  1. Mine was done May 11th and I was around your BMI. While I try to sip water all day I don't come close to enough water or protean (about 2, 10g shakes at the most). first couple weeks my pee was very dark (dehydration) so I had to force down some more water, I could not do that until the doc put me on Nexium to get rid of the heartburn. I will say that over just the last few days something has clicked, I ate a little bit of spaghetti sauce with hamburger last night with a small piece of bread and am drinking coffee right now (don't drink coffee if you're dehydrated), and had my first beer yesterday (don't drink beer if you're dehydrated). Energy was, and is, a problem, I love the Energy Strawberry Crystal light (has B12 in it). Bottom line is that it sounds like all of us have gone through different levels of what you are going through but most folks get through it after 1-2 months post op, some longer some shorter. Hang in there, void something like a leak or something that went wrong during surgery, it will get better.

    Is this normal?

I had it also. Doc said of the different surgery's the sleeve causes this more than the others. Nexium works best for me, I would favor a Protean Pump Inhibitor (PPI) like Nexium rather than the Tums or Rolaids. Before i got my prescription, I crushed up a Zantac and that provided some relief. I think the only OTC PPI is Prilosec.
  3. Bariatric Daiquiri.... about 5 Strawberry's, half a Banana, scope of Whey protean, scope of Splenda, fill with Ice and as much Bacardi as you can handle, blend till it's a drink! Protean with a buzz. Taste great. Who needs tropical Smoothie!

    Coffee and alcohol

I concur that most of the warnings from Docs have to do with dehydration, so drink water. I started on Coffee (half decaf half regular) as soon as I came home, no problems, just not able to drink my pot a day, but I do drink about 2 big cups in the morning and I'm only two weeks post op. My diet said Decaf with Splenda was fine and I cheated buy mixing the decaf with regular (just need to make sure you are hydrated) although they did say something about irritating the healing stomach for the first month it was healing with any caffeine. As for the Booze, well I had my fist scotch tonight. Couldn't finish it but it did taste good and did not cause any problems. In hindsight I didn't even get buzzed so it was a waste and would have been better off without it. Most of the post I've read from 9 month plusers say it's business as usual, you just can't tolerate as much. Looking forward to a beer, but know that there's just not much room down there for much of it anymore, so I'll go from a 6 pack plus, to nursing one or two, and I'm OK with that.
  5. I was on Nexium before (suffered from GERD for 20+ years), but the nexium controlled it. Doc said I wouldn't need it post op after the sleeve. After the first week Heartburn was terrible, I started with some TUMS and then finally I was crushing up Zantac and called the DOC to get my nexium refilled (still just on Water and Slim Fast, I'm two weeks post op yesterday). after I took it, the heartburn is right back under control. I don't think I'll ever live without the nexium. I'm a little disappointed that the surgery didn't solve my pre-op GERD but I'm OK with just taking the Nexium.
