I'm having mine on the 14th, and I've read another post about a sleever that was certain she was feeling hunger. Many suggested that she take an antacid, because acidity can feel like hunger. Others suggested taking in more fluids. Some talked about it being a "mind game" your brain plays with your stomach. You have to get the right frame of mind. I don't know if any of this helps, but thought I would share.

Already lost 14 pounds, but don't start my preop diet until Thursday the 7th. Surgery on the 14th!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Thanks! That's what she is worried about. Although, since I got my approval and surgery date, she has started back on her diet and got a fill on her LB, and has last a little more. She said I inspired her to work harder to meet her goal, and the fact that she is doing the liquid diet with me let's me know that she really won't be jealous... okay, maybe a little.. LOL

I think that everyone researches WLS inside and out before making the big decision. I actually didn't know much about VSG when I went to my surgeon. I'd heard of it, but didn't know anyone who had actually had it! I went in thinking I wanted the Lapband also! My sister had had it done in May of "09, but she hasn't had as much success as she would like. Her starting weight was 279 @ 5'4" and she is just NOW down to 202. It was my surgeon who advised me against it. In reality, I live almost an hour (2 during bad traffic) from Dallas where my doc is located, so the maintenance would have been VERY difficult for me since I work 2 jobs and have 3 kids. Yes, I said 2 jobs, but they are not laboring, and one I do from home, lol. Congratulations on your decision and good luck!! Please keep us posted!

I have BCBS of Texas and my BMI was 45.9, they require either a BMI of 35 or greater with 2 health related issues due to obesity, or a BMI greater than 40. -
Losing weight during 6mo supervised diet

Unfortunately my weight just fluctuated in a 20 pound radius during my diet. My start weight was 310, my end weight was 302. HOWEVER, when I went to the surgeon, I must have been having a great week, because I was down to 292. Insurance still approved. I think it varies from insurance to insurance, but if you aren't sure, you can always call and ask them what their politics and procedures are to get an approval. Good luck! -

I'm curious how you are going to be getting back home after surgery! My doc advised someone take me home. I don't know about others, but I'm sure you will be sore! Are you flying? Is there not ANYONE that could possibly go with you? I have to admit, I'm a little worried about you going at it alone.

Yes, I only have to stay overnight in the hospital. The hospital requires a 23 observation period (odd number, weird) but that's better than a few days. My surgery is scheduled for 7:15AM Thursday the 14th! I'm 5 days away from starting my full liquid diet. I've been on 4 shakes, lots of clear fluids and one sensible meal a day for about a week and am down 13 pounds! I'm GEARING UP!!

YAY!!! How's that for timing! Sorry you have to go it alone. If I were closer to the border, and not having my surgery the day after you, I would come down there for support! Good luck starting your liquid diet tomorrow! Let me know how it goes!!

I agree, you may just need to put your foot down. I have sleep apnea, and my surgeon didn't order any tests for me on it. The only cardiology test I had to have was one stress echo, and that is only because I was a smoker for so many years. I hope that they back off, it isn't like this whole thing is cheap, AND to have to constantly add to that surgery bill with all these appt's elsewhere can't be easy on your wallet! Hope things get a little easier! -

I guess it depends on the people in your life. I told EVERYONE. I've been doing a log of everything I've had to do on facebook for all the people in my life, real time, or cyber. I'm proud of my decision and following through with all the steps that I've had to do to get approved by my insurance. This is not a small thing, and the people in your life should be supportive about YOUR decision since it is YOU body. Just my thoughts! With that said, I wish you the best of luck! -
