Questions For All People Wih Complications
Happylife replied to silenceshhh's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, I woke up from surgery not able to drink water and did not eat again for about 4 months! I had a twisted stricture. I am fixed and better now. Happy that I had the surgery. But complications most certainly do happen. Surgens are human. You sign a waiver. And if they happen to you it is 100 percent you. Having said that lucky they are rare. I went to a centre of excellence. They covered all costs of making me better. And the bill was huge. The surgeons were so caring. It is not always the fault of the patient. -
Sleeved And Thrilled!
Happylife replied to BridalMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yaay! Happy for you! I am sooo happy with my sleeve. I love my new thin body. I am sure you will too! Not to much better. -
I wound not go anywhere that would leave me stuck if I had a complication. Although rare, they most certainly do happen. I did have a complication and it was looked after. It took 6 months before I was better! And what I went through would make your toes curl. So, that is just my two cents. Like I said too complications are rare. I just suggest being covered.

Angry, Depressed, Have Leak, Stent And Pick Line!
Happylife replied to jcarelle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so sorry to hear of your complications. I was sleeved August 1oth 2011. And did not eat again until Christmas Eve! Soft mushies. I had a stricture. Kinda same as a leak as far as plan of action goes. I had a stent too. Feeding tubes. Etc etc. It is very difficult when you are going through it for sure. Hang in there. I know it doesn't seem like it now but, you will be better. You will. These things are fixable. Hang in there. -

I Hear Hair Loss Is An Issue At About 4 Months Post Op..
Happylife replied to betterthanbefore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMGoodness... I was so freaked out by thinking my hair was going to fall out. And basically resided myself to that reality before I had the surgery. I am not all that vain. But I have really long hair and have had it all my life long. So, it would have been really weird to loose it. But I worried in vain. Sure, I lost some. But not a lot. Only noticeable to me. I wish I didnt worry so much. Most people only notice themselves. And it grows back. -
Pre-Op Cold Feet - Help! I'm Scared...
Happylife replied to madambones's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I second guessed my decision to have the sleeve too. I backed out once. Cancelled the surgery. Managed to have the surgery done and was the less than 1% with a major complication...lol. I really understand how rare I am. And rare is the right word. I can tell you. This surgery was one of the best decisions that I have ever made for myself. I am so grateful for it. I weigh 138 with a two lb bounce. Thats ok because I am 5''7. And a size 4 lululemon pant. lol. I am really healthy my bloodwork came back excellent last week. I am never ravenously hungry anymore. But can eat pretty much everything just not a massive amount. The funny thing is you dont want to anymore. But I still enjoy food. You know I feel so good about myself. I really wish my happiness for everyone. -
What Is It Like Years From Now?
Happylife replied to betterthanbefore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my sleeve done August 2011. I did have a major complication. I had a stricture. Went through a very tough time... I can tell you though that I am a very rare case. And I sooo glad that I had this surgery done. There is pretty much nothing I cant eat. Just smaller portions. You dont want more. You change. Your full. You dont want more! lol. I just had my complete blood work done. I am lacking in nothing and very healthy. I weigh 138 with a two pound bounce. My goal is 135 but, whatever. Anyways, I feel great! So great! I look great. I am happy now. I lost that same 60lbs so many times over. It was time to get off the crazy train. -
Hi Libbe I am doing really great too! I weigh 143. I am 8lbs away from goal. It seems impossible to get there. I am tall too though. 5'7. So people do think I am thin. I just got my blood work back and everything is perfect! No more high cholesterol. Yaaay. So happy. Even having gone through the ringger with my stricture I am sooo happy that I had this done. I am happy to hear you are doing so welll Libbe

After 5 Months Of Complications My Twisted Stricture Is Fixed! I Feel Sooo Blessed Not To Be Sick Anymore!
Happylife posted a blog entry in Happylife's Blog
WOW!! It has been a looong road! I Was sleeved August 10 and didn't eat again until soft mushies Christmas Eve! I have had feeding tubes, stent operations, 6 dialations and let me tell ya, pnemonia, painful ear infections, thrush and sooo much awfulness. Sliming and foaming and sick. The doctors where sooo kind and willing to try anything to fix me... A twisted stricture doesnt happen all the time. On Dec 8 th they performed a strictureplasy. And I really feel like I have my life back again. I still have a J tube that comes out of my side and it hurts. But they will remove the bolsters soon (holds the intestine up) and then maybe another couple of weeks and the tube will be gone too! I am so happy that I am a regular sleeve patient now and I love my working sleeve, I love eating smaller portions. The doctor didnt charge for countless specialized care either. I had all three of their direct numbers. Did I mention that I am so happy to have a normal sleeve? Lol -
Tummy Tuck...have You Had One?
Happylife replied to SouthernSleever's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a tummy tuck. After my second child. Since then I had another child and the weight gain etc. My tummy always remained flat after. Flat and hard. The only problem is with TT and Lipo is the remove the fat, acess skin from that area. IF you were to gain weight you gain it back in other areas instead like back, legs, arms etc. Probably not a problem for us anymore with the sleeve. But yes. still rockin the TT! Also its a toughie for recovery. Harder than my C sections. But you get through it. And IMO its worth it. -
wow congratulation! You will be so happy with the new you!

Thanks guys. So happy to hear Meemee is Starting to feel better. My Stricture was caused by misinsertation of the bougie ( being pushed in to far) And the tauntness of the stomach being pulled across the bougie before stapleing. It is a complication of the surgery. Complications DO NOT happen often but when they do it is 100% you. My doctors had never seen this before. They are a centre of excellence. I am so grateful I had such careing doctors. And that I didnt end up with a gastric bypass or worse massive medical bills. As I am a Canadian with ironically no medical coverage in the states. I live very close to seattle so I would drive down with my husband for care. Any questions are welcome. Oh, by the way I feel great now with no major issues just reflux that I take omeprizol for. And I am 10 lbs away from goal!

I'm In The Hospital
Happylife replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Peacequeen Just a bump in the road. At least you know what the problem is now and your on your way to being better. I too had complications. Not a leak but a stricture. You will get better. Take one day at a time. I am going to pray for you that you have a quick recovery.
