault, at least in the US.... but Mexico has different views and laws so I wasn't sure if this really happened or not. Thanks for the replies! -
Already have a pannus, am I doomed to need a tummy tuck?
VSG4aHealthierMe replied to VSG4aHealthierMe's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Yeah, I am hoping my age will be my saving grace as well, but I am not holding my breath. I just hope I only need at most a couple surgeries- like my tummy maybe and maybe if I end up with bat wings 'cuz those are pretty darn hard to get rid of too. I REALLY don't want to have to do a full body lift (or even half), but a couple nips and tucks I can live with. I *may* also do a breast lift or augmentation or something, but that would more of a treat for all my hard work They aren't necessary but it would be a nice reward to re-inflate my deflated breast when this is all done. I am only going to do the quality of life procedures at first though, and the fewer the better! -

Phew! Thank you! I panicked when I read that. I can understand why she doesn't name names- liability, slander, etc. But on the particular note it sure would have been nice to have a list lol. -

So did yours like "deflate" to be just baggy skin? Or is it still there in all its obtrusive glory? TBH I am gonna be extra ticked if I lose all the weight and that stupid thing is STILL getting in the way like it is now, and if that's the case I am gonna start saving the day we get back from my sleeve so that hopefully I can get rid of it as soon as my weight stabilizes. -
What do you use to prove to your insurance you had surgery?
