starvation mode?
FishingNurse replied to olestevebone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to get my cals up to 1200 around 2-3 months I think. I did not like the idea of eating so few cals a day, although I lost 45 pounds in the first 3 months I think. my typical day eating 1200 cals- (fyi I am maintaining now, actually pregnant so I am eating about 2000 a day) Breakfast: I would get this at 6:30am on the way to work and nibble and sip until 8 large iced vanilla latte from caribou coffee (with 2% milk and not sugar free syrup) 200 cals 8g Protein turkey bacon mini sandwich from caribou 190 cals and 8g protein. Snack: mini babybel cheese 60 cals 6 protein. Lunch: egg salad (2 small eggs) with regular miracle whip: 200 cals, 12 gram protein. snack: 1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese and a few cheezit crackers 200 cals 12g protein dinner: tuna helper (basically tuna casserole, heavy on the tuna) 1/2 cup or so 180 cals 9g protein dessert/ snack: chobani 2% vanilla choc. chunk yogurt 140 cals 9g protein total: 1110 cals, and 64 grams of protein-- this was a pretty typical day. let me know if you have questions -

I can do the same. As long as you eat within your guidelines and keep losing that's all that matters :-) -
Is My Sleeve Too Big?
FishingNurse replied to buforu21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
After 6 months you are completely healed and your restriction is definately less then before. 6 months is when I noticed I could eat more too. 4oz of tuna.... Is that like a fillet or from a can? -

starvation mode?
FishingNurse replied to olestevebone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this freaked me out totally in the first months. I quickly made sure I got up to 1200 cals a day (to avoid this, and muscle wasting and tanking my metabolism.) I made goal eating 1200-1500 cals a day. It still blows my mind that some people it 400-600 cals a day!! -
What has your doctor told you to eat/or what not to eat over the next year?
FishingNurse replied to Johanna1955's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
there are 12 carbs alone in 8oz of skim milk how the heck do they expect you to stay under 15 carbs a day!!!! -
What has your doctor told you to eat/or what not to eat over the next year?
FishingNurse replied to Johanna1955's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jeesh!! My team of docs, np's nuts, and nurses said eat at least 1000 cals a day when able. carbs are not restricted either. I would waste away on that. My breakfast alone is more than your days worth of cals! -

Colonoscopy after?
FishingNurse replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a nurse and this is my area of expertise! How far out are you? I can drink liquids now just like I did pre-op but it look 5-6 months to get there. You should be ok as long you are not in the early stages! If you cant do the prep you might have to postpone it if you can. Is your colonoscopy routine or diagnostic? -
How long until "real" food?
FishingNurse replied to SleeveBeliever's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
As my name explains-- my sleeve likes everything still, just half as much as before!! I do naturally make healthier decisions but I can indulge from time to time with no problems! -

Why the sleeve and not bypass?
FishingNurse replied to odetteNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was not having to worry about significant vitamin deficiencies due to the malabsorption from the bypass. -
Totally agree with OTR sleever. I WiSH it was a chore again!

Average calorie intake
FishingNurse replied to Huntingnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
during weight loss I ate 1200 minimum a day as soon as I could (maybe around 3 months) and then 1400-1500 around 6 months. Maintaining at 1800-2000 for about a year! I for one probably ate 3000- 4000 per day pre-sleeve. I didn't want to tank my metabolism. I think the chance for regain goes up if you eat 600 cals per day for a year, its so easy to eat a little more and gain weight off of 1000 cals (my friend had gastric bypass and this happened to her) she regained 75 pounds eating 1000 cals a day! Everyone is different-- this is what has worked for me. -
I cheated on my pre-op liquid diet
FishingNurse replied to newme31's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you haven't failed. That diet is HARD! I will never drink slim fast or carnation instant breakfast again thanks to that diet. I cried on day 2 of my 14 day liquid diet. on day 8 I went out for a friends birthday and had buffalo wings and a beer. I some how pulled it together and made it from then on out. it all worked out. Its ok, we are human. Do the best you can and if you slip up a little its ok. -
Questions About Hair Loss and Highlights...3 months post-op
FishingNurse replied to Vidalia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I continued to get my foils every six weeks all throughout my process. I was completely freaked out about my hair the entire time! (but i survived look at my after pics-- you can't see any difference right?) But you will lose hair, but no one will notice but you. Mine started at 4 months and stopped at 8 or so. you will live! the foils didn't make mine worse.. I would have felt worse with out my highlights for sure!
