    Went Back To Work And...

Debby, You and your cheese cake are girls right after my own heart!! I snuck a finger of frosting today!! Of course now I'm regretting it!!! As far as the walking...I went walking the night of surg. The nurse helped me walk up and down the corridor at the hospital and then my friend took me shopping after we left to go home. I had no choice but to buck it up and get moving!! haha I did not take any time off work but just move a little slow this week. I am always off on Fridays so I'll be sleeping in tomorrow. YIPPEEE for extra sleep!!!

    Waiting

GNC has Isopure drinks, they have 40 grams of protiene in a 20 oz bottle and they are not real hard to choke down either.....Teh raspberry one is my favorite.. As far as hair loss....All I know is I ALWAYS loose hair after anestesia!! No Fair!! I do not know how much protiene we need for that but Madam is right we bandsters are supposed to have 60 grams per day for women, and 80 for men

    Went Back To Work And...

Porc, I can't believe how little you can get down!!! My Surg gave me a print out of specific instructions on how and when to "eat" He said every hour I was to take 2 oz of protiene except during the "meal" hour. also should be sippin g Water all day to prevent dehydration. Do not dring ANYTHING for 1 hourbefore your "meal" and you willbe able to get more down. As for the Isopure...I dropped a bundle on that the day I got out of the hospital. I like the raspberry one (blue), and the grape is ok too, but the punch one....no thanks!!! I also take a liquid Vitamin every day that I also got a GNC - that place is apparently going to be my new best friend--- The Gold card really saved me a lot of $$$ Hang in there, I felt AWFUL yesterday!! NOt fatigued but just emotional and in pain. I haven't taken any pain med since Sunday. ( went back to work on Monday, surg was on Thursday) but today I feel MUCH better.

Aileena, My dr did not have me do liquid at all before my surg!! He even told me to go eat a nice dinner a few nights before the surg. I put myself on liquids for 2 days before just so it would not be such a shock to my teeth..haha

Hi All!! I'm home!! Had my surg on Thursday, out of the hospital on Friday, Went to a friends house Friday night then home today. (my living situation is a little akward-seperated from hubby and we trade off on staying with our kids everyother week, My off week I stay in an appartment...) anyway..... I can't believe how easy this has been!! Like most every one else has said, th port incision is the most uncomfortable. Not actually a lot of pain, liquid tylenol has taken care of it for the most part. I did take some of the lortab in the hospital but only 2 times since comming home. Hey brenda, I do not know of any one who has had staples.....Did your Dr. give you any explination for them??? i have 4 very small incisions and then 1 that is about 2 or 3 inches long ( the port) 1 of them you can hardly even see right now and it is only 3 days post op... Deb, I hope you are doing better. I feel guiilty, I have had 1 bout of neausea that only lasted about 2 min and that was right after surg, most likely from the anestesia... Any way... Good luck to all of my fellow may bandster buddies!!

    May Surgery Dates

Surgery is less than a week away!!! I'm nervous as all get out, not about the surg but about he recovery aftrward..... My dr has not put me on a liquid diet at all!!?? I have my pre op apt with him on Monday, already had all the tests done and allthat stuff......just going over what ever he needs to before the surg??? I bought a new digital camera today. I'll be taking pictures of before the surg, right after the surg and then every week. I'm thinking about wearing the same jeans and shirt for every pic so Ican see the difference in how they fit. Maybe I can even be one of those people who can fit into one pant leg after they loose all their excess weight. Wouldn't that be cool? I already told my daught er to take good care of those new clothes I bought her a few weeks ago because we were going to be sharing clothes this time next year. All she could say was," I don't think so, you are to short to wear any of my pants or dresses." Gee thanks daughter, I love you too... Today is my last post untill after surg. I will not have access to a computer untill then... Everyone keep Porc and I in your prayers Thursday when we get to be on the other side of this band thing...

    UHC has my paperwork!

Barb, The insurance compay itself is not who has the exception on your policy. It would be comming from you employer. When Employers 'purchase' insurance it is kinda like going through a cafeteria line. They say "I have this many dollars to spend per employee, If I get item 1,2,3 and 4 it will be this much $, but if I omit #2, it will only be this much $, so lets omit that and we can afford thi coverage" My suggestion would be to go to the Human Resources department at your employer and speak to the insurance guru and tell them your condition and options for treatment and ask if they can provide a rider for you to be able to have this surg done and it be covered. Good luck and keep us posted on what happens!!

    I Walked!!

terri, That is amazing!!! When is your apt with your neuro guy? I'll bet he falls out of his chair when you walk for him!! That would be something to get on tape so you have his reaction to movitate you later when and if you get discouraged. Let us know how many more you have done....You know the March of dimes is looking for a few good walkers to participate in their walk-a-thon...haha xxoo keep up the amazing progress!!!

Insurance woes and psych eval concerns....

Yeah, My knees and hips will be greatful for the repreve!!! Let me know how the eval goes. I kinda got tickled at the questions they asked, I just wish I could remember them now!!

Insurance woes and psych eval concerns....

Mandy, My Dr recommended I go ahead and have the eval just in case my insurance required it, so I did. I was like you , a little freaked out about the whole deal but after I got there I was quite surprised!!! I took a 5 page "test" that asked me several questions in different ways, asked me things like why did I think it was necessary to have the surg done, asked if I had ever had depression issues and what had I done to over come them. I think basically they just want to make sure you are not an emotional cripple or one of those type of people that just likes to have surg done ( like a lot of people ae with cosmetic/plastic surg) after the "test" I came back and spoke with a councelor ( 2 weeks later) after they had time to evaluate my responses. I think that is another way of weeding out those who are not earnest in really wanting to go through with this. The councellor asked me how I thought the surg would change my life, and asked me if I knew what would happen if I did not do what the Dr. said I needed to do, That kind of stuff. Honestly I think the real purpose is to weed people out who do not follow through with things.afterall you could answer the questions any way you want, truthfully or not, and you are the only one who knows if you answered truthfully. Just a little of my crazy thoughts. haha Hope this helps ease your mind. I also say don't cover up your tatoos if that is who you are, let it show!! Isn't that what this is really about, letting the 'real' you out of that strangers extra large body??

    the band and dentists

Jamie, I would call and ask to talk to my hygenist. Tell her you had surg and ask her if it is ok to have your teeth cleaned this soon after. DO NOT ask the person who answers the phone (that is me at my office) Nothing against the front desk personnell but I'd ask the actual person treating me. Even though I know the answer, I would still go ask the hygenist if a patient called and asked me that question. Good luck at your appointment, I hope you do not have to go back and visit with the Dr after maybe you can be a member of the 'no cavity club' haha

    the band and dentists

I also work in a dental office and the need for pre treatment antibiotic therapy is for recent joint replacements, and heart murmurs. I have never had to treat a patient after band placement but the "newest" trend is to not have ANY dental treatment for 3-6 months after surgery. Hope this helps...
