  1. I was sleeved at age 63 back in April. I occasionally look at this forum to see what others my age are experiencing, but it seems that there is no action at all here. Obviously, we 60's are in a vast minority when it comes to WLS. I read other posts, and think that it would be nice to speak to others who have concerns like me. One of them is the exercise thing. My knees and hips are bad, and so it's difficult to get the exercise in. If anyone out there is having the same concerns, let me know. Other than that, the surgery went quite easily for me. I'm hoping to get off more meds, but I have to be patient. Anyway, if any 60's are reading this, hope that you are having a good experience as I am.

when do sizes go down quicker?

I've lost nearly 40lbs. and I've only gone down 1 size. I feel better in my clothes, but still only 1 size. I have alot more weight to go, so I figure it will change sooner or later, and right now I don't have to spend all of my money on new clothes that won't fit me in a few months.

    struggling

I'm having more trouble getting all the water down as well. I didn't in the beginning, but now after 3 mos. I find that it is becomming more difficult to keep sipping water all day. There are places you go and things that you do, where water gets in the way. I end up waiting, and then I try to drink 64 ounces, and I feel waterlogged. I just do the best that I can. As far as the protein drinks, I mix chocolate or vanilla Unjury with a cup of coffee.(decaf) and it tastes like a mocha or vanilla cappucino. It goes down very easily. I have a problem getting the shakes down otherwise.
  4. Happy Birthday! I'm 3 1/2 mos. out, and I can eat just about anything. I can't eat alot of it, but I feel that as long as I can taste it, I don't mind so much. If i order dinner, I take a taste of an appetizer, or i just pass. I don't mind taking home leftovers, because I enjoy them the next day. I had to come to the realization that I didn't need to eat a great amount of something to enjoy it. Once I wrapped my mind around that concept, I could enjoy my experience without feeling deprived. yes, it's different, thank goodness, because I still have lots of weight to lose. I think of the sleeve as my best friend that is trying to keep me healthy. I know that sounds corny, but it gets me through the day. Hope this helps.

Slow weight loss is getting me down

Thanks to all of you that took the time to read and answer. This is a journey that is tough to take alone. I feel better hearing from you. It gives me the motivation to keep going. Proud to be on the "losers" team, even if it is at a snails pace.

    anxiety

Hi, I had the band and had it revised to a sleeve 3 mos. ago. It was the best decision I could have made. I was very nervous. The band did not work for me. I had it pumped with Fluid, and then I couldn't eat anything, and I would vomit. I then would have to get fluid taken out, and then I would gain weight. Every time I went to get an adjustment, it cost $300. I was so happy to get it out. Now, I have no more pain when I eat, and I don't vomit any longer. It has been 3 mos. since the sleeve, and I have lost 38 lbs. I never lost that much with the band. Believe me, everyone is nervous. I was doubly nervous because I had to have the band removed, and then be sleeved at the same time. It was no cop out. You are making a decision to have a different relationship with food for the rest of your life. It is not a decision made lightly. It was the right decision for me. I was a constant "grazer" with the band, and was always looking for something to nibble on. With this tool, the hunger is cut dramatically, and therefore, the grazing has stopped. Hope this helps you.
  7. I sure do miss my ibruprofen! I have arthritis in my knees, and my doctor told me no advil. Well, I've tried tylenol, but, that doesn't do the job. Does anyone know of any other pain relief? I may have to take some Advil, if the pain doesn't subside. Why can't we take ibruprofen?

    Miss my Ibruprofen!!

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I will speak to my surgeon, and if I do take ibruprofen, i will make sure there is something in my stomach.

I didn't need any pain meds after day 3, and I never had to take more than 1. Hope this helps.

    What is satisfied?

It's not the "old" type of satisfied. I know that I've eaten enough, because I get a gurgling sensation and I hiccup. The hiccup tells me that one more bite will mean I will be uncomfortable. So, it's not the same feeling I had pre surgery, and I am still learning the signs.

    I don't have much of a story

Glad to be rid of the band and glad to have the sleeve!
  12. Hi, Went out and had a fish sandwich minus the bread, at Friendly's. Felt ok afterwards, but had to have a few spoonfuls of ice cream at the end. Well, I felt like I was going to burst, and the next morning, my stomach is still blah. Could it be something like the dumping syndrome, or is my stomach just rebelling?
