40 fr bougie and how are you losing?
Jax replied to MeMeMEEE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. also uses a 40fr Bougie and I was worried also. However, after researching it, there is minimal difference between a 32 and a 40. My doctor explained that the smaller the bougie, the more chance of complications such as strictures so that is why he uses what he does. I spoke to many of his patients and they have no problems with weightloss at all! That made me feel much better. I searched here also and basically came up with the same info. Size is minimal! I am only 1 week out from surgery so I'll keep you updated on my personal weightloss with the 40 fr bougie. -
I know this is a weird question but I just went to mushies and I'm not really sure what I am feeling. I am only having 2 oz of whatever and I don't really feel much different while eating than I do while drinking. However, I get towards the end of the 2 oz and start to feel a 'tightness'. Is this what I'm looking for? It doesnt hurt, just gets tighter. If I finish the 2 oz, like I did at dinner, I get a little flushed feeling. Is this normal? Another question: Will I find a big difference when I convert to solid Proteins? I think I am trying to compare the full feeling I used to get with my band to what I am feeling with the sleeve and its not even close. Thank you!

Great Job!

I will be one week out from surgery tomorrow. As of today, I am able to drink 16 oz of water in about 20 minutes, an 8 oz cup of tea in about 10 or so, protein drink in about 20 minutes. Liquids are going down much more easily today as compared to yesterday. I feel like the swelling has gone down quite a bit. I had some cottage cheese at lunch and that was gurgling A LOT. Definitely didn't go down as smooth as liquids. Tomorrow I start pureed...yay!!!!

On vacation and can't eat
Jax replied to gonnagetthere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not missing anything at Justines. Greasy southern food, that is all! You will be able to eat again but you have to let your tummy heal. I am 9 days out from surgery and I am on mushies. All docs are different. I went out to lunch the other day and asked for Soup, it was minestrone, and i asked them to put it through a blender for me. It was no problem. Maybe you can try that? -
Does anyone NOT know their weight?
Jax replied to Karelia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight X 11 = amt. of calories needed to maintain weight. Example: 150 lb person needs to eat 1,650 calories per day to maintain 150. -
180 g of carbs is sky high! My doc wants me to keep mine under 40 g. Protein is at least 60 g. he doesnt give me calories.

Pain in the lower left abdomen
Jax replied to former_vbg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a pain in that region, still do a little. I am 9 days out from surgery. I attest mine to the removal of my port (I had lap band revision to Sleeve surgery). -
I take Flintstones and B12 Bariatric Advantage chewables, I have no trouble even on an empty stomach.
-
That is a whole lot of peanut butter!
-
I have been gettiing my vitamin and B12 in since day 5 after surgery.
-
My surgery was 6/17 and I have not had that "hunger" feeling since than! I hope this is the real deal because I likey!
-
Weigh in today and I am down 8 lbs in my first week since revision surgery! Yay me! I never thought I'd be seeing 156 ever again on my scale but thats what it said! 16 lbs to goal and than maintenance....my band couldn't get me there but I just know my sleeve will! I feel great, moved to pureed today and I'll be on pureed for the next 3 weeks. I am getting about 48 oz of Water in not counting the other fluids in my Protein drinks, tea, etc. My doc says I am doing great. No pain at all and I am not hungry at all. I really thought that I would be one who still felt hunger but nothing. If this is a dream, I do not want to wake up!

21 week pregnancy update- Gender Announcement
Jax replied to Tiffykins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
So happy for you and your family! -
nope, not me!
-
So glad everything went well for you! I am 5 days out and only needed the pain meds once when I got home...no pain to speak of other than soreness when getting up as you described.
-
With the exception of having a headache that I can't get rid of, I really feel pretty good. Sore, yes, but not terribly so. I've only taken my pain meds twice and I've taken liquid Tylenol for the headache. I have not experienced hunger since the day before surgery! Yea! However, if I forget to eat, I start getting a growling tummy and I am like "oh yea, I have to eat!" I am very happy about that! I had a great lunch today....I make a cup of Liption Cup of Soup Cream of chicken and added a packet of unjury Chicken broth to it 21 g Protein and it is this side of very good! I could not eat the Unjury at first by it self but adding it to the soup is very good!

congrats! You look great!

I had my sleeve surgery on Friday and came home yesterday. Drinking wise yesterday, I think all i got in was 8 oz of water and a few sips of a protein drink. Today is quite another story. I had a protein drink for breakfast and another one for dinner.....480 calories and 73 grams of protein total! Pretty good. In addition, I am working on my second 16 oz. bottle of water. I may try a little cup of tea if I feel like it later. Gas pain is minimal at the most and the only discomfort, if you can call it that is the surgical site where my drain is....its the biggest one also. The drain comes out Wednesday! Feels like i did 1000 crunches. All in all, I am starting to feel much better. I think tomorrow will be even better. I've been walking a lot in the house but may take a walk with my dog tomorrow if I feel up to it.

1st full day home from hospital
Jax replied to Jax's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great point but my doctor has told me that the Water I use in my Protein drinks counts towards my daily minimum of 64 oz of water. that being said, I drank about 48 oz of water yesterday. Hydration is by far the most important part of these first few weeks but i do not want to go through the hair loss I had with my band so I am throwing protein into everything and anything! -
I am 3 days out and feel the same thing. Moreso with water than with a protein shake or my med which is thick. Makes no sense that water hurts but it does.

30 Days Since Sleeved
Jax replied to NewBeginnings's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Uh, yea....36 lbs in a month is awesome! -
My surgeon doesn't allow tomato's until 4 weeks out due to the acid. As long as it didn't bother you you should be ok.
-
I had surgery Friday and on Saturday I also had nausea but it did pass. I got home yesterday late afternoon and today i am feeling 100% better. Hang in there, it really does get better!

To tell or not to tell... that is the question
Jax replied to Jensharley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell only if you want to. It really isn't anyone's business. I only told family and a few close friends. I told others that I had an hiatal hernia and would be getting it repaired.
