My doctor is a crackhead? Please confirm...
Marimaru replied to Bensmum1109's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with what everyone said. He probably has the same rules for RNY that he does for the band and that just doesn't make much sense. And the exersize thing; Sure and hour a day 5 days a week would be great, but most people just can't do that. 30 minutes 3 days a week sure beats nothin' right?? I think you are doing great! -
Turtle Tribe Holiday NSV Challenge
Marimaru replied to vinesqueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hmmm, well, let's see what I can think of: I had a session with a personal trainer at the gym I joined, and when he asked what I'd been doing and I told him 35 minutes on the Elliptical, he told me I was ahead of the game because alot of folks go in there and can't do 10 minutes of cardio. There was a time when I was one of those people, so I think that's an NSV. I bought a shirt at Hot Topic the other day. Granted it's a 2X in girls which is kind of funny, because I have Large shirts that are bigger, but hey. It's a "girl's" shirt, so it's more form fitting and look pretty good. Oh! I went to Lane Bryant to get a shirt, and the smallest shirt size they had was too big. I could still buy pants there, but not shirts! I've been moving back toward my funkiness from my fun days. I used to dress exactly how I wanted at it was "me". Then I entered the corporate world and gave it all up, so now I'm getting it back! This goes along with caring what I look like when I go out. First I just wanted to look 'nice' or 'decent' and now I want to look like "me". If that makes any sense. -
Good idea Crystal! I'm going to do a ticker for my mini goal too. I have 15 more lbs to lose to get to my halfway point. At this rate I have NO idea, how long it will take me to get there, but we'll see I guess, huh?

This happened to me too. My last fill was in November. Long about April I started having PBing issues while eating the same things I'd been eating. In June I went in and had .3cc's of fluid removed. I've been fine since.

I think mine has definitely shrunk. I can tell this most when I eat soup, or something else that goes through the band. Even when I eat things like this now, I can't eat nearly the amount I used to be able to eat, and I can feel that it's in the main part of the stomach, not that my pouch is full. The same thing happens when I drink alot of water or something like that.

Let's see; Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey MX 7/2/04 280/225/140~160 I had no complications and no issues with the staff or anything like that for my surgery. I've lost 55 lbs to date, which still falls in the 30% to 50% suggested for the first year. Maybe not as quick as I would have liked, but it's better than up in any way right? The bypass certainly has a quick weight loss rate, but that surgery just wasn't for me. I'll need the most help when I get to goal keeping the weight off. -
I never had trouble with losing hair right after surgery, but at just about a year out I started losing, and when it happened I knew I wasn't getting enough protien. More than the hair, I'm interested in the Biotin for the nails. I'd never heard before today that it was good for that. Mine are SO brittle. I'll be pickin' some of that up!

Not everyone who has the bypass dumps on fat and sugar. Unfortunately, your friend doesn't seem to be making any effort to change her eating habits, and if she doesn't before her "window of opportunity" is up, it's likely that she'll quit losing, and/or start gaining. I know there are different sizes of pouches for the bypass, and not knowing what they are, or what your friend got this is only a guess, but it sure sounds to me like she can eat too much. The stomach is a stretchy thing, but it sounds awful fast for her to stretch her pouch out that much. Of course, I'm not all that well researched on the bypass. The research I did told me I didn't want it, and I kind of left it at that. I'm also not Wendy, but chimed in anyway

What kind of complications did you encounter with the band? No surgical complications. What kind of side effects do you deal with on a regular basis? PBing, but that only happens if I eat too fast, lol. What side effects did you have that went away with time? None. Would you do the operation again even with the problems encountered? yes, absolutely. Do a search on thread by donali, who had her band removed, and by DeLarla, who had her port removed. There's others, but those are the ones that stick out most in my mind. A girl named Erin recently had her port removed, but for the life of me I can't remember her screenname here.

I do not have reflux, but I've read of people who had it resolved by following a few rules; Things link not eating after 7 pm (or 3 hours or so before bedtime), drinking a big glass of water an hour after eating, and then not having any more fluid for the night. Basically, not much in the stomach when you go to bed. I've also heard it helps to raise the bed a little so you aren't laying flat. Hope you find some relief!

1)2cc's 2)9.75cm (4cc) Inamed 3)He always uses flouro 4).6cc's, and a few months later I had .3 removed. 5)Probably within 1 month of my first fill, but I didn't get it for 3 months.

I've had 2 dental surgeries (which aren't major, but they knock you out), and then I had a surgery where they drained an abcess near my tonsils (yuck). I also had tubes in my ears when I was a little little kid, which I slightly remember, which I think is probably why anesthesia doesn't scare me. Is it the anesthesia that is getting to you or something else?

I can not, not, NOT eat in the car. It gets me EVERY time. In fact, if I eat and get into the car too soon after, I usually get a little ill. Wierd stuff. I also do this thing where I take too big of a first bite and kind of screw everything up for the rest of the meal. I have to readjust everything after my fills. Just the way it works I s'pose.

I love how the idea that you are losing weight automatically means that there is something wrong with you, lol. I probably would have said "Actually, I'm healthier now, don'tcha think?" lol.

Wooooooooooo! That's fantastic! Congratulations!!

I can set my Tivo up to get it. I wont be able to watch it until tomorrow night, but I'll still have it for you. There... I just wrote it on my hand so I wouldn't forget.

Almost 5 mnths out & still learning
Marimaru replied to I'llsucceed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My biggest problem is taking a big FIRST BITE. You all know how the first bite can make or break the meal I'm sure, lol. I'm hungry, I take a BIG bite, and chew it to mush, but it's still too much to be swallowed at once, so I just sit there and wait like an idiot until it gets down. I hear you on the not having hot meals too. My sister joked she was going to get me a mini microwave for my desk at work. Whenever I go out, or eat at my mom's house, I try and have a bite or two of something about 30 minutes before the meal so that I can get by that first bite-itis thing. 15 months out, still learning here. I hope that I can get it to 'click' soon like La Madam did. Cuz I sure want my weight to start falling off!! lol. I'm so glad you got that unfill. It seems to be one of the hardest things for some bandsters. I was stubborn for a while, thinking I needed an unfill, but also thinking that thinking that was just self defeating thought, you know? Like I was just telling myself that I NEEDED an unfill when I really WANTED to eat more. 2 weeks on Soups got me to the doctors office, lol. So to go on and on, lol -
I'm not quick to blame my obesity on anything but myself. I was on Depo for 6 or 7 years and never thought it had caused me to gain weight. Apparently my mom tried to tell me at the time that it was, but I didn't listen, so I recently switched off of that. I'm the only person in my family that I know who's been as obese as I was. I've had cousin's who had trouble with their weight, but I doubt that they ever had BMI's over 35. I haven't been diagnosed with anything that contributes to obesity either, so I've basically come to the conclusion that eating was my rebellion (parents had me dieting young), and so that's why I'm fat. I'd probably be glad to hear that something else contributed and it wasn't ALL my fault, if you know what I mean, but at this point that's pretty much where it sits, lol

Kelly, I've heard of the 10cc/ml band having gone up to 13cc/ml when someone reached 10 and didn't have enough restriction. The doctor was in close contact with Inamed when it was done (it was an Inamed band, I don't know what brand you have), but it worked out fine. Also, there was someone on another forum that was worried about the same thing, and Inamed told her the 10cc band could easily go up to 13 without an issue. So there's even a little more room than you think. Although if your restriction goes down again over the next few weeks like it did with the last fill, maybe your doc should check for a leak?

I've been stuck for 2 months and joined a gym 3 weeks ago and now the stinkin scale is going up. I'm HOPING that I'm gaining some muscle and I'm on the verge of seeing the scale drop, but who knows. It is said though that if you do the same thing for a while and it's not doing any good, to change it up, even if that means eating more than normal for a few days or something. It's definitely strange, but hey, we'll take it, right?
