First of all, I'm afraid that we all reach a level from which we simply cannot budge for a few weeks! It's frustrating, I know (because it's been happening with me) but I don't vary from my routine because I know it's just a matter of time until it kicks in again. How many days a week are you working out? The biggest thing, and I'm not telling you to back off if you're exercising more than five, is that you do NOT want to burn yourself out and end up making mental excuses why you can't work out. Your body does need to rest--by the way, great job on the treadmill mph!! I've been working out since 1983 and I find 3.2 great for me! (And I'm sorry to say, the old knees won't allow me to jog!) Secondly, I didn't read about your Protein intake. Are you getting in enough protein daily--and I know that 1200 calories a day isn't much (especially in comparison to what we USED to eat, but you may want to cut it back by 100-200 calories). I find when I have a whey protein isolate (powder) shake made with Water during the day, it satiates me for so-o-o long. The bottom line is from what you have said, you really are doing great--don't worry, because it HAS to come off. We just get impatient because we aren't losing as fast as we want--but wow! We couldn't lose even a pound before, so we just have to have patience with our band now... :tt2:

All I take is one a day--but don't go by me. The surgeon never stated to only take one a day--it's what I started doing post-op and haven't ever changed.
-
Snogirl, before I responded to you I went to my favorite shopping website, Ebay, to be sure they made chewable iron tablets and found some there (but they DO sound ucky, don't they?!!) You know, I may just switch to Flintstones with Iron--it can't hurt!!
-
Totally, totally I agree with you about the unjury. Didn't care for the chocolate, the chicken Soup left a severe aftertaste, and the unflavored had a smell I couldn't get past! You are right, too-- I actually found an unflavored whey Protein isolate that has absolutely no odor and mixes instantly into foods at BiProUSA.com - Whey protein isolates, hydrolyzed whey Proteins, recipes and more . After the unjury, I felt certain I'd never find an unflavored without an odor and I'm so glad I did. As you say, every person has different tastes and we all just have to keep trying them 'on' until we find the one that's right for us. Thanks again for all the info, Neveragain...

I can taste the Saline after my fill
make33 replied to Tralynn222's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'd definitely mention it to my surgeon with the next fill and see what he thinks. Does he do you fill under fluoro? (Mine doesn't, but I guess some do...):tongue2: -
Right from day one, my surgeon told me to take Flintstones chewables, along with 2 Tums EX (for calcium) daily... :tongue2:

Kat817 had some great suggestions for you and here's what I did in the two weeks I was off work: I found that Tupperware has a "Small Wonders" container (set of 4) that holds exactly 1/2 cup. I went on Ebay and bought three sets and now I LIVE out of them. Cereal in the morning, bring in leftovers to work for lunch, instant protein-puddings. They are just terrific and I know I'm not going to overeat! As I said before, it will take you another five to seven weeks to be really healed (to the point where you could lift weights even)--so take it easy on the new machinery!! :tongue2: -
Ebonie, I buy a "Lo Carb Whey Protein Isolate" from Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, books, DVDs & more in belgian chocolate--only has about 100 calories a serving and about 5 grams of carbs (sorry--tried to get the nutrition from the site but it isn't provided). (And honestly, I LOVE mine just mixed in water--less calories than skim milk!) That site has a ton of flavors (and some even have free shipping!) so check it out! :tongue2:

They make tons of meds in chewables now, and Iron is one of them. But if you take a Flintstones Vitamin every day, they make a Flintstones with iron, too! Although I had acid reflux every day of my life bb (Before Band), I've only had one instance since--and it was a day on which I had a tomato-sauce product for dinner and then some chocolate in the evening (I honestly don't have chocolate very often...honest...). The combination of the two threw my stomach into overdrive! That being said, sounds like yours may be a fill issue--so I'd do just what you plan to do--lay low for a few days on safe liquids and soft food and try again this weekend. Good luck to you! :tongue2:

I actually saw a thread posted here once that was an advertisement for a cell phone!! I 'reported' it as spam (as I'm sure others did) and suddenly it was gone! Guess there's trash everywhere!! :tongue2:

Wow, Neveragain, that is the best explanation I've ever read!! You totally nailed the answers!! Thank you so much for the info...

You know, this period of time pre-op and post-op is so short in comparison to the rest of our lives. Surely you can adhere to the rules for the amount of time we're talking about? There is a reason the surgeon / Bariatric Center puts limitations on what we can have and everyone has already spelled it out for you: to allow time for your band to heal in place. Now I have to warn you that even when the stitches seem healed, there is still a ton of healing going on INSIDE you--so you have to be careful for six to eight weeks... This surgery is serious, so buckle down--it won't be long until you can have solids again. -
I researched whey Protein in the six months leading up to surgery (since my nutritionist "didn't have THAT in college"). Whey protein isolate is the purest form (and thus is more expensive) and it mixes instantly in liquid. Whey protein concentrate, however, uses lactose as a filler (I'm intolerant ) and it must be blended with a blender or it will clump up on you. You can buy Protein Shakes in a can (i.e. Slimfast Lo Carb, Zoic) but I will always say that you get what you pay for--they all taste pretty tinny to me but are great for convenience sake. I've read threads on soy protein here (not sure about casein?) so if no-one responds, you could do a search on the words "soy protein". Best wishes to you... :wink2:

Honestly, Novbeginning, after getting restriction on my third fill I can say that I never had restriction with the first two fills. And man, it's tough when you don't have restriction--I really have to keep my hunger at bay and an awful lot of it is your own personal restraint. When I had restriction for two weeks, I really knew what it was like to be Banded! We just have to hang in there until we finally get a great adjustment...

Kathie, I had such a hard time getting mine that I made instructions for myself (I'm a trainer at a Bank--it's the anal part of me!! ) Here they are: For the Ticker Factory: go in and create your own ticker (be sure to remember your password!) At the end, highlight everything in the top box (the bb: box), right click and hit Copy. Then come into this site and go to Edit Signature on the right hand side. Left click in the big box. Then right click and hit Paste. You should see your ticker appear. Be sure to go to the bottom of the page and click on Save Signature. When it comes back, you'll see your ticker at the top of the page. (Then to change it, all you have to do is to double click on the one at the top of the page)...<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> __________________ (I always had trouble following the written directions from the Net) Hope this helps :wink2:

Yep, bestarcher is right--just go to your ticker, either in a thread or at "Edit Signature" on the right hand side and double click on it. It will open up a separate window for the Ticker Factory. Key in your pin and click on "Update my Ticker". At the next screen, enter your pin again and go down to what you want to change. After making the change, click on Next and it will take you to a screen that says you've been changed. Now close that window. Back in this site, go to Edit Signature and go down and click on Save Signature. When it comes back, you should be up to date!

I hadn't gotten any restriction until this last (third) fill--and I'm sorry to say it only lasted about two weeks--so I'm back on my own personal restriction. And yep, I've been on a plateau for about two weeks--no change, even by 1/10th! I'm just doing the exact same thing I've been doing--limiting my food and exercising four days a week (you're ahead of me in that area!!) so I KNOW it's bound to kick in sooner or later. I'm looking forward to my March 14 appointment for that next fill and restriction again!!

In the six months pre-op doing a food Log for the nutritionist, I used the website Nutrition facts, calories in food, labels, nutritional information and analysis – NutritionData.com . I found it to be great--I just put in my food and it gave me a nutrition label for each! It also has areas in the site for personalization. Just a great site to use...

Isn't it awesome when you actually begin to lose pounds?? I mean, I couldn't get a pound to come off to save my life before and now my Band is just my miracle!! When I hit a plateau, which has happened a few times (like right now), I just come into here to my "friends" and get all the encouragement I need to continue doing all the right things for me--and not to go down that old road again. Isn't LBT just the best?!!! :cursing:

Pre-Op negative feedback from friends.....
make33 replied to KarenH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I joined Curves five years ago they had a contest to see who could lose the most inches, and displayed the inches lost with a ribbon. Well one woman had a ribbon that went from ceiling to floor---and THEN I found out that she'd had 'surgery' and you know what I thought? I thought, "Cheater!!" Boy, we do live and learn, do we not! This Tool we've been given means Portion Control to me more than anything else! It means I'm eating a small piece of chicken and green Beans for dinner, when formerly I would have four country style barbequed ribs, 1/2 a package of Kraft macaroni and cheese, and green beans (and 4-6 chocolate chip Cookies during the evening!) Yes, my coworkers and I got to the point where we didn't even talk about the surgery in the six months pre-op because they were bound and determined I "just hadn't found the right diet for my metabolism". Now--almost five months later? They are SO supportive of me! You just consider what YOU want--the rest of the world will catch up to you later...:cursing: -
All I will say is to be sure to buy whey Protein isolate, which is pure and mixes up with a spoon. If you do happen to buy whey protein concentrate, just be aware that you will have to use a blender or it will lump up on you. There are a gazillion flavors to choose from--sorry I can't recommend anything specifically from GNC, because I buy my supply from the Internet. Best wishes to you! PS If you buy a canned protein shake, ya gets what ya pays for!! (To me they ALL taste tinny--good for convenience only!)

Cover and support belly&band when exercising
make33 replied to katschai's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Aubrie, my surgeon tells me that my port is sewn into my abdominal muscles--so I would think that's why you're experiencing pain when doing Water aerobics, from the pulling on the muscles as you bounce. Like Juli, my biggest issue has been with the leg press, both at the YMCA and at Curves. And I severely reduced the amount of weight I had been using so that I could still do the press. But now, two months after going back to weight training, I'm able to continue to increase my weight on that machine and will hopefully eventually be back where I was pre-op. The gist of that is that I think eventually your stomach will tighten up and get stronger and the port pain will subside and hopefully go away altogether! -
