The smell and the aftertaste!
SuperMom replied to LoserMama's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just can't do the shakes. Have spent prob HUNDREDS of dollars and I can take a sip and it wants to come back up. Having said that for some reason really sweet stuff (of any kind) just doesn't do well after the sleeve. I can do the Protein bars. I can do the unjury chicken broth (you have to buy it online). Now I am getting my protein from food but it is hard sometimes to get it all in. You are sooo right.....the smell and the aftertaste.........ewwwwwwwwwwwww....feeling your pain........... -
5 Days Post-op Only But I Need More Than Jello...help?
SuperMom replied to md071273's topic in Food and Nutrition
Right after surgery for the first couple of weeks get the fluid in. You will prob not be able to drink 8 oz. You will prob only be able to get in 3-4 oz. Drink whatever goes down well. After you get sick and tired of jello and sweet stuff, I found that egg drop soup (you can even blend it early on) was a welcome relief. Don't worry about limiting yourself on sf popsickles etc. Your biggest problem will be staying hydrated. Little by little you will start working protein in. Unjury chicken broth has 20 grams of protein in it and is not sweet. You have to order it online. It saved me the first couple of months. The egg drop soup also has protein in it. Good luck! -
Donating Blood After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
SuperMom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Lab rat here! I have worked in the hospital lab 25 years next year and am currently BB Supv. Have a question for you guys. I was thinking that since we have to take B12 ( I am not low but since the sleeve surgery my doc has me on it twice a week and he said I will have to take it for the rest of my life that way) that it would NOT be a good idea to be a blood donor as B12 is very important in RBC production. Does anyone post sleeve donate blood on a regular basis? Do you have any resulting anemia? Has your docs told you yes or no on blood donations? I was just courious. My hospital has a drive every month and I used to donate a couple times a year. Plan on asking doc on next visit. -
Would I Be Taking On Too Much After My Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
SuperMom replied to EmilyIsSleeved's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The first couple of months after surgery (and even sometimes now 6 months out) I am tired after working. I work 12 hour shifts at the hospital on my feet. If you did it at home and could take breaks in between working might be doable. You are going to be tired some. It is major surgery. But it is soooooooooooooooo worth it. Good luck -
Need Suggestions For Protein Sources Other Than Protein Powder
SuperMom replied to blinger12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
unjury has a chicken broth (ok they sell it as soup but there are no noodles so more like broth) but it tastes just like lipton cup of soup. I LIVED on it the first couple of months as the sweet shakes made me gag. I tried all kinds of brands and none of the milk based sweet shakes were tolerable. I get my Protein from food now. I got an email from Unjury the other day saying they had a sample pack now. I did not care for the unflavored one. I found it did not mix in well. Good luck! -
Gas bubbles get trapped inside your body and have to work their way out after surgery. I was having severe shoulder pain. It was gas. At week three it got better. This too shall pass. Gas X does seem to help. Also having my hubby chop massage my back helped too. Good luck!
-
I LIVED on the chewable gas X tablets for the gas until week 5.....at two at each meal....helped alot with the gas

prevacid and prilosec are over the counter ( I bought the generic and it worked just fine)

Lap Band Or Gastric Sleeve Surgery...losing My Mind
SuperMom replied to tamou37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I know the doctors who do the lap band want to promote their surgery - but - when I asked several people who actually had the band....they LOVED loosing weight but did not like the complications that the band had with it. Three of them are considering sleeve. So I just went with the sleeve. -
How Much Protein In One Sitting?
SuperMom replied to Dania621's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Most of your food choices once you start eating will be around 20 grams. A chicken breast, a small hamburger patty, etc. It is hard getting in 80 grams at first. But after a while it gets easier. Three meals a day is about 70 and with a protein snack like nuts, string cheese...80 is do-able. -
sorry if I was not clear above...........you pick ONE of the PPI to take.....he said all of these work equally well.
-
PPI is an acid pill. My doctor recommended either 1. Aciphex 20 mg 2. Nexium 40 mg 3. Prevacid 30 mg 4. Prilosec 20 mg 5. Protonix 40 mg He said for me to take them the first couple of months if needed for acid reflux. Some people find it helps with the stomach not giving the false hungry feelings. I stopped after a couple of months because I read it can interfere with some vitamin absorbance and because I felt I just did not need it anymore. Some of the above are RX only but a couple you can get over the counter. I got mine over the counter cheaper. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Not sure about any support groups in Miss (I have not heard of any) I am in Pass Christian. I had my surgery in Slidell with Dr. Warden. I think the hospital he is affiliated with La surg specialists has a group (or at least a nutrition group).

I crack myself up...the other night we stopped at Cracker Barrel ...I used to get the "big breakfast".......what was I thinking? I ate the over easy eggs and was STUFFED..........oh well.....usually my 4 year old and I share so she ate the rest..........it is weird what your head wants and what your stomach can hold is two different things. On the good side.....I am down 75 lbs.....YEA!!! Went from a size 22 to a size 14 (which is LOOSE) .......... Not in the fat girl sizes anymore...........get to go to the normal racks which is kind of weird..........
-
Very hard for me to wait 30 min after drinking before I eat. Esp when I eat breakfast out.....I used to enjoy the coffee WITH the breakfast....now I have to do one or the other. I have ended up most times bringing the coffee "to go". Still enjoying NOT being the fatest person in the Waffle House....lolol.....
-
my doc said any kind of soup so long as it is blended into nothing but liquid........no pieces.......he even said cream Soups were ok.......right after surgery though you need to concentrate on just getting enough liquid....don't worry about cheating too much.....you WONT prob be able to get enough Protein in (they started me off at 40 grams.....but now have me on 80 grams of protein a day) just stay hydrated!!!!!half the battle.....until about week 3.....good luck....one of the best decisions I ever made I think it is great you are planning ahead. If I had any tips for others.....I am mom and wife....and was really hard making meals for family when I did not feel like eating or could not eat what they were eating. I wish I had planned ahead and made some meals (like your soup) that EVERYBODY could eat. Again....good luck!!!

Post-op and bad breath????
SuperMom replied to RhondaLynn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES YES YES AND YES..........you better just go ahead and get a tongue scraper (walgreens dental section really cheap) weirdness "grows" on my tongue....heard it is due to ketones???not sure but never had this before surgery and seems to be worse the weeks/days that I drop pounds...so prob true....good news is....still dropping weight! Scraping the weirdness off my tongue made the bad breath go away so now I do it daily with brushing my teeth in am. -
Internal Stomach Staples
SuperMom replied to Katie713's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The way my doctor explained it to me.....the staples are actually like a "zipper" and not individual staples. The body realizes the staples are "foreign" material and the scar tissue actually "seals" all the way over the inside of the staples will no longer show up if you looked with a camera on the inside of the stomach. He showed me a photograph of three months after the surgery from the inside of the stomach no staples were showing only smooth red stomach tissue. -

6 months out and I need help!!!
SuperMom replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No answers here...not at my goal yet either. On a personal note, I dipsticked my urine the other day to check for ketones (you can buy these dipsticks at the drug store like in the old Adkins diet days) even though some days I am not loosing on the scale, I feel I am loosing inches. Yep the ketones were there so I am burning fat even though the scale gets stuck. At least that makes me feel somewhat better since I am doing what I am supposed to do. Just a thought. I am the kind of person that likes something I can SEE. LOLOL......show me the money kind of gal.......need to change my ticker again....158......one measly pound down but at least it is one lost and not gained???????? -
Is unjury chicken broth the only clear broth on the market with Protein in it? I tried using the Jay Robb unflavored powder in chicken broth (WAY GROSS) did not work. Boo....still have this HUGE expensive jug of Jay Robb and have not found anything I can mix it in where I don't taste it???? I need a broth/soup that has protein in it. Can't stand the shakes. What do you mix unflavored Protein Powder in? Thanks!

Took an old recipe for snack pecans and did it sugar free. Mix together 2 egg whites 2 cups pecans 1 Tablespoon cinnamon 1 Tablespoon salt 1 cup Powdered Splenda (I used the one in big bag) bake 350 20-30 min (I used aluminum foil sprayed with pam so it came off easy) until dry and crunchy. Not sure of stats....but yummy and has protein! I forgot to put - make sure you include the egg whites....they kind of "bake" the pecans together like a praline (minus the sugar...hahaha)

When will my hair loss slow down?
SuperMom replied to wondering1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to say the same thing as the post above me. When I hit the 50 lb mark my hair started falling out in clumps. It was so much I had to vacuum the bathroom floor almost everyday. I put myself on biotin (doctor said works for some and does not work for others). At my 4 month doctor visit he up'ed the protein from 60-70 to 80 grams a day. After about a month on the 80 grams the hair loss has not stopped but is much better. Only a few strands when I brush instead of handfuls. They also said the hair is on 3 month cycles of grow and fall out and surgery and anest. can make it fall out too and not much you can do about it. -
OMG! Nausea, dry heaves, and more... proceed with caution...
SuperMom replied to Pagie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It helps if you can figure out what triggered the nausea. For me right out after surgery the protein shakes made me ill. Also....wierd but if I take my vitamins in the am with coffee they go down fine. Afternoon they make me hurl????Not sure why. What were you eating when the nausea struck? Might want to avoid it for now??? Also....the mucusy thing was better for me (right after surgery....now no prob) if I drank more had less problems with excess mucus. That got better for me about month 2. Good luck!
