major burning in stomach after eating
bev40 replied to tharpcooks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I know you haven't seen me here before, but I was banded April 2007 and I used to come on the forums back then but stopped a long time ago, but I came back because I started to have burning sensations in my chest and stomach about 2 months ago. I thought it would go away, but it didn't and I just wanted to find out if anyone else was having the same problems and if they had any suggestions. I was going to go to a bariatic doctor, but decided to ask a doctor friend of mine. I told her the symptoms and she said it could be ulcers or gastritis. Anyway she suggested I try Prolosac (maybe spelled wrong) which is an acid reducer. She had some samples in her car and gave them to me. It's a 14-day treatment where you take 1 pill a day in the morning with a glass of water before eating anything. Well, let me tell you that towards the end of the day (I started yesterday 11/29), I started feeling better. By the time I got home from work (5:30pm) I felt like a new person. Today, 11/30, I'm not burning at all. I'm going to continue the 14-day treatment and see what happens. You can only do this treatment every 4 months, unless instructed by your doctor. All I can say is OMG! It worked and I'm just happy as a bee right now! You can get Prolosac over the counter and they may a stronger prescription version. The generic name for it is Omeprazole. Please, by all means go to your doctor first. I hope this helps. -

major burning in stomach after eating
bev40 replied to tharpcooks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I searched the forums to see if anyone else had the same problem as I did and I found your post. You described the same exact problem I have. After I eat, I get this excrusiating burning sensation in my stomach on the left side. I've been banned for 4 years now and for the past 2-3 months have had this problem. I really hope it's not the band and possibly something minor. I definitely need to see a bariatic doctor because I don't know if I can take it any longer. If you find out what the problem is, would you let me know. It would help me tremendously. Thanks. Beverly -
My story is up there with yours or maybe worse. Check this out... I had my surgery on April 27, 2007, a day before my B-day, Whoo Hoo, right. You know when they tell you to do the liquid diet before surgery. Well I just couldn't make myself follow any diet and I don't know why. Anyway, I didn't lose anything before my surgery. My doctor checked my BMI and said he could go on with the surgery, Yippeee!. Well, anyway, all went well and I tried my best to follow the food instructions. Guess what? For a whole year I LOST NOTHING! NOT ONE POUND! I was eating less, so why hadn't I lost anything. Who knows. Anyway, even though I didn't lose a pound, I didn't gain anything, Whoopee, right? Wrong! About two months shy of a year. I started gaining weight. Of course, by this time, I thought I was invinsible. I ate whatever I wanted and thought I wouldn't gain anything. Boy was I wrong. I gained about 20 pounds which put me at a higher weight than when I first had my surgery, eeeekkk! I couldn't be more disgusted and depressed. I too, didn't want to go back to my doctor with this weight gain. My co-worker finally convinced me to just go back and get a fill, which I should have gotten when I first saw the signs of eating more than I should. Anyway, I went to get another fill and that did the trick. I started losing weight immediately. I've lost about 41 pounds so far (10 months). I can tell you that I am still losing weight, but slowly. I guess I can get my lazy behind into a gym or start walking again because it did help. Anyway, we are both struggling, so you're not by yourself. It will take some time and I know and you know we can work this band, girl. Get back on track. It's the only way to go. Good luck and Happy New Year. - Beverly Los Angeles, CA

Your most embarrassing fat moment (sad, funny, pathetic, turning points)
bev40 replied to chameleon's topic in The Lounge
Chameleon, I just want to tell you that you are beautiful no matter what anyone says and it's their loss, not yours. I haven't been subject to the same ridicule like you have but I did once feel so hurt by an ex-boyfriend when I saw him again after a couple of years at my job and he looked right at me and didn't acknowledge me when he saw me. I had gotten a little bigger, but didn't think that he would never say hi or anything. When he did that, I went into the bathroom and sobbed like a baby. I was so hurt. I didn't think that I'd be affected by this, but I was. That day I made a promise to lose weight. It's been a journey of yo-yo dieting, losing alot, then gaining alot. I pray that my band will help me. -

Hey, Janell I hope all goes well with your surgery and that your weight loss journey will be a steady one. Yes, I've read and researched the lap band, yes, you will lose at at slower rate, but it's better for you. Alot of people who were banded really like it. Some get inpatient, but they finally realize that although the weight loss is slow, they are still losing. This method really teaches you discipline and to eat the right foods so that your health improves. I personally, think I will do well with the band because of those reasons. Now, with the gastric bypass, I know two co-workers who have had it. They are happy they made the decision to have the surgery and don't regret anything. They've lost alot of weight and right now, their weight has tapered off. If they want to lose anymore, they'd have to exercise regularly and eat healthjier. They even gained 10-15 pounds back. So you see, GB is not a cure-all, just a tool, like the lapband. They won't or shouldn't, of couse, gain all the weight back, but should watch what their eating and exercise. I've read negative and well as positive things about both GB and the lapband, but I do know it's ultimately my decision on which procedure is best for me. -

Hey Janell, I too will be banded on April 27, 2007 with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. Where are you going to be banded, if that's ok? I feel the same way you do. Have you been to any seminars? I haven't been to any, but I'm going to try and find one here in Los Angeles or nearby just to make sure I know what to expect, and of course, talk to the bansters on this forum. Well, good luck with everything. -
Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say hello to everyone. I haven't been banded yet, but will be on April 27 with Dr. Ariel Ortiz Lagardere in Mexico at the Obesity Control Center. I know, you're probably saying, Mexico? Yes, Mexico. He comes highly recommended and the cost is fairly reasonable considering the cost in the U.S. Thank God I don't have far to travel. I am very eager and excited about it. Can anyone tell me briefly, how their experience was getting banded? I'd really like to hear your thoughts. Thanks.
