I love this one. Of course I’m partial to darker colors. White scares me, it never comes out clean after I wear it. But this outfit is super flattering on you.

Oh I love a funky necklace. I’m so afraid to pair them right so I don’t even try.

I also love about their jeans, the lengths. I’m tall and I can find what I like in the store, then go home and order them in tall online. They also come in short.

I love Maurices jeans. Their brand is great for my curvy hips. That’s what I’m wearing today too.

I want to play too. Right now I work in a very casual rural medical clinic. Next Friday I transfer into town for an awesome promotion. So as my husband said this morning till next Friday I will be getting good use out of my jeans before my work attire has to change to very professional.

    weight

I’m 5’7 and was at my 8 year post op appointment 2 weeks ago. My surgeon was very happy with where I am at He said the 146.6 was a perfect BMI for me.

Any foods permanently off your safe list?

My surgeon says no carbonated beverages, I still do a little bit, just one a day. Of course I can’t drink regular or diet, only the zero soda like Coke Zero don’t make me sick. I am now lactose intolerant. High fat foods like sausage makes me dump. Sugar and even sweeteners make me sick. Then I also avoid straight out carbs. Anything fried makes me sick. I am 8 years out.

    The Maintenance Thread

I’m new to this thread. July 2011 had the sleeve, August 2011 had peg tube inserted, same month had a PE, December 2011had RNY, February 2012 had bowel rupture with complications. January 2018 had an iron infusion. I started at 5’7” 260 pounds. I was down to way under weight at 130 by June 2012. A year later I tried to start gaining weight. Needless to say I was super depressed after all my complications. I had gotten up to 190, overeating on carbs, not getting my Protein. I didn’t try to completely loose weight with a good bariatric diet, but got down to 168 just not overeating any more. Then a few months ago I was ready to get back on track. I started logging my food intake, and started back at all the beginning bariatric diet. I was super strict on carbs and protein and around 600 calories a day with skipping breakfast. I went to see my surgeon again after a six year break. That was 2 weeks ago. I weighed in at 146.6, he said a perfect weight for me. I’m still trying for 140, but have changed my diet again to protein only, and psyllium fiber, surgeon orders. I asked about all the other nutrition. He said because of all my surgeries my body is unlike any others. So a normal bariatric diet is not ok. He put me back on the correct multivitamins, and other supplements. So I’ve been following his guidelines. I am now lactose intolerant, any sugars or fats make me sick. So now I am eating only protein, drinking a gallon of water a day. Still only able to eat about 800 to 1000 calories a day. In the last 2 weeks I’ve gained 3 pounds, don’t know how. I am glad to see this thread. Long time vets to get tips and tricks from.

How many calories do you eat a day?

I’m 8 years out and can only manage about 1000 a day. Anymore and I am just uncomfortable. If I eat more than 500 at a meal, it’s not pretty.

    Burping

I am 8 years out and still burp a lot more than I did before. It does get better. I find when I eat to much I burp more. Or when I’m on the onset of dumping I do. Thankfully I dont dump much anymore now that I know what to avoid.
  13. I had both the X-ray and the CT where I had to drink that nasty stuff. It’s 8 years later, and I still remember that nasty crap that made me throw up multiple times. But both scans did catch my problems quickly. I had to do one last month and just put that nasty taste taste in the forefront of my mind. Thankfully I didn’t vomit uncontrollably this time. But those scans do pinpoint problems if there are any.
  14. I never had any compression socks either. I had the machine on my legs with the lovenox injections. I still got a blood clot, but I was in the hospital way longer than most.

    Blahhh STOPPED!

I agree track foods/fluids. I understand the busy lifestyle of kids and full time work. I pack a protein shake for lunch, and have to say no to lunch invites out. I track everything I put into my lunch box in the morning so I will know what to plan to eat for dinner with the family. Good luck with your journey.

Eating with the family post surgery.

My advice is make a protein and veggies you can eat. Then I make sure to have a starch added to the meal, one you don’t eat. It’s helped that with my meat and potatoes husband he will be happy, and my 10 year old still gets her veggies. Sometimes they want pizza, or other stuff I can’t eat. I keep single turkey burgers, or chicken breasts that are easy to thaw so sometimes we just have 2 different things on the table. When we eat out I can order just a piece of grilled chicken, or the sandwich without the bread. Restaurants are very accommodating, and never look at me funny for ordering like that. Mexican is easy, a side of shredded chicken with chilie on top. Good luck.
  17. Stay hydrated. I would also suggest Protein 2o water. I love the grape one. It might go down easier than plain water since you can’t handle it. I had a different experience, so after my original sleeve I couldn’t swallow an ounce of anything because my sleeve had swollen shut. But you sound so much better. Also try the chicken broth protein powder, if it’s warm it might go down better. Good luck.

    candy barrrrsss *super trooper voice*

Oh no I just ordered those. I am sensitive to lots of things now, not whey at least since that’s what I only use. Did your surgeon have any other ideas for a good protein substitute?
  19. Hi everyone, I’m new here. My journey began July 25th 2011. I went in to have a sleeve at 250lbs. 7 months later I left the hospital for good with a gastric bypass. From my original surgery my stomach swelled shut, and started growing together. I had to have a peg tube inserted to get nutrients. I had multiple infections, a pulmonary embolism. Finally the surgeons decided a gastric bypass was what would correct my body. Finally had the gastric bypass, and went home feeling so much better. I went home eating solid foods already. About 2 months later I had a bowel rupture, and after more infections and 2 more surgeries, one removing my gallbladder, I was finally released from the hospital for the last time. I got down to an unhealthy 130, my BMI was now to low. So I started on the mission of trying to gain weight. Well that got out of control and got up to 190. By that time I could no longer see my surgeon because my husband was no longer in the Army, and you can’t see a military doctor on civilian insurance. About 4 years ago I started having either severe constipation or severe diarrhea. I started seeing a gastroenterologist, who didn’t understand my surgeries, and just told me to deal with it. I had to have an iron infusion, once again dealing with another doctor that didn’t understand my body post RNY. About 6 months ago I decided enough was enough and wanted to be healthy again, my original goal in all this. It was time for control back in my life. I started eating correctly again, and am now down to a healthy 147. I decided to finally go see a bariatric surgeon to get my life back on track. While searching for a good one to go see (I live in a rural area, and knew traveling was the only answer) I found out my original surgeon now runs a bariatric clinic in Albuquerque about 5 hours from me. I called to see if I could see him. Not even an hour after I made that call his nurse called me back saying her remembered me and my case well and wanted to see me. I saw him 2 weeks ago. He put me back on a good bariatric multi vitamin, the correct iron my body will absorb, and psyllium husk, because he knew exactly what was causing my constipation issues. It’s been a long road, and I’m back feeling healthy and happy again. I’ve been needing to get back to people of my own, and know now I need the support of those who understand this journey and become active in these groups again. Sorry for the long post. It’s been a long road.

    New here!!! 8 years out!!!

FluffyChix, he said I may be eating my veggies, but between the protein I eat, I just don’t get enough fiber. The protein in itself can cause this. He said the psyllium is high fiber, that my body will digest. It has had a great impact just in 2 weeks of taking 25MG a day. I mix it in Trop 50 and my daily protein shakes. Thank you for the great welcome.
