Happylife replied to coops's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I really want to get to goal. I've had complications so haven't really taken advantage of exercise. But I think in the next couple of weeks I will be tube free! Lol. I have 12lbs left to get to goal of 135. I just steped on the scale and I am down to 147. I have been stuck at 149 for the longest time. Good luck and boxing sounds interesting!! -

Hi all I was sleeved Oct 10/2011. I did my due dillegence and found experienced doctor and caring facility (which paid off in the long run). I woke from surgery not being able to keep Water down. At first it was thought to be swelling. So. I had a endoscope to find a narrowing 3/4 of the way down my sleeve. The opening was about 2mms. From there I had about 4 dilations. Each one lasted about a week. Before I would start to foam and produce slime and just become nautious. Than they put a stent in to open the stricture. But, it migrated and I had to be put under once again and it was removed. I believe just the cost of the littlle metal stent was over a couple of thousand dollars. Also have had countess IVs for Fluid. And tons of different meds for things like pain, thrush, asperation pnuemonia and the likes. Also two ear infections from painful feeding tubes which where taped to my face! It has really brought on a series of situations and memories for me that Will stick with me forever! I just have to shake my head. On the upside the facility has taken great care of me. Free of charge. (I am Canadian with no medical coverage in the States). And it seems I MIGHT be somewhat on the mend. I was schedualed for strictureplasty or if that didnt work as the stricture has a slight twist... A Bypass YIKES! I was just having a feeding tube removed when it appeared I was able to keep down protien shakes on my own. Now it appears that the twisted strictur might have stretched as I am finally able to drink and meet requirement for protien. And now even some soft mushy foods! FINALLY after nine weeks. Not out of the woods yet but after being sick and uncomfortable for two months... Mashed potatoes yummm! Doctors think that I could possibly need another operation down the road in the top of my sleeve gets to stretched out. I hope not. But for now thankfull to be where I am now. I wrote this not to scare anyone. This is is a really rare thing that happened to me. Maybe 1%. But if you are the 1% its 100% for you! Having said that I still think its great it has helped sooo many people and wouldnt advise against it. Only that you go somewhere they will care for you in the very rare instance like me.

Anyone else unable to keep down liquids post op?
Happylife posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry not trying to scare anyone here. I had my surgery August 10. Right after surgery and until now I am unable to keep down liquids. My surgeon told me I was tight . He used a 38 bougie but he sais that It is not only the size of the bougie but also how the skin is wrapped around it. I have never vomited so much in my life . I vomit up slimy bubbly stuff. Also meds . I am however in no pain. I am going to see him and his team every morning for fluids and meds through IV.. they seem to think i should be better soon. As the swelling will come down. Toay is the first day i feel coherent. I have no depression even having gone through this I am happy with my decision. One og the doctors there have had this done. Any three or four of the girls. The staff is really caring and even came in today for only me. They are very experienced with 20 years experience. Can anyone else share experiences? -

Wow! The Grouse Grind eh? Good for you!!!! Way to go!!!!! -
Hi My BMI Is 33. I have tried all diets and always gain it back. If you google weight loss statistics you will see that 95% off all weight loss after following a diet is gained back after 1-5 years. This helped me make my decision. I have better odds with having the surgery than not having it. Heart disease, cancers, diabetes, etc. Good luck with your decision. Read lots! Also obeisety help forum is interesting. Good luck!

Hi There! I just got my surgery date! August 10th
Happylife posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I thought it was time to introduce myself. But, first want to thank everyone for answering my questions and providing much needed info for helping me make my decision to have surgery. I am 42 years old. Like many on here have tried every diet known to mankind. I have lost and gained so many times that I had lost count. At first I looked into the lapband. But didnt like the mirid of problems people had. So thats when I heard about the sleeve. I live in BC Canada. Here there is a very long wait for the surgery so I decided to have the surgery in the State of Washington USA. My doctor is Dr.Landerholm at the Pudget Sound Surgical Centre. I have three children a little lovely girl 3 and two boys 15 and 13. My husand is the only person that knows and he is really supportive. I just think for me it is a personal decision. I look forward to reading you stories and chatting along the way. I have so much gratitude to the people that post here especially the regulars who seem to be constantly paying it foward and helping others. Its funny how it always finds a way of coming back to you! Cheers. August 10th! Goooooo AUGUST ALL STARS!!!! -
Another August 10th here!!! Yaaay

August Sleevers!!!!!!!!!!!
Happylife replied to Kayla's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awaiting a call from my Drs office. She thinks August 10 th will work for my surgery. But has to check with the doctor first. He has to go over the last few tests! I REALLY hope so!!! Because after that he goes away on holidays until mid September!! And my three kids will be keeping overly bizy by then! -
I saw that ad too. It was scary. I think it was meant to be. If you look closer and read between the lines it seems to be pushing the lap band. Also, if you displayed any internal body part the way they did it would look scary. I too am the leary type. I Research til no end. But, the risks are low. Yes, there are risks. I just got a call from my BFF she is havivg kidney troubles due to diebetes. I lost my dear dad to it about four years ago. The risks of just living with obesity are nothing to sneeze at. Especially as we get older. I made my decision. I am not fretting over it anymore.

How many people get sick aver being sleeved? How many loose hair/how much
Happylife posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Do you lose half your hair? Or like see the scalp. Is it true 70% of people lose hair? To the point of people other than yourself notice? My doctor didn't offer this info. But the assistant had very thin hair and she had the sleeve. Also, how much sickness should I expect? My doctor told me not many of his patients do. But on here it seems common. Thanks soo much.
