  1. Milk is not agreeing with me either in my shakes so I tried Silk Vanilla Light and it is delish!
  2. If there is swelling she will not be able to get the sleeve until the swelling goes down. My doctor unfilled my band 3 weeks before surgery and then took it out and revised to sleeve in one operation. I hope all goes well with your mom.

    Nail Polish

I had my surgery on Friday and I have gel nails that do not easily come off. I called the hospital and was told as long as you can see through, polish is ok. Specifically, french manicure or just the pink from the french is fine. They only make you take it off if its a darker color and they can't see the little half moon at the base of the nail.
  4. I was self-pay for my lapband and VSG. I just had conversion to VSG on Friday, 6/17. I too was feeling the exact same thins you are. I'm glad I did it and I'm looking forward to each day that I feel better from surgery. No one can tell you that you are doing the right thing, only you can know that. For me, it is the best thing. I lost 53 lbs with lapband and only have maybe another 20lbs to go. With the VSG, I will be able to lose and maintain. Good luck on mOnday!
  5. I had my surgery early Friday and came home yesterday afternoon. I am sipping like crazy and get a gurgly tight feeling after each swallow. I think all I got in yesterday was 6 oz. Today I am going to try some yogurt and ice pops. Not too much pain gas, just where the large incision is with my drain. I will have that until Wed when Isee my doc.
  6. I'm home now and basically feel very sore. I don't have any gas pains at this point and I'm very happy with that. I am not really drinking much at this point but my doc told me its all normal. I am experiencing a little nausea on occasion with heartburn. Tomorrow I start with Prilosec two times a day and that should help. Other than that, I am very tired but thats it for now.
  7. I had my surgery yesterday and I get the gurgling with every sip too. My doc told me if I am drinking 32 by next wednesday I will be doing great. That being said, you are doing great and I wouldn't push it.

    BMI too low

I was also self-pay...first with the band and now the VSG. I think by self-paying, it has really helped me focus about making this lifestyle change. I also hope you have crappy results with the test!

    My Story

Welcome and thank you again for your well wishes on my surgery tomorrow!
  11. I am having my band to VSG surgery tomorrow morning and I just want it to be 24 hours from now and it will be over. I know this is normal but man, I was not this anxious and scared with the band surgery. I think a lot of it was kind of like having your first baby, you are scared because you don't know what to expect and with the second your scared because you know what to expect. Except with this, I have the added worries that I have scar tissue from the band, major organ getting removed, etc. So its not really the same thing, right? The following is my post on my blog today. I thought I would share it over here also. Hopefully any new followers will look back on my journey and realize that I've had a Lapband for 15 months and not think that I am a crazy person trying to become anorexic by getting VSG! Even I look at these pics and think "I think I look pretty good right now and I'm so close to goal. Why can't I just be like everyone else and have a band that likes being inside me and lets me continue to lose and maintain my weight!" Honestly, if my band would behave, I would stay at this weight even though I am not at goal. The problem is, it doesn't and I cannot maintain with an empty band. Been there and tried that. Not happening. Believe me when I say that I did not make the decision to have my band removed and revised to VSG lightly. I have and continue to agonize over it but I am putting myself into my doctors hands tomorrow morning and I know I will be ok. Here are some pics from my journey so far. I apologize for the pics that I took of myself today...my husband/photographer is not home right now and I do not own a decent full length mirror! A few days before Lapband surgery - March 2010 213 lbs. Day before Lapband removal/revision VSG - June 2011 160 lbs. Please wish me luck tomorrow!
  12. Thank you for your well wishes! I will keep you posted!

  14. Thank you both for your well wishes! @ Kelly - I have been following your journey and look forward to doing as well as you have! @ Ronda - I am glad to hear that you are doing well. Here's to your continued good health!
  15. I would caution about using Gallbladder surgery as an excuse as you may really need it out later on! Either say nothing or say something that wont come back to haunt you later. I am also very superstitious/paranoid and would never say what you are thinking about having a "benign mass" because my luck, I'd really get a mass and it wouldn't be benign!!!!
  16. When I had my lapband surgery last year, I only told my family what I was doing. At work, only because I had to say something, I told them I was having a hernia repaired. This worked out well becuase I was able to say I had to eat different while my stomach was healing. I am doing the same thing this go-round with my VSG. That dam hernia is back!
  17. Good luck tomorrow! I will be following you on Friday. I am having my own issues with the surgery but they are different than you. The reason is that I have a band now so I've been through the emotional aspect of it last year. I know I will be able to eat again so that is not the issue. I'm having anxiety over the actual surgery and healing process. If it wasnt for this board, I would really be a wreck! What a great group of people, right? We'll have to compare notes in the coming days....I will be thinking about you tomorrow.

    Food Funeral

I think its more normal than not but still not good. I am having my surgery on Friday and have refused to go down that path. I did it a year ago before I was banded and it wasn't worth it. I gained a few lbs that I than had to lose. Good luck with your surgery and I'll let you know how it goes with mine!

  21. Good luck ladies! I am this Friday! Lets meet up back here and compare notes!
  22. Friday is the day. To get a little food organized for the next couple of weeks, here is my blog post from today (jax0120.blogspot.com) The difference is that my mother cooks like this all the time. Me? not so much! In preparation of this Fridays surgery, I have been cooking up a storm in order to have meals ready to go for Steve. If you have been reading my blog for any length of time, you know that my husband eats to live while I live to eat! Yes, opposites do attract people! My nutrition requirements at surgery will be as follows: First 3 days: Clear liquids - Water, crystal light, broth, Jello, etc. Next 4 days: Full liquids - Protein drinks, SF pudding, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. Wk 2 through 4: pureed food So, as when I had my band surgery last year, I do not want to be worried about cooking while I am drinking so I have been making some meals for Steve and freezing them as I go. Yesterday I made a huge pot of sauce and I made a lasagna that I baked, let sit for a while until it got cold, than cut and placed on a baking sheet so it would freeze. Once frozen, I placed in FoodSaver bags and sucked and sealed! It is now in the freezer in individually wrapped packages just waiting for him to heat up! I also made a pot of chili that I portioned out for a few dinners. I will be able to eat this during the pureed stage as well. I also made 2 batches of brownies and a pound cake that I also cut up and packaged individually in packages and they are also in the freezer. While my husband may not be a big fan of food, he does love his desserts! I make him chocolate chip Cookies that I freeze and he will literally take 1, yes you read correct, 1 cookie out every night and have with his coffee. Who can eat just 1 cookie? My husband! Today I will be making eggplant parmesan and doing the same thing, baking, freezing and bagging. This is his favorite! I have also been thinking ahead for me as well for when I get to the pureed stage. Anytime I've made something that can be pureed, I have been doing just that and freezing it in ice cube trays. Each cube holds 1 oz which is perfect as I will only be able to eat 3-4 oz. at each meal. This is the most amazing thing for me about VSG. I will have restriction from day 1. There will be no "bandster hell" that we all experienced before our first fill. Nope, surgery, restriction, boom....done! It has been a very long time since I have had any type of meaningful restriction so I am really looking forward to that! My hopes are that a lot of the food that I've made for Steve will still be in the freezer when I go to NY in July. This way I can go visit the girls and not have to worry about him not eating. Seriously, I left him a lot of food in Jan. when I went to NY, he ate it for dinner every night and lost 10 lbs! Why? Well, that was all he ate! No Breakfast, no lunch! Without me around nagging, he didn't eat other than dinner. The dog gained weight though, not sure how that happened! These are the things I worry about when I leave...Steve losing and Brutus gaining! I'm thinking once I get past the first 2 weeks after surgery, I will be feeling up to cooking so I will be able to make things for us to eat. The fact that I will only be eating 2-3 oz. (in the beginning maybe not even) at a time should leave room for lots of leftovers to be frozen for Steve. Works for me!

    On the fence...

Welcome Leslie! congratulations on getting yourself and your children out of a bad situation! I'm kinda new here too but I have a band and its coming out on Friday! I am having revision surgery at the same time and I.Cannot.Wait. I had my band put in last year in March in Mexico. The hardest part was finding a doctor to take care of my after-care. I found the best doctor on the east coast of FL and he will be doing my surgery! I've lost most of the weight I need to lose with the band, 53 lbs, and have maybe another 15 to go. The problem is I've had so many fill/unfill issues. My body does not respond to a tight band. I have to take 90 % of credit for losing the weight. I am so determined and I've exercised and dieted my way down the scale but I've had enough and I know I need the help of the sleeve to get off the rest and mainly to keep it off! I hope your insurance covers your surgery and I hope you choose to revise to the sleeve. I am so excited to being part II of my journey.
