Please wait for the 2 weeks!! For your safety. It is so your sleeve can heal. If you start on softs foods early out with the fresh suture line and swelling you risk a leak and that is horrible news. You will be NPO (nothing by mouth- not even water) and have an IV with your nutrtion for weeks. I met a girl who got a leak a week out and she was on TPN (IV's only) for 5 weeks. She cried everytime at our support group. Its not worth the risk! You will be eating normal soon enough.

Anybody 6 To 8 Months Postop ?
FishingNurse replied to Luv4me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3.5 months post op and I eat 1200 a day. I also work out a lot. For general health purposes I also feel like less than that is not healthy. Preop I ate 3500 minimum a day, I'm trying to maintain my muscle mass and skin elacicity. Slower is ok with me. Remember, you need to make a deficiency of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound, that's a lot! It takes time. -
Throat Burning Feeling...
FishingNurse replied to Katrina Huxley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think so. It's the calcium that helps. You could even buy liquid Maalox at any drug store -
Throat Burning Feeling...
FishingNurse replied to Katrina Huxley's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most surgeons do prescribe a ppi (proton pump inhibitor) aka. Prilosec, Prevacid, nexium, or protonix for all sleeve patients. You should inquire with them- if you can drink a little milk that would help to relieve some acid immediately. -

FishingNurse replied to Estella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are really worried milk of magnesia is a liquid you could take. I didn't have a bm for 7 days post op. this is normal. -
Throat Burning Feeling...

Could be acid reflux? When I get heartburn it feels like a sore throat slightly. Just a thought. -
3 Day Post Op And Not Eating Enough
FishingNurse replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first week you need to focus on staying hydrated. After the swelling goes down you will be able to get your fluids and protien drinks. Just focus on fluids for now it's ok!!! This is normal. Everyday it gets better. -

Need Guidance On Carbs And Calories!
FishingNurse replied to jillw8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's different for everyone. I shoot for 1200 a day minimum. I would prefer a little slower weight loss so I can maintain my muscle mass and skin elasticity and not lose my hair! ( so far so good) -
I have only had the slimes 5 times, I get it from bagels and flat breads. It's horrible and I avoid it at all costs.

I am the only one on here that doesn't do sugar free and fat free everything?? I feel horrible when I drink sugar free lattes, sugar free drinks, and have sugar free popsicles. Can you notice a difference when its not in your diet? I feel like it is toxic. I know it can help cut back on calories but I don't think that is needed for when I am (or others with VSG) are eating such small volumes of everything, plus I found out recently I need to eat at least 1200 cals a day to lose weight. I am not a carb counter- but I definately eat high protien first. Actually 80 grams per day. What is your opinion? What does your surgeon recommend? My surgeon's plan says eat sugar free and fat free everything but my NUT and the NPs I see know I won't follow that. One nurse mentioned she actually thinks it is better for some people. What do you think?

Calorie Point Testing At Lifetime Fitness
FishingNurse posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Has anybody had this test done? Its also called resting metabolic rate. A test that measures how many calories your body burns in a day at rest. This gives you an idea of how much you should being eating and working out to lose weight and gain lean muscle. I had this test done about 3 years ago and it did help me lose 45lbs-- But I of course stopped working out and following the eating plan and gained it all back nearly. When I had the test 3 years ago I weighed about 255lbs, and the trainer said I should eat 2500 calories a day to lose weight (and work out 4 days a week) and I did, and it worked! So I am soooooo excited and nervous to find out what my metabolism is now that I have lost 55lbs since my last test, (and went through a month of being starved basically.) Any thoughts, questions, input, etc, feel free!!!! I will follow up with the results!!!!! -
For Those Who Have Had A Gastric Sleeve Leak?
FishingNurse replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Good question! I think most leaks actually do occur in the few weeks following surgery. There was a girl in my WLS support group that developed a leak due to terrible wretching and vomitting post op. Her test the day after was fine. -
