Amount of food to eat and how to weigh it..please help me pleasee
Marimaru replied to shauntil6266's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are weights for food, and there are lots of people who weigh their food. Other people go by "cups", ie; I eat 1 cup per meal, or 2 cups per meal, etc. I don't measure my food or weigh my food, other than to measure a 'serving' and that's only so I know how many calories I am getting. Things like chicken, I have to kind of guestimate, but they say that a 3 oz serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards, and frankly, that's close enough for me. Has your doctor given you any instruction on this? I know that lots of people get instructions on how to eat, or what their portion sizes should be from their doctor (but then some don't, just general guidelines like me). -
Call me silly...but what is Onederland?
Marimaru replied to Irish Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yup, onederland is the wonderful land of less than 200 lbs. I'm hoping to be there by August, but we'll see . Also, the century club is when you've lost 100 lbs. -
I'm not sure I have much advice to give. My mom didn't get support from my dad either and she had 3 of us. Does your ex have money you could sue for? Maybe if you could get an order for everything he owes up until now that would help a bit? I don't know exactly how that works with back support. I wish you luck with whatever you decide and hope it works out for the best!

Well, I can say that my younger sister did a number of drugs when she was a bit younger (she's 21 now, and clean). She was super thin and insanely moody throughout her teenagerhood. Since being clean, she's still moody, but not nearly so much (I think it's generally in her nature to an extent), and she put on a good 30 lbs. She's started losing the weight the old fashioned way, but has said for the last 3 years that she'd rather be fat than doing all the drugs that she'd been doing. I'm not trying to say your daughter is on drugs or anything, just sharing the signs that I know from my experience with my sister. My other sister also lost weight during a short period she was on drugs. I never did any, thank goodness!! But she could just be stressed, or having a high metabolism time in her life or something? Is she very active? By the way... I'm 24, and my mom worries about us as much as you are worrying about your daughter. A mom is a mom for life, I think whether you try to be or not.

You are either too tight, or you are eating things that your body can't tolerate that your current fill level. Alternately, you may need to eat slower and chew more than you were before. There is definately a learning curve with fills that increase restriction, but you should not PB after every meal (ideally, you shouldn't ever, but it's gonna happen). So, I would say to evaluate what you are eating, how fast, etc, and if none of that seems to be the problem, you definately need some of your fill removed.

that sounds interesting. What did you put on them? How long were they on the grill? My grandmother fries apples with cinnamon and suger. OMG it's SO good. Fortunately she doesn't live close, or I'd be fat, no matter what surgery I had!!

I don't smoke, and actually when I'm stressed or upset, and I can't eat, the thought of it just makes me sick. I want to eat when I am happy or bored, lol. After a really bad day I might want a drink, I try not to drink too often, less than once a week if I'm being really good. Other than that, I mostly just play on my computer, work on a drawing, or play video games. One of the best stress relief games out there is burnout 3 for the PS2. It's a car game, which I don't normally like, but the point of the game is to CRASH CARS. The bigger the crash, the more points you get.

Wow. do you have any malpractice resources out there? I'm not big on law suits, but if a doctor did something wrong and refused to fix it at his expense, I'd be all over that. I'm sorry you are in so much pain, and I hope that things work out for the best!

I think you need to be able to prove that the skin is a problem. Any time you have even the smallest rash in the area you want taken care of, take pictures, and go to your doctor so that it is documented. And it's also highly likely that insurance will deny it anyway, but you may be able to get approval on appeal.

I would say it has to be number 2. hehe. Or maybe "Wow, I wouldn't have thought you would qualify for WLS." Congrats!

There've been a good number of pregnant bansters on this board. If you can't eat much, they'll probably remove your fill, or enough of it that they fell that you will be able to eat enough for you and your child. Also, if they don't remove all of your fill at first, they can always remove the rest later if you start to have morning sickness issues, or they may give you something to calm the nausea. I researched this alot when I was thinking about getting banded, because I haven't had my kids yet either. The day before my surgery my doctor said to me "One of the greatest things about this surgery is that if you were to get pregnant tomorrow, it wouldn't be an issue."

I've never been THAT tight from flying, but I do tend to stick to liquids for a day after I fly, which is decently easy, because most places have some sort of Soup. Doesn't happen to everyone tho.

If I buy a new suit, it'll be a tankini. It'll cover everything, but I like having a 2 piece. If I don't buy one, I still have a cute halter top one that I got last year. :0

Is it worth it to wait for a fill?
Marimaru replied to danaclark2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think if someone is losing weight without a fill, they should ride it out, but if you aren't, I'm not sure there is any sense in waiting. -
Holy crap!! Congratulations!!!!!! Pictures please!!

Good Job!!

Sounds to me like you slimed, rather than PBing... it's the same thing really, but the slime is without the food. Usually for me when I slime, it seems like the effort put into getting the slime up, pushed the food down and I'm fine..... or something like that, I don't know. I believe that I have the 'first bite syndrome' thing, but it's not always the first 'bite'. Sometimes it's a few bites in. More bites in, if the bites are smaller. Sometimes it just needs to pass, and unfortunately sometimes it means the meal is over for the next hour. Maybe you could go to your surgeon and ask for like .2 to be taken out?

Husband says "I don't think you should get the band"
Marimaru replied to Constance's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, I think that if you want to give it one more shot dieting, it can't hurt. If you make it, great! and if not, the band will still be there. But for me, I found out about the band, did a bunch of research, and then had it done. I'd been yoyoing, and I knew I couldn't do it by myself, and I jumped at the first chance for "help". Pacemakers, hip replacements, screws, all sorts of stuff is implanted in people every day, and the lapband is just another thing on that list. If you needed one of the other things, I bet he wouldn't blink, huh? If you decide to have surgery, I hope that your husband will be behind you 100%. -
I only count my calories and my protien. Both of those things have been in good range for me, and I've been losing (after having been stuck for a LONG time). But you lost so fast initially, that your body may just need to take a moment and readjust. If you don't take bodily measurements, I recommend it, because so often I've seen folks that get stuck for a while after having dropped alot of weight, and they find that their body is changing shape all over the place, and then they start losing again. Good luck!

July 2, 2004; I weighed 280 lbs, wore size 22/24, didn't hardly move if I didn't have to, etc. May 15th, 2006; I weight 215, wear size 16 (soon to be 14), and I exersize 3 days a week in the morning before work. I didn't have any co-morbidities, but my blood pressure is still lower than it was, and now I don't fear going to the doctor and hearing that I've developed diabetes. I've lost slower than a good percentage of the people on this board, but I'm losing, and even when I'm 'stuck', I'm not gaining. I wouldn't be happy if I never lost another pound, but I'm still a success.

I wonder if guys come to boards like this and see that it's mostly women and get put off by it?

I found my fiancee online. He and I met on a forum similar to this one, but for a different topic. We were friends for a long time, before more feelings developed. We've been together for 4 years now. He admitted to me once that he would find me more attractive if I'd lost weight, but it didn't put him off. I don't have any advice on 'how' to find a guy like that. For me, it kind of happened when I resigned myself to the idea that I'd be alone for a while. *hugs*

Dear God, Plz hlp my Reeces addiction
Marimaru replied to mini_me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LOL Out here (Southern California) you can do this at albertsons.com and vons.com (vons is a Safeway brand). At Albertson's, you can pay $9.95 for delivery, or $5.95 for them to gather it for you so you can pick it up. It's really nice, and I do find it helps me not buy junk. I haven't done it much, but I can go throught he lists of things and decide what I want to buy, and then go through what it is in my 'cart' and prune out what I put in there that I really don't need, or isn't in my budget. -
Anything with high protien is going to do you better. Chili is good, or even just drink a protien drink before your meal or something. Even a glass of milk? Or have low calorie meals every couple of hours to stave off the hunger.
