i dont see how im ever going to eat :(
Heatherr replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It will get easier, and likely soon. We all heal differently, but seriously, at 5 weeks post op, I can eat almost anything. I haven't tried things I know would wreak havoc, but normal foods do well. I do still get a pain if I gulp. That sometimes happens after I exercise and I go to rehydrate and forget to go slow. Food generally doesn't cause pain unless I swallow a piece that I didn't chew well. While some have smaller stomachs than I do and some will just heal slower, I just wanted to pointed out that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. You'll start feeling great very soon. -
September 10th check in/weigh in
Heatherr replied to mamamckinzie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! I lost a lot pre op, so my stats are skewed, but I've lost 4 pounds this past week - looks like the stall is finally over! Woot! I'm down 22 pounds since surgery and 75 over all. -
I was sleeved August 2nd, have lost 12lbs since, most of that in about 5 days. I've been at the same weight now for 5 days. I think it's likely a stall. Blah! I was hoping to get 2-3 weeks of solid loss first, but it's not like I have control. I just follow the plan and what happens, happens. I did expect it to be slow since I lost 53 lbs pre op. Hope y'all are doing well and feeling good.

I put on some jeans I got for Christmas about 7 years ago. They have never fit. They didn't even fit last week, but today, they do!!!! And I don't mean in that don't breath barely button kind of way, I mean I comfortably wore them all day and looked good, no muffin top. I am the smallest I've been in 12 years.....still plugging along, but feeling pretty flipping good.

It's sooo fun! I try on clothes every week or two. And it's funny how I may lose only 2 pounds in between that time, but things that didn't fit those 2 pounds ago are suddenly fitting very comfortably, like I got a lot smaller even though the scale says otherwise. That's why I do it! When the scale is dropping, I feel positive about the journey. When the scale slows or stalls, it gets frustrating. I purposely start trying on clothes then because I find it the best way to see how I am still shrinking even if the scale doesn't say so.

Youtube. Seriously. Some of them even tell you whatou what eyeshadow color and brand they use. Ive learned some great tips....like scotch tape...never would have thought of using scotch tape to get the defined line wihtout powder all over my face. -
I can eat over 1/4C at 5 weeks post op....easily. 1/2C seems to be my comfortable spot unless it's something really dense like grilled chicken or beef. Then it's less. I average about 600 calories a day, but I can get more if I eat less healthy. Read: eat out. I'm at 400+ calories today and we're going out for dinner, so it'll probably end up being more like 800 today.

Sleeve + School + Working....
Heatherr replied to Neoteric Verve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Any update? I'm back in school full time (Math/science major) at 37yo. I can honestly tell you that I don't think it's possible. I hope you postponed classes. I don't have a full time job outside of home, but I have 5 kids. Between taking 5 classes, caring for hte kids, homework, carpooling and all of their activities, plus trying to keep the house relatively clean and feed them something resembling healthy, I am going straight out from 6am until 9pm when I crash from exhaustion. I had to drink coffee to stay up until midnight last night to finish homework. There are just not enough hours in the day and I find I don't always have time to make sure I eat and drink enough. That is a full time job in the beginning on it's own. I cannot fathom dealing with working 48 hours a week on top of it all. There just are not enough hours in the day and I couldn't last more than 6 hours without needing a nap for the 1st 2 weeks post op. -
First sleevers, how is everyone doing?
Heatherr replied to Heatherr's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yay!!! I gained 2 lbs from TOM (I assume) I hope I'm back to losing in the next day or two. It's funny though, I gained weight but my jeans are starting to sag in the heiny (not a good look) -

Stall stall stall. Blah! I lost 20 lbs in 2-3 weeks and now...nothing. Oh well. I know it'll be over soon. On a good note, I can eat almost anything, just in super small quantities. HUbby took me to Panera bread and I got a black bean Soup. I ate 1/4 of it and had some of his salad with chicken. It felt nice to be able to go out and eat normally, at least normally enough that nobody would notice, though hubby laughed when I said I was full and most of my soup was still in the cup. I'm back in school full time and the schedule is making it tough to get all the Protein in. I may have to add 1 shake a day back to my diet. My surgeon OK'd it for me to run and lift weights again as long as it was light enough that I could easily do 25 reps. The first time I ran was tough, but I got right back into it easily. I'm hoping being able to exercise again will help kick start out of this stall. Hope everyone is doing well. I honestly cannot believe how good I feel at 4 weeks post op. I have plenty of energy, though I do poop out by 9pm, but that's after going all day long with classes, homework, football practice and maintaining a family of 7, so I feel blessed that I am able to do it all. -
Tired of this thing called 'THE STALL'
Heatherr replied to RuthiieBabiie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved August 2nd and in the exact same boat. It sucks. I gained this week, but got my TOM 2 days ago, so I'm hoping that was why and it'll come back off very soon. Keep plugging along. IT will come off because it has to - it's simple science, but I get your frustration. I'm on that bench with you. -
I am so frustrated I want to cry

Everything sits heavy for me the first time I try it, it seems. Eggs were the same for a week, then were a daily staple. I can now eat 1 egg plus 1 egg white or 2 egg whites and a piece of turkey bacon and feel comfortably full and sated at 5 weeks post op. Maybe just stick to half an egg for now. I had to put ground meat into the blender until week 4 post op and even now can only tolerate it with some food lube (read condiment). Were you ever a coffee drinker? I love a morning shake made with chocolate Protein Powder, some ice and some instant decaf coffee. Sometimes I add some hazelnut flavoring. It has good flavor, honest, and helps me get over my morning coffee craving. Also, try using half a scoop of the protein powder. It'll still give you a good portion of protein but will have less of the protein after taste. GL -
Checking in here too. I'm stalled. Blah. I eat about 600 calories a day at 4 weeks post op. I can eat most things now, but I stay away from dry or dense meat still. I love salad and tried some this week. It settled well, so I was happy about that. I am bummed the weight is coming off faster, but I look so much better now. I'm back in school full time and feel normal. I am no longer the fat one. ( I lost a lot pre op) My TOM is late. I'm going to assume I have a little Water weight from that and as soon as she rears her ugly head, the losing will commence again. I wish it would just happen already. I got all the symptoms, I know I ovulated, got crampy for a day, got zits but nothing else. Typical day of eating for me: 1 egg omelet (whatever fillers I feel like) sometimes 2 egg whites, sometimes 1 egg plus 1 egg white, though I can't quite finish it. 1/2 C cottage cheese tilapia fillet shake or shake 1/2 c low fat chicken salad string cheese 2 meatballs and 1/4C salad if I'm still low on Protein, I'll have 1/4 C cottage cheese or greek yogurt as a snack

Week 2--What are you having
Heatherr replied to Sleeveme2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on purees and mushies by 2 weeks. I was eating cottage cheese, Beans, eggs, chicken, tuna and egg salad and soft fish - anything that I could mash with a fork. I actually tried salad at 4 weeks out and it settled well. I'm so glad because I love salads of all kinds. -

Typical day, typical foods
Heatherr replied to Penpen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
first thing: Protein shake made with instant decaf coffee breakfast: 1/2 C cottage cheese or 1 egg or 2 egg white omelet lunch: 1/2C cottage cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, deli meat and a string cheese, a few shrimp dinner: whatever the family is having minus the carbs or I'll toss some shrimp, a tilapia fillet or salmon fillet in a pan and cook it quickly. I'm still fairly early out and cant eat too much yet, but I'll likely eat the same things as I go, but I'll add some veggies to eat. I actually tried a little salad this week and it was delicious and sat well, so I may be adding salad with grilled chicken or shrimp to my regular menu. I go to school full time and have 5 kids that I carpool all over, so I don't find the time to snack lately. I do keep track to make sure i'm getting in all protein and fluids though. -
I am 2 weeks post op and only lost 3 lbs this past week. WTH. I was losing 3lbs a week on my own. I expected stalls and one to happen very soon, but I was hoping to knock off 20lbs first. It's a little disappointing. So, now I'm thinking I'll stall soon, maybe next week and who knows how long that will last? Weeks it seems by what others have said, so I didn't get my big weight loss post surgery that most seem to get. Bummer. This seriously sucks.

Carb Intake after surgery
Heatherr replied to earthchick97's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm afraid of carbs and lose better when I avoid them. I stick to under 30 a day. It would be under 20 a day, often, if it weren't for all the carbs in my vitamins. When I get closer to goal, I'll start adding some healthy carbs back in. -
Cooking for your Family
Heatherr replied to A New Day's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have 5 kids and a husband. It was only difficult while I was on the liquid diet. I'm 3 weeks post op now and cooking normally without batting an eye. I can often find something I can eat that they are. On nights that I can't, like last night when they had pizza, I always keep frozen fish and shrimp in the freezer and just pan fry some quickly. I always have cottage cheese on hand and often chicken of some sort. I don't mind eating chicken salad while they eat the pizza or pasta. -
I was hardcore dieting for months before and lost 53 pounds before day of surgery. I think I laid my food demons to rest before I got on the operating table. I have had no issues adjusting. I find this easy. Honest.

I'm 3 weeks out and doing 500-600 calories a day. That seems good for now. Maybe in a few more weeks I may try to add another 100-200, more if I exercise heavily, but I am not at that point yet. I got the go ahead from my surgeon to start lifting light weights again. He stressed that meant if I couldn't easily do 25 reps that it was too heavy. Fine by me. I am not trying to hurt myself and happy to just lift the 5lb weights just to keep my muscles from wasting away. I worked hard on my arms and hate that they were getting soft. I walk on a steep incline on the treadmill. I tried running, but the truth is, I'm just not ready and don't feel a need to push it. When I start running again, I'll up the calories.

2 weeks post and discouraged
Heatherr replied to Heatherr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awe, thanks! Yes, things started moving again and although I was stalled for a bit, I did lose inches. I didn't measure, but I had some shorts that were snug when I was 227lbs but at 228lbs were actually baggy. Hope everyone else is plugging along.
