    Sex After Surgery?

Heh, this has become a bit of a issue in this house... Hubby had a vasectomy two weeks before I had surgery. He was told no sex for two weeks (we gave in two days before my surgery anyway LOL). Now, my surgery was almost two weeks ago. My surgeon said 2-3 weeks or when I feel comfortable. I'm thinking my stomach muscles are almost well enough. WooHoo!! It's been like once in four freaking weeks. Not okay! We've been married for 18 years and he's ex-Navy, so we've had longer stretches, but sheesh! I bet hubby HOPES my sex drive doesn't increase anymore after surgery. That's never, err... been an issue I've always had a higher sex drive than he has (okay, than most people, LOL).

    Puree stage

I start full liquids and purees on Tuesday. I have a grocery list and am going shopping Monday evening. Hummus, salsa, guacamole, tuna pouches, canned crab, light mayo, greek yogurt, fat free yogurt, refried Beans, ricotta, shredded cheddar, soups, cottage cheese, eggs, grits, laughing cow, soft brie, pizza sauce I know, grits are bad, but I figure I'm eating so little, I can have a small amount, right? Hmmm... I haven't had them in years, but it sounds SO good right now. I may rethink that, but I figured, keep 2 packs and give the rest to someone else. Anyway, I won't buy canned chicken or beef or anything, so hubby will make some for me to puree up into chicken salad and stuff like that.

    10 Days Post Op

I'm still a new post op as well. My suggestion is to get out. Go walk around your neighborhood (It's HOT here in Austin so I go late at night). Go walk around WalMart (they have big aisles and are open late, and you can lean on the cart if your tummy is still sore like mine). Go to the mall. Go look at before/after photos. But for me getting out of the house lifts my mood. I rode with hubby to get crickets for his lizard earlier today... just get out of the house as much as possible.

    TOM during surgery???

My period started the morning of surgery. I went to the hospital with a tampon. They don't allow that in the operating room, so they gave me pads and those itchy mesh undies. I wore that during surgery and when I sent hubby home to get himself a coat (it was freezing in the hospital), I told him to bring several pair of undies as I ALWAYS leak out of a pad, I dunno if I shift around too much or what. Anyway, I didn't have a catheter. They wouldn't let use tampons the whole time in the hospital (I put one in anyway as I got dressed to go home the next evening LOL). It was a mess and gross and annoying, but I survived. I told the admitting nurse right away because I knew about the tampon thing - plus at least 4 people asked me the first day of my last menstrual cycle (today, okay? TODAY! LOL))

Oh NO! 10 days out! HELP!

Deep breath! I'm sure you are fine. Some people come out of surgery already on soft foods. Just take a few deep breaths and go back on your plan.

    Being alone after surgery

Hubby was with me and I really did need him. The kids were gone the night before and of surgery and day after. He is home for the Summer so it has been wonderful. He kept track of my meds and made sure I took them every four hours. He helped me remember to drink all my fluids and the big thing is I've had BAD ab pain and he helped get the pillows under my belly if I was laying on my side (I can NOT seem to sleep on my back. Ugh!) for some support. He's also been errand boy.

    4 days post op

I had that same weird growling. It does it now, but MUCH less at day 10. I also had this weird noise, not quite burp, but a long weird thing as warm liquids were going down my throat. It was like it was going down and air was coming up, but not a burp. My kids LOVED those several days at the dinner table. They had great fun. Like I said, I might notice it once per day now, it's not nearly as bad as it was. Hang in there, it gets better every day for me

    Am I being unreasonable?

I'm only 10 days out, so take this for what it's worth... The best thing I did for myself was to hire a counselor that specializes in weight loss. I can't say if I haven't needed her or if my time with her helped me not have issues thus far, but I know that *I* feel better having someone to chat with every two weeks about what is going on with me. My insurance even covered it.

    Chicken??

I'm still on liquids post op, but we use a lot of this stuff called True Lemon on chicken/fish. I love lemon so yummy! Mix it with salsa? Light mayo? Dressings. A1... go lookit the condiment aisle and let your mind get creative LOL

    An option for water

I found the Kiwi strawberry in WalMart just walking around... online it says they have pink lemonade and tea as well, I think. I figure I'll keep an eye on them. I was able to use one of those and a scoop of Beneprotein in a bottle of Water today for 11 Protein. Woot.

    Packing for Hospital Stay

Very Little.... I wore the same outfit home that I wore to the hospital, just make sure it's loose and comfy. I bought clean undies and didn't put the bra on (incision is right at my bra line LOL Also: Chapstick Biotine (?) mouth spray A loose light robe (to cover the gown when walking) Slip on slippers for walking if you don't like those socks they give you, and I wore them home Your meds Toothbrush Hairbrush Book That was basically it. You aren't there long and the first day you're pretty drugged. I didn't even read much. TMI -- I had started my period that morning (and I'm told surgery brings it on for some ladies) and they gave me mesh undies and a bunch of pads. I hated the itchy mesh undies so had hubby bring several pair because I kept freaking leaking out the pads. They don't allow tampons. Stupid.

    Post op diet confusion

It may really be acid still. Can you take MyLanta (actually, that's in recall)... I'm on a prilosec and have issues sometimes and I'm cleared to chew on a couple of Tums... gets me through the bubble times.

Any 'self pay' sleevers out there?

I was with Dr. Ganta in Austin, TX. It was $14,500 for his fee, the nut, the fitness and psyche eval. It includes a year of follow up along with the hospital, anesthesiology, etc. I had to pay my own pre op testing (not sure, hoping the insurance will pick some of those up!). He's fabulous doctor, I was surprised that was his self pay fee, I've always been treated VERY well at his office. I thought of going to Mexico but I wanted the after care and I knew I needed it. In the end, I couldn't be happier with my choice.

    Doctor's

MY PCP wasn't all that supportive. She doesn't "believe" that WLS works, etc etc. But she said she'd sign whatever I needed because I "met the criteria". She was negative the whole time, but I got what I needed from her and I have an appointment with a new PCP who has a couple of other WLS patients and I am told she doesn't have a problem. We'll see, but I've decided that if a service provider is not 100% on my side and have my back, I'm not paying for their services anymore. Period.
  19. I split my Allegra in half (I started with quarters, but that's overkill for me). I take a long acting blood pressure pill and it has to be taken whole. No problems swallowing it. I am taking Tylenol EZtabs whole too. I think this is YMMV thing.

    Pissed off

Go do it. I balked about it too. But I never knew how bad my sleep was until I had good sleep. It's annoying, it's a hassle, but man... I wake up feeling good!

    Adverse Side Effects

I'm 6 days out. I've had general fatigue and a little incision pain, not a huge deal. I've had no problem getting fluids in. My biggest problem has been muscle pain under my largest incision. I don't know if they cut through that muscle or if it's just from them yanking stuff around in there or what, but it hurts like absolute hell to get sit up, sit down, lay down, etc. I'm blaming my personal trainer for giving me abs in the first freaking place I own the company and we all work at home, so it's not been a big deal, I was fully expecting to work more than I have though. I am a go-get-it type of person and it's killing me. Luckily my team is on top if it. and handling clients and stuff. I told them I'm off most of this week too. The most comfortable spot in my house for me right now is my stupid office chair, but I just can't do much work, so tired and I freaking hurt when I move LOL

    Butt pain!

I have had an anal fissure. Utlimately, I had to be put under and repair surgery done. It kinda sucked. I now use miralax each morning. EVERY morning. It's gentle and mixes well with just about anything. There's a compound that you can get from a compound pharmacy that will help, your surgeon should know what it is. It helps, but mine wouldn't heal on their own. I don't regret doing it. It took a week or so to heal after surgery. Best decision I've made other than the sleeve.

How are the jewels of June doing

Tylenol Extra Strength EZTabs are within the size limit (although I doubt I'd have a problem with a bigger one, I don't see to have a problem drinking or anything and can take pretty good swallows). The ab muscle pain is killer. I told my personal trainer that I'm blaming her for GIVING me freaking ab muscles to start with.

How are the jewels of June doing

Six days post op here (surgery 6/21). I'm okay. It's hard to get up and down and walk, I have severe muscle pain in my abdomen under my largest incision. It freaking hurts. I walk as much as I can. I stopped taking the Lortab because it wasn't really doing anything and am now taking Tylenol. No problems drinking. I'm still on clear fluids, I don't really care because I'm not hungry. I've lost about 6 pounds since surgery. So tired and fatigued. But I'm hanging in there. It will get better.

    The countdown begins...

I'm only 5 days post op. Just take it one hour at a time and let yourself feel whatever you are going to feel. Thinking of you tomorrow!
