Wow, I hope you are getting to feel a little better. I had an abcess on or near one of my tonsils, and they put me under anesthesia to drain it. They wouldn't take my poor swollen tonsils at the same time though. I haven't really had much of a problem with them since then, so I still have them. *hugs*

Of course you are absolutely right K@t, but I have no courage when it come to confrontation, lol. I hope to work on that.

I was gonna say to find a family doc, but you already said you were going to. Please let us know what you find out!

I buy bras at target for around 10 bux. Honestly, most of them have some flaw or other (cups don't fit quite right, back rolls up, etc), but I can't stand the price of good bras anymore, to not need them in a few months. When I get at or near goal, I'll spend some money on some good well fitting bras, but for now, I just can't make myself do it.

If my future husband and I are both working, we're both taking care of the kids and keeping the house. If I'm working, he's taking care of the kids (mostly) and keeping house, and if he's working and I'm not, I take care of the kids (mostly) and keep the house. It's a big red flag to me that he wants you to work, AND keep the house, AND take care of the kids. If you have to do all that, what do you need him for?? I know in my experience it can be hard to face this stuff when you really like the guy, but I really think this stuff is fundamental and important, and though some people can "make it work", I think that lots of couples who try to "make it work", both end up drained at the end.

Saul, I would recommend going back to your doctor for another unfill. It doesn't have to be much... .1, .2 or .3cc's can make a HUGE difference.

The band is supposed to restrict so that you can't over eat, or underchew, but if you can't eat a well chewed piece of moist meat without pain, you are going to turn to stuff that is easier to eat (who wants to be in pain 3 or more times a day??). My best recommendation to anyone on this is to talk to your fill doctor about 'sneaking up' on restriction. It takes a little longer to get there, but the chances of being over filled are so much slimmer.

How much should I really expect to lose?
Marimaru replied to Ready to Lose's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I got the band because a) I was scared of the more invasive procedures and possible side effects and I need to be held accountable for what I do. If I lost 100lbs with the RNY eating crap, I wouldn't have learned anything, and would probably one of the ones that gained back my weight. With the band, I have to work hard to lose, but I don't have to work hard to maintain. To me that is golden, because if I get stuck, or I am at a stressful time in my life, I can put weight loss on the back burner, and pick up right where I left off, instead of back up at my highest weight, or higher. -
Everything you have listed, other than sugar is all I watch for. I only really count calories and protien, although I do try to stay away from high carb stuff, and high fat stuff, I don't really count them. There is a nutritionist that you work with right? What does she say?

I was once told that if you are exersizing, you need to look at how your body is doing in three month cycles, because it can take up to 6 weeks to even see a difference. Exersize is essential for weight loss... but it's only part of the equation. Also, if you are weighing every day, you are bound to see lots of fluctuations, and that 3 lbs could very well be gone again tomorrow. I weigh myself more than once a week, but only one of those days "counts". I can weigh all I want, but the weight I am on Sunday, is my weight for the week.

Thank you for that great post! I think that lots of people see "less invasive" to equal "not major surgery" and that's just not the case. Any time you are under anesthesia is "Major" even if the procedure isn't much of anything. I myself bounced back quickly after surgery, and was running errands less than a week after, and then got tired all of a sudden and had to remind myself that it was major surgery and that even if I felt "fine" I needed to take it easy.

If cheetos are the only thing you can eat without pain, your adjustment was too much and you need to go to the doctor and have some removed. Being "too tight" sounds like a good idea, but all it does is lead people to eat the 'easy stuff', cheetos, ice cream, etc. CALL THE DOC!!

Totally blowing it on the supervised diet.
Marimaru replied to Constance's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I could be wrong about this, but it may actually be in your favor. I think the insurance company requires that diet as a 'last ditch effort' on your part to lose weight without surgery. If I'm wrong, and they are looking for compliance... then I really don't know what to tell you.. -
Well, opinions on this will vary, and there are threads on that clinic on this site with people's opinions (see the thread titled "Complications" in the complications forum). They aren't really supposed to fill the band at the time of the surgery, to the best of my knowledge. Sometimes they'll put enough in to 'prime' it, ie; fill the tubing so your first fill has a little more effect, but not enough to actually tighten the band. Post op diets vary greatly by doctor, but for the most part, people are eating solid foods at 6 weeks post op. It sounds to me like maybe you are having a few doubts. You might consider looking into other clinics/hospitals, and finding a place that you might feel more comfortable. Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey performed my surgery at the San Jose hospital there. I highly recommend him.

I don't know how someone screwed up the inches measurement in your pants, but I really really wish that womens clothing was sized that way. Yes, women would have to look at how many inches their waist was every time they wanted to buy a pair, but you could TELL someone what SIZE you are, and they could buy you a pair of pants in that size and have some reasonable expectation that they would fit! I have 2 pairs of 16's that I bought of the SAME BRAND of jeans, just a different cut. One fit, and the other I found out when I got home it was too small. Fortunately, I have resized myself to fit in them, and now thing that MAYBE if I went to the store I might find a pair of 14's that fit, but even if that's true, there are still 18's and 20's that "fit" and aren't to big. *SOB* Bras are no better.

Eyebrows sounds interesting to me, mostly because of what telly said with the plucking, lol. I had a coworker get the eyebrows and the eyeliner done. The eyeliner is supposed to be touched up every 2 years or something like that, and her eyes were swollen for a week, so I would never have that done. Also, I would think if you had lipliner done, you would always have to make sure you had lipstick on right?

Do you take off your shoes?
Marimaru replied to argon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'll certainly take my shoes off if I'm asked to, but I also don't want to be the only one who took my shoes off, so if I'm not asked, I leave them on until I see a sign it's "ok" to remove them. At home, I never wear shoes, but that doesn't mean anything regarding what anyone else has to do. At my grandparents' house, the kids always had to take off their shoes, probably because we weren't any good at making sure they were clean. My brother in law's parents usually want people to take off their shoes, but if they are having a party or a get together, they don't require it (unless it's muddy outside or something). -
Wow, there are some good comebacks in this thread! I hope you are feeling a bit better now Poodles! I've had the 'drive bys' plenty of times, but the worst was a few months ago. I was sitting outside my dentists office waiting for Mike (my fiance) to pick me up. This car pulled up and the kids in the back seat (maybe 8 and 10, maybe younger) started saying nasty things to me (hey you ****in' fat ass, etc), and the woman driving got out and just said "oh just ignore them" and went into a store. The entire 10 or 15 minutes she was in the store, they were yelling at me, saying worse and worse things (things I didn't know about when I was 10). I refused to even look at them. Finally I couldn't take it anymore and just "You guys need help". They left, and Mike showed up and he said "Hey, what's wrong??" and I just started bawling as I told him what happened. He was SO ANGRY!! Honestly, the only think that helped me feel better was to think about their probably futures. I too hope that I never piss Nykee off.

I've started reading when I do the recumbant bike at the gym. I make sure my blood pressure stays up, and reading helps the time pass, lol. I'm reading "Sister of the Dead", which is the 3rd book in the "Noble Dead" series, which is a book about a woman who is half human, half vampire, and her half elf (half human) friend. The first book is call Dhampir.

My fiance and I both work currently, but we kind of have an understanding. We both want to have jobs where we work from home, but he doesn't really know what he wants to do to accomplish that. We agreed that he would work until he figured that out, or until I was making enough money that we didn't need him to work. I do graphic design now, but I'd like to be able to get enough freelance work to do it from home and make more than enough money. He wants to build video games, but that really isn't a stay at home job. We haven't really talked about me being a stay at home mom, but since I want to work from home, it would kind of be both I guess. But I told him if I make more money than him, he has to do more housework, lol.

Misfortune (Miss Fortunate), Thank you for sharing your story. It's completely amazing to me. It's also amazing that the doctor who did that to you could be so uncaring. I mean, sure, mistakes can happen, and yes, they may not have been prepared for it, but beyond that, there is so much more they could do for you. I hope that you'll stick around so that we can help support you through your healing process and going forward.

Have you had any adjustments with your band yet? If you have, you may be too tight, PBing often is a sign of that. Other than that, you really just need to figure out what you can't eat, and how slow you have to eat the things that you can. I'm not sure it "just stops", but I'm almost 2 years out and the PB's are few and far between (and more often than not, because I was being stupid). Hope you feel better soon. Congrats on your great loss!

I like salt on my watermelon! I learned that from my mom The watermelon and grapejuice thing really does sound good. I saw a recipe for "Amaretto Watermelon" and thought that sounded good. I might have to buy a little melon and fill it with some amaretto just to check it out. hehe

Going back to the fruit, you could try blending up the fruits as a fruity smoothy. Those aren't bad if they are almost all fruit (if not all), you could add a little Water to thin it down, or even some fruit juice (100%). I don't really have any good snack ideas though..

Going for my second revision!!
Marimaru replied to MaryHag's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Mary, Is the band you have now, your original band? Maybe you should consider asking your doctor for a different band? There are a few types available, and maybe the type of band you have just isn't right for you? Good luck!
