Surgery Canceled - High triglycerides
Heatherr replied to CodenameSpivey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is the craziest thing I ever heard. You can do this!!! Yay!! Get that play list going, gf. Other songs to add: Footloose (Kenny Loggins), The Final Countdown (Europe), Jump (Van Halen), No Easy Way Out (Robert Tepper - the song from Rocky IV), Panama (Van Halen), Lose Yourself (Eminiem), Enter Sandman (Metallica), Fighter (Christina Aguilera), I Stand Alone (Godsmack), Crazy b***h (Buckcherry), We Will Rock You (Queen) These are some from my workout playlist that I thought you may like since you mentioned 80's songs like Eye of the Tiger. -
There are hair extensions that come on little clips and combs so you can place them where you need them and they last forever because you put them in and take them out daily. I don't have any, but one of my besties does and they look great!

Just asking.. Dont Laugh!!!!!!!!
Heatherr replied to Tamz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Spanikopita <<<that's what it's called. Google a recipe, only when they call for layers, just don't do multiple layers with the dough, maybe just a top and bottom. I'm sure I could tweak this to be sleeve friendly. I may do that anyway because I love the stuff. Hmmm, some feta or lf cottage cheese for protein, maybe some protein powder too in the spinach mixture.... -

The ones I always have are Greek style made with phyllo dough which is a very thin pastry dough and gets crunchy. I don't think that would expand and would probably give you very little carbs if you only used one layer. -
How did your kids handle the change(s) in you?
Heatherr replied to treequeen's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Having said that, my older sons, 12yo and 11yo, seem hardly distracted by it all. In fact, I use it as ammunition to make my 12yo son gag. I say to him all the time "Hey, Michael, I'm gonna be hot next year." And he does the typical 12yo response "Ewwwww, Mommmmmmmmm, gross! I can't think of you that way." It so gives me pleasure to tease him with it all. -

Hmmm, upset to see Mom happy? Not a good sign, is he getting signals from someone else? Or perhaps he is insecure about himself? Tough age, most important piece of advice I can offer from the police side of things, DONT let him control you! I see this all the time kids that manipulate and control parents in trouble. You must take control status in parental relationship c&p that ^^^^^^ I don't think that is it at all. Wow. Kids love us unconditionally and get comfort from routines and everything being normal. All of a sudden, Mom is changing fairly drastically, and it can totally cause some distress, how can it not? My kids are all supportive, though my 6yo keeps asking when I'm going to have the surgery. He thinks I am going to simply come home skinny as well. It is so cute. The one who is having the tough time is my 9yo daughter. She's happy for me, but she's been quite open about her feelings. She has told me on more than one occasion that she is going to miss the old me and she gets teary. I comfort her and tell her it'll be slow, so she will hardly notice that I'm any different to her. It has nothing to do with lack of parenting or a need to be her friend. It has everything to do with good parenting and my role in helping her ease through a stressful situation. I've been doing it since she was born....you know....the first time she slept with the lights out, the first time she stayed with a babysitter, her first scraped knee, her first day at school and will continue to do so until the day I drop her off at college and beyond. -
Oh, and the pre op testing can take time if there is a waiting list. If you need a sleep study and they're booked 3 months in advance, there isn't much you can do about it, but that's not common.

It's about 4 months for me. Most of the time has just been waiting for other people to send, resend and sign off or approve on all the paperwork. My insurance said they'd approve or deny within 72 hours. That was over a week ago and I'm still waiting. Grrrrr. Everything is a go on my end, but I have to just sit and wait for everyone else to do their jobs and there's not a whole lot one can do about it. It seems most of the time is just what your doctor or insurance company require as far as a pre op diet plan.

Mine took 15 minutes, maybe 20, tough to remember but you get the idea. She asked me about my mental health and physical health and about the surgery. She asked WHY I wanted it because I didn't look like I needed it until I told her my BMI. I guess I carry my weight well. <shrug> She wanted to make sure I was doing this for me and that nobody else was making me do it or putting pressure on me to do it. She wanted to know what kind of support system I had etc. It went quickly for me because I do not have any history or mental illness or depression and do not take any meds and because it was clear it wasn't something I am reluctant about in the least. I have a good support system and am quite knowledgeable from reading these forums. I have already lost a good bit on my own without it being warranted. She wanted to know how I'd manage the 5 children post op. All in all, there were no red flags to discuss, so it went quickly. She actually seemed happy for me and was sort of congratulating me and told me straight up she was recommending me for the surgery and thought I'd be very successful. Use that to get an idea. It seems the questions she asked me are fairly typical, though you may have more to discuss than I did.

burning sensation post op day 3
Heatherr replied to MrsPositive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have stitches underneath the skin too, but like I said nobody knows. I guess I wasn't so calm coming out of anesthesia, sat up quickly, yanked the IV out of my arm and when the nurse came to make me calm, I pushed her away. Of course then the pain hit me like a ton of bricks and I screamed. That woke me up to being coherent and I begged for pain meds. I assumed I very well could have done some damage moving so abruptly just an hour post op. Hmmmm, I sure hope i don't react like that again. I should probably warn them ahead of time, huh? <cringe> I have no recollection of it and feel bad. -

Great thread title! Having said that, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have asked and just flicked the bean when the urge arose. <still laughing> ...over the image in my head of that phone call to the doctor. -
About the food=pleasure thing

I'm still pre op, so tell me to shut up if I am way off base here. Maybe try to find something else to fill that void. I get that same feeling after an orgasm.....just sayin'. -
burning sensation post op day 3
Heatherr replied to MrsPositive's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure that anyone really KNOWS what causes that burning sensation. I had it when I had my gall bladder removed. I can't remember exactly, but it seemed that it lasted a month...maybe a little longer, but it got progressively better. Some have mentioned maybe it was a pulled stitch. -
...and the keys in your pocket.....you know the one that has the 25 keys on it for the office building.

If you're that close....er.....get weighed again....and maybe have some ankle weights or arm weights hidden under your long sleeve shirt that you have to wear because you're so cold....and.....well....because you're so cold, you may have to wear leggings under your heavy pants and an oversized thick sweatshirt.....and that fashionable medallion necklace you love so much...you know...the one with the 4 pound medallion on it.

Unless you're allergic, aren't shrimp and Scallops a great protein
Heatherr replied to USMCwifeandTEACHER's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Asian shrimp kabobs: skewer shrimp, pineapple chunks, green peppers and onion in rotation. Save pineapple juice from canned pineapple chunks and add some of it to soy sauce and a little sesame oil. Brush this mixture on the kabobs and grill. Blackened scallops: dip ends of scallops in cajun seasoning (or spicy seasonings of choice, I prefer the tastefully simple fiesta blend) and sear so that the seasonings get dark/blackened. Shrimp stir fry....no recipe, I use what I have. I usually just pan saute them with a little garlic salt for quick meals or to top on a salad. Saute shrimp in hot sauce and make a dip from greek yogurt. I have put blue cheese crumbles in the yogurt and smashed it all together and I have added lemon and dill. Think buffalo style here. Both work well in marinara sauce and adding a touch of wine to the sauce really complements the shellfish. Render the fat from 2 strips of bacon and make a dressing with it by adding an acid....vinegar or orange juice etc. Crumble the 2 strips of bacon in the dressing and set aside. Make bacon wrapped scallops (I precook the bacon so it isn't rubbery) and serve on spinach greens. drizzle the bacon vinaigrette dressing over it all. -
Yep, You added bread and juice, that's double whammy on the carbs and you may not be getting in enough Protein. Change the diet, exercise and your body will kick in again. I'm still pre op so maybe it's different, but I find that if I vary my calories instead of eating the same amount day after day, that I lose more efficiently. So, instead of me consuming 900 calories every day, I may do 700-800 for a few days and then do 1200 the next day.
