Has WLS destroyed your marriage/relationship?
Marimaru replied to sophrosyne's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think that the relationships that are 'ruined' by weight loss surgery had something fundamentally wrong with them to begin with. Most of the time what I hear about those relationships is that someone is just fed up with being the way they are treated, and they've realized they don't have to 'settle' for it.. I went through a rough patch, where my fiance was insecure about my losing weight and then deciding to leave him, but we talked about it, and he got over it -
marys, since our surgery isn't malabsorbative (sp), our body doesn't adjust to it the same way. Our bodies can adjust to the decrease in calories, but that can be true even if you aren't banded and are just dieting. I'll be 3 years out in July. In December, I passed my halfway point. I don't lose steadily, and I don't have any noticeable pattern. I am at the point now, where it is what it is, and I'm alot better off now than I used to be, and I'm still on the way, you know? My wedding is in June. I have high hopes of losing at least one more size, 2 would be better, but I'm not going to beat myself up over it if I don't get there.

I think it's good that you are going to get yourself out of a bad situation. Keep us updated on how you are doing, and let us know if we can support you in any way.

NSAIDs question and I need your opinion
Marimaru replied to CCBSTX's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Personally (I'm not a doctor and I don't have any medical training), I have done rounds of Aleve for tendonitis. I am sure to drink lots of extra water with the medication, to be sure it's not sitting in my top pouch, and I don't stay on it for more than a couple of weeks, and I try to avoid other things that aren't good for the stomach. I have tendonitis in my wrist on and off and sometimes that's the only thing that seems to help.. -
I had one too, I also just clipped mine and the rest eventually went away.

It's really great to see both sides of the story, and I think it's really awesome, Sin, that you joined this board to find out more about your girlfriend's surgery! Hotpink, your original post struck something with me that I wanted to share. You say you are always putting everyone else first, and now is the time to put yourself first. I agree with you completely, but I've had a bit of a difficult time with this myself. I've had more arguments with people in my family since my surgery since I probably ever have. It's not that they aren't support (they are SUPER supportive), but on the one hand, I've never really stood up for myself, so I'm not that great at it and sometimes it doesn't come out right, and on the other hand, my family doesn't expect me to talk back!! I'm in a situation with one member of my family right now that is quite manipulative, and I thought he was trying to kind of start a fight, but my sister made me realize the other day that he doesn't expect a fight at all. He expects me to cave on the subject and not offer any resistance at all!! It's not going to end well, lol. I don't want you to think I'm telling you not to stand up for yourself, it's the opposite. I just want you to be ready for kind of a 'transition' period, because people aren't going to be expecting it, and it'll be hard to stay strong for youself! *hugs*

Would you do it again?
Marimaru replied to TerriDoodle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I absolutely would. -
When can you add back caffenie??
Marimaru replied to phlyinphebee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was never told to stay away from caffeine... it really is odd how directions vary so much.. -
what do I turn to now? Starting to feel low!
Marimaru replied to tinker0614's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
1. I'm in counceling to deal with the issues behind my eating. 2. I'm on antidepressants (which I needed before surgery...) 3. I crochet, draw, whatever, something time consuming that takes up my hands so they are busy. I can crochet for a good 2 hours or so before I realize how much time has passed. -
Mexico Surgery without Coordinator?
Marimaru replied to Kleigh830's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went to Dr. Rumbaut for my surgery, and also dealt only with his staff. If you google his name you'll come to his site on the surgery, and the contact goes directly to his staff, not a coordination office... -
Bread, rice, and Pasta are all notorious for causing trouble. There was a long period of time where I just couldn't eat any bread at all. I can eat some now, and some pasta and some rice. I try not to eat any of them too often, but bread is the most troublesome of the three. I would stick to meat and veggies for now..

If you are having trouble eating healthy foods, you are too tight. I know that seems backwards, since the junk goes down so easy, but the band is intended to limit the quantity of the foods we are supposed to be eating... we still have to actually choose the food that we put in our mouth, you know? That's a good portion of why I am a slow loser, I think. I think I'm a pretty slow loser anyway, but I'd have lost more by now if I had a little more control. :/

Yes, it helps a ton. Granted, I can still eat too many chips, but it's still not what it used to be. I haven't decided whether this is a good practice or not, but sometimes when I feel really out of control, I'll eat a few bites of bread, or something else that is going to just sit in my pouch for a long time and make me not able to eat... which helps in it's own way...

after hitting goal...
Marimaru replied to DerickM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I put "Never", but I agree with what Kat said... I don't even intend to have it removed, but whether I'm at goal or not, if the technology grows to where it would be better to have a newer model, I would probably upgrade. I really really like the idea of the remote control band! -
Anyone else ever broken a scale by stepping on it?
Marimaru replied to kyethra's topic in The Lounge
I never broke a scale, but when I was a teenager my mom bought a stair stepper used.. and the cord on it that made the whole thing work snapped when I was using it. I don't think it was entirely because of my weight, but damn... -
Tummy Tuck costs in San Diego or nearby???
Marimaru replied to tztmama's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
that's a bit much for a tummy tuck, even here in the states, from what I've read. There are a number of centers in Mexico that are highly recommended. There are centers in Costa Rica that will take care of you for the month after your surgery (if you can take the time off, obviously), though I don't know the cost for that. -
First of all, 5 months is roughly 20 weeks, so you are losing between 1 to 2 lbs per week, which IS average, so you SHOULD be pretty happy about that, I think. As for cooking, I realized I can't really either. I've gotten lots of marinades, and low calorie gravies, and usually I'll make up the gravy mix and put it in a pan, just covering some meat (beef/pork/chicken), and cook that in the oven at 350 for about 40 minutes. The sodium can get a bit high, but it's easy, and you can just do up a veggie, like green Beans to go on the side. Once I started doing that, I was cooking for my fiance and myself almost every night. It's been pretty cool for us too, because he'll come down and help with the veggie or other side dish.

I'm confused as to why needing to the large incision (open surgery) would mean he can't do the band? I have heard of them needing to do open surgery for whatever reason once they get in and can see things, but I haven't heard of the idea that they need to do open surgery means that you can't have a band at all... If I was told I could not have a lap bad, I would probably also opt for the sleeve, like was mentioned above.

I'm 2 and a half years out (closer to 3 at this point, I guess), and I'm still losing. I don't really think we have any kind of window, our surgery doesn't work that way..

We have 2 kitties: Azriel: Razzle, Razzle butt, Gravlor, The Gravinator, Gravel. Recently my fiance started calling her Raslan (like Aslan) Fuzzbutt: Fuzzle butt, Fuzzle, Fuzzy chicken, Chicken Butt, Stinky Butt etc. We call her Chicken, because my fiance used to call her things that rhymed (sort of) with Kitten; Chicken, Kitchen, Curtain... Chicken stuck for some reason. My sister has a cat named Patches (19lb Cat!!); Pooches, Tubby, Tubs, Patchy cat. Her cat "mamas" is often called "noodle" because you can pretty much do whatever you want to her, and she's a limp noodle. Everyone in my family who has animals calls them something else, except maybe my dad with his dogs.

I'd bet that stuff made with splenda (like Coke Zero n' stuff) is made with the pure kind, and not the kind that's cut with whatever.... Regarding the transfats; the hydrogenated oils do create it, but it depends on how it's used. Cooking with it, is what creates trans fat. Spreading margarine on your toast is fine, but baking with it is bad... etc... I hope that makes sense..

If you are PBing every day, I would say you probably need a slight unfill...

I've had a few abnormal paps that came up with different strains of HPV, basically both the low risk kind and the high risk kind. I've had to have 2 colposcopies, which from my understand is a pretty minor version of the LEEP procedure. My last 3 or so paps have come back normal. I will probably wait for the vaccine (I'm 24) for now until there is more information about it. I do think that eventually everyone should get it if it's as effective as it is supposed to be, because an infected mother can also pass HPV to their children during childbirth, from what I've read.

I'm not any more "sure" than anyone else, but I would think that a cough would only cause a slip, if it was pretty much on the verge of happening anyway...

Right now my biggest motivation is my wedding in June. I'm a little over halfway to goal now, I'll never make it all the way to goal in just 5 more months, but if I could get into a size 12 before then, I would be sooooooo thrilled....
