    Question about flour

I found a recipe for Chicken Piccata that is supposed to be WLS friendly here. But it involves flour. Are we allowed to have flour?

    Question about flour

Thanks for the reply. Despite the picture showing pasta, I wasn't going to serve it with pasta. I don't have any almond flour and I'm trying to stay away from carbs as much as possible so I think I'll just use your suggestion of browning the chicken a little more.

    Good marinade recipes

Does anyone have any good recipes for marinades? I'm thinking of marinading chicken breast for tonight and want a good recipe.

    Who Are You?

I'm Rachel. I'm 27 years old and I'm married to my wonderful husband, Billy. We have no kids as of yet, but we do have a toy poodle named Freddy. I have 2 main motivations for having this surgery. One is that I want to live a good, long life. The other is that I would like to have a baby some day and right now I don't think I'm in good enough physical shape to try for a baby. I don't know, realistically, whether or not I will ever have a baby, but it's a dream. See, in addition to being morbidly obese, I have Asperger's syndrome, adult ADHD, depression, a non-verbal learning disability, and a NOS mood disorder. NOS stand for Not Otherwise Specified. Basically I get horrible mood swings when I don't take my meds. I've been stable for the past few years thanks to my therapist, my psychiatrist, and my meds which are Concerta, Welbutrin, Abilify, and Lamictal. I'm Jewish, but pretty reform. Basically I go to synagogue on the high holy days, don't eat pork, and light hannukah candles. My husband is Catholic, but also not very religious. He goes to church on Christmas and Easter.

    I'm back!

Thanks everyone! I had to cut the post short this morning because I was running late, but now that I'm back I can post more. My husband is doing weight loss surgery with me, but he's getting a band instead of a sleeve. I'm glad I have support and while I do wish he'd do the sleeve with me, I'm not going to make him do something that he's not comfortable doing.
  11. Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm 27 years old. I joined here in May of 2011. I've been considering weight loss surgery for awhile now but the first two times I tried to have it I was told that I was "not a candidate at this time" due to my mental health history. But finally, a few days ago, Friday the 3rd to be exact, I was told that I'm now a candidate! I chose the sleeve over the band because I don't think the band gets good results plus I don't want a foreign object in my body. I chose the sleeve over a bypass because a bypass is malabsorbative and I don't want to change the way my psych meds are absorbed. I do have to do a 3 month medically supervised weight loss program before I can be scheduled for surgery because of my insurance.

    Update on me

BIDMC is Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. It's a hospital in Boston.
  13. Well I decided to get the sleeve done. I have fulfilled my seminar requirements and sent in a screening application. I got a confirmation email saying it was received and that they would get in touch with me within 48 business hours. I'm a little nervous that I will be told that for some reason I'm not a candidate. Edited to add that I'm going BIDMC for my hospital.
  14. Congratulations! Wonderful news!!!!

    June 23rd!!!!!

Congrats! It's on my birthday to boot!
  17. Hi everyone, I'm Rachel. I live in Massachusetts. I currently have a BMI of about 65. I'll be 26 years old on June 23rd. I've been toying with the idea of weight loss surgery for a couple of years ago. I was all set to get an RNY in August, but unfortunately, I have a couple of mood disorders so I was told that I would have to stay out of the mental hospital for at least a year before they would consider me for surgery. I was also told that I am not a candidate for the RNY because it would change the way my medications are absorbed and nobody wants that. I thought that meant that my only option was the band, and that depressed me because it doesn't have very good long-term results. Then I heard about the sleeve. The more I learn about the sleeve, the more I think that it's for me. However, it's been a bit of a challenge finding a program. the two closest hospitals to me, Emerson Hospital and Lowell General Hospital, do not do the sleeve. Another hospital in the suburbs, Newton-Wellesley Hospital, does do the sleeve but I found out today that the hospital does not take my insurance. Now I'm looking into Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Mass General Hospital to have the sleeve done.
  18. For insurance reasons, yes I do.
  19. Has anyone had the surgery done at NWH? Reviews?
