80lbs in 16mos and 70 more lbs to go

Hey there! I was banded in July of '04 and I've lost 60 lbs. Everyone loses at different rates for different reasons. In the Lap Band Support forum, there's a sticky thread for the "Slow Loser's Club", you might want to check it out. Basically it's for anyone who isn't losing at least a pound a week on average. You'll get there! It's just going to take a little longer than you'd hoped for (same with me ).

    Does anyone here Home School?

Ok, like Heather, I have the opinion of a homeschooled kid. I went to Christian Private school from k-half of 2nd grade. I was getting in trouble for goofing off in class, but all my work was done. They called my mom into complain about my behavior and she said "She's bored, give her harder work and challenge her", and the teacher (also the principal's wife) refused, so she pulled me and home schooled me the rest of 2nd grade and 3rd grade. I agree with Heather that it's good for kids to have the social part of school. My mom found a homeschool group, and we'd do fieldtrips and stuff with them. It was a long time ago, so I could be wrong, but when mom put me into public school for the 4th grade, I do not believe I had to take any tests or anything to prove what level I was at. I think I would have had a better education if my mom had continued to homeschool me, but since my dad's a deadbeat, she had to work.

My (not so) Secret Skinny Dream

I also didn't answer this one the first time around because I was stuck and it was starting to look like I'd never get there! lol. 1. I will walk into any normal sized store and know that if I see anything I like, they'll have one that fits me. 2. I will have an ENTIRE WARDROBE full of things that I only wear at home in front of my fiance. 3. HOPEFULLY, I'll get to goal in time to feel comfortable asking him to carry me over the threashold on our wedding night. 4. Not wear a large or extra large wet suit when I got scuba diving. And not wear more than 15 lbs of weight. 5. Truly know that if I stand out in a room, it has nothing to do with my size. I'll have to come up with more here...

    Cold Stone Creamery

It's really really yummy, but one look at the calories (which can be found on their website) and I haven't been back. Not to say I wont go back again, but it will DEFINATLY be something that is few and far between.
  8. I don't really have to crush my meds, but if I did, I supposed that would be on the list. Instead it's protien powders, lol.

    User Error????

I know there are a number of people on this forum alone who have lost their bands, who were completely complient, so I think it really just depends on the person. Some people are going to be prone to erosion, some aren't. There is speculation that port infections are indicative of erosion, and infection certainly isn't the fault of the band wearer. Sure, following the rules 100% will give you the best chance of keeping your band. It will also (in most cases) get you the farthest the fastest with your weight loss, so that even if you do lose your band (like La_Madam), you have that head start and can hopefully maintain your loss, if not lose more. I like thought provoking questions tho.

    Body in Starvation Mode

How much are you eating? What are your caloric goals? My theory is that you should eat as much as you can while still losing. That way, if you get stuck, you still have room for adjustment, you know? You definately need to be eating 3 meals a day, at the least. Many people do 5 or 6 smaller meals. If you can't eat in the morning, drink a protien shake, or at least a glass of milk or something. The way to beat 'starvation mode' is to basically eat enough that your body feels that it's safe to let go of some of it. IE; if you are eating 500 calories, do your best to go up to 1500, and then adjust from there to continue losing weight. The thing about starvation mode is that basically at some point, you will start losing weight, but it'll be in the form of lean muscle mass, not fat, and then when you start to eat more again, it'll go back into your muscles and your weight will go up (at least, to the best of my understanding).
  19. I have alot more energy now than I did when I was at my highest weight, and my house is cleaner too, lol. I agree with what other folks have said regarding maybe something else being wrong, but at the same time, I know the feeling of "I just don't want to clean my house".

    Is this my worst nightmare....YES!

Kellie, I'm sorry you are going through all that. If the reflux continues, you probably should have an unfill, but I don't think that you'll need to have your band removed. And if that doctor thinks you should, you can always get a second opinion. *hugs*

    Issues with menstration

Evidently having surgery messes with alot of women's cycles. I didn't have a cycle at the time because I was on depo, but I have heard of lots of people who had issues similar to yours. If it keeps going too much longer, you should probably call your gyno.

    New Salad Spritzers

They sound good to me. I was telling my fiancee about them, and he joked that "you could probably put any salad dressing that would spay in there and 10 sprays would be 10 calories"

    cereal binge eaters

I can't eat too much cereal and milk. If I want cereal, I do better with it dry, and I usually am good with a 'serving' of it.
