False hunger from acid
Carolyn replied to kellyw74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are times where I can't tell if I'm hungry or full...........makes no sense to someone who hasn't been sleeved. I just kinda time it. If I ate a while ago, then I know I'm really hungry. If I just walked away from the table a few minutes ago, I know it's just false hunger. I would try some of the low cal/low fat Snacks that you are able to eat right now just to satisfy the "hunger crave" or maybe drink more liquids. -
In regards to masturbation

call your dr and ask. -
Good morning friends! I was sleeved May 4th and very seldom suffered with acid reflux pe surgery. Dr repaired a hiatal hernia (didn't know I had until pre op test) and since then, I have to sleep sitting up because I get acid reflux so often. Is this normal? Will it go away? Not sure how to deal with this and don't have a drs appt until next Tuesday. This is the only drawback I've suffered from the surgery, so I'm counting myself very lucky!

Nope, you're not alone! There's plenty of company around you. I hit a stall on my 2 week and just now this morning lost a lb for the first time in a month long stall!!! Hang in there and don't get discouraged. I found that not getting on the scales each morning was a bit mental help. I would weigh only on my anniversary day of the surgery each week. Like everyone said when I posted in a panic weeks ago, my body is in a state of shock and will have to have time to recover from it. Once it realizes that this is an adjustment, it will start to respond by letting go of the weight. Good luck!!

Good things will begin happening for you tomorrow!! You're forum friends will be with you in spirit and prayers!!

stall after 3 weeks!!!!! ugh!!!
Carolyn replied to livinglifelikeitsgolden's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I too stalled at 3 weeks........and going on my 3rd week on no loss! I just weigh now once a week, on my anniversary day because it was certainly discouraging to get on the scales and nothing was moving. And if you are vomiting, my guess it's both, eating too fast and too much. Chew slowly, put your utensil down afer each bite. And don't drink!!! Good luck! Those scales will move again for us!! -
How do I know if I'm full?
Carolyn replied to HelloKitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also had a hard time (sleeved 5/4) knowing if I was still hungry and sometimes still do. But, I have learned when I hiccup, that's my body's signal to stop!! Not another bite or I will regret it. I haven't found out exactly what would happen if I did take another bite............I learned from other's experience from this signal!!! -
i just came back from my pcp and she had me take another blood test for my thyroid. She said my thyroid meds may need to be upped since the surgery............if I recall correctly it was because we don't have enough acid to totally disolve the meds and therefore we're not getting enough..............darn, that's why my hubby tends to go with me each time I go to Dr. I can't remember what all she tells me!!

I was sleeved May 4th, lost 10 lbs the 1st week, nothing, and I mean NOTHING since then. I read all about stalling, expected it, but never did I expect it to start so soon and last so long. Almost 4 weeks long..............very discouraging. My clothes are getting bigger, but the scales just won't move lower. I eat about 500-600 calories daily, walk and I have a 2 story house so I'm going up and down stairs at least 50 times daily. No Water retention, haven't put a sweet thing in my mouth nor any fried foods. I go to Dr this Thurs and I am really dreading to get on scales. I will be so embarrassed to face him and not sure what I will say. I just hope and pray I don't make a fool of myself and start crying!!!! The good news is I'm off 6 of my 12 prescriptions!!

Another stall??? 6wks out
Carolyn replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sleeve is like a marriage............peaks and valleys! We need to remember when we're in the valley, that there will be another peak for us!! Hang in there, I'm doing the same thing and it is very frustrating!!!!!! -
1 month Post-Op with 35 lbs. lost.
Carolyn replied to Husky2Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well, my honeymoon ended almost before it got started! I lost 10 lbs the firs 2 weeks, then hit a brick wall!!! I've not moved the scales at all since then. Of course, at least I've not gained like some poor souls have done. I'll keep my head up and hope to break this stall soon............it's totally maddening!!! -
What I had for Lunch

Discouraged and disappointed
Carolyn replied to apple-saucy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm totally jealous of you.............in a good way!! Clothes are fitting better, shoes are comfy and weight is creeping off! I've been in a stall for 3 weeks now and about to lose my mind (of course, I probably can't even lose THAT either! ) -
Why must I finish it? WHY????
Carolyn replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think I've cleared my plate yet.............but I'm only 3 weeks post surgery. I eat until I hiccup. then, regardless if I feel full or not, I stop eating. I've read on many posts that this was the warning sign...... the body telling you that "hey, no more room, or else". I don't want to have the pain that some has described, so I learned early!! And in my generation, it was kids in Korea! I think I told my kids they were in Viet Nam!! -
well, gotta say this is nasty!!!!!!!
Carolyn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I woke up this morning to a site I never envisioned!! Did my normal hygiene, brushed, scraped my tongue. Hmmmm. it's sure looks funny...........black and moldy........ I brush and scrape again. Same results. Then I think, oh yea, I had a cough drop during the night. Musta been grape flavored. Went on my business, did some shopping, clean house, etc. I take a check at my tongue again this afternoon................jeez, that black stuff is still on my tongue. Musta been a really strong cough drop. Then, it hits me.............I dont use fruit flavord cough drops, I use menthyol.......clear, no color!!!!!!! I did a search for "black tongue" and came up with this: http://www.webmd.com...ck-hairy-tongue using antibiotics (which may disrupt the normal balance of bacteria in the mouth) (I had sore throat and was using them being dehydrated (trying my best to keep this from happening) and not eating enough roughage (ya think???. So, to sum it up..........it's harmless and painless, but dang, it sure is ugly!! I hope I didn't open my mouth too big today and have someone catching a view of this event in my mouth!!! this is what it looks like -

Surgery in the Morning!
Carolyn replied to LadyVelvet's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
good luck to all three of you! I hope the surgery goes well and you are all up and about soon!! Carolyn -
A big Texas howdy to all my fellow vsg buddies! I'd like to introduce myself.........my name is Carolyn, 59 yrs, married to David and have 2 daughters, Sherry, and Stacey. We also have 2 grandchildren, almost 3 and almost 1. We live in Katy, TX, a beautiful sub on west side Houston. Here's my life as a "skinny" and how it progessed to a "fatty". During my vibrant teen years, I had an overweight sister who tried and tried many diets. Of course, as most of us can predict, she failed at each one. I told her one day "all you have to do is stop eating". How insensitive and ignorant I was!! She finally had an gastric bypass in 1974, when I was less than a month pregnant with my firstborn. My skinny life continued, even after giving birth. I was in great shape and lost the baby fat quickly. Same with my second pregnancy. Time sped by as I fattened up quickly. I was now in my early 40's and it seems like I went to bed thin one day and woke up obese. Gone were the days of volleyball and raquetball. Medicine instead took the place of my sports. The only exercise I was able to do now was bend my arm to eat, drink or take my list of meds. What a vicious circle.......because of my weight gain, I had to take 4 different meds to lower blood pressure, which then caused more weight gain. I also took 3 meds for my type 2 diabetes, then more for my high blood pressure, reflux, cholesterol, heart arrhythmia, and thyroid. Impressive list, right? I remember when I told my sister "all you have to do is quit eating". Words to haunt me! I did just that, I stopped eating, along with my stopping my metabolism. I did that for many years, without seeing any results, other than being exhausted each day that I got out of bed. Okay, so let's diet! Atkins, it worked...........for 3 months. South Beach, it worked..........for about 2 months, slim fast, diet pills, Weight Watches, Jenny Craig, Quick Weight Loss.............I tried them without lasting results. Last September, 2010, I saw my ex-husband's wife at our grandson's birthday party (yes, we are all on great friendly terms:) ). She had just had the VSL done a few weeks previous and she was sharing it all with me. We talked for a long time and I told her then that if this Quick Weight Loss didn't do the trick then I was definitely going to consider having that done also. I went in to see my pcp in early March to get some Patches for our upcoming cruise. Her nurse, Jody, came into the room and Lordy be, that woman looked good!!! We talked and she shared with me about her bariatric surgery. I asked her every question I could think of and she answered them as completely honestly and open as she could. My pcp came in and I told her how good Jody looked. She then suggested to me to consider it also, since I was on so many meds and my health was going downhill (my words, not hers!). That brings me here. I had my VSG surgery last Wed, and came home the following Friday. I went in for my first appt this afternoon. I actually had a panic attack while I was getting ready because I thought, what if I haven't lost weight, what if I've been eating too much, what if he left too much stomach, what if I, what if I, what if !!! My knees were shaking!!! I arrived with hubby in tow, (he's been such a wonderful support partner) and it was time to get on the dreaded scales, # 1 enemy to all of us "fatties". 10 lbs.............I lost 10 lbs in a week!!! Plus, I'm off 2 of my blood pressure meds, 1 diabetes meds, my reflux med and he wants me to talk to my pcp about the rest of the meds I'm on!!!! Results already!!! I'll be on a full liquid diet for another week, then moving on to the soft pureed foods, then slowly progressing forward. This will be a lifechange for me. I thank God I have such a wonderful bariatric dr and staff at hand, ready to answer any question I have. And like I said, my hubby has been the best............he's been there each step, each test, each day at the dr's office with me. Encouragement, support and love..............better than hamburger and french fries any day!!! I'm eager to walk these steps with each of you. I hope to get to know each of you, feel your pain, share your triumphs and let's cross the finish line together!!!

She did lose alot of weight, about 150 lbs! Back in the "old days' it was considered major surgery. Her incision was from her breastbone to just below the naval and a week in the hosptial! Things have changed, haven't they? -
This is CRAZY!!!! Houston is a major city!!!
Carolyn replied to Husky2Healthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in Katy and know there's a support group at our local Memorial Hermann hospital, and also one at the Memorial Hermann at Memorial City (where I had my surgery) I would assume every Memorial Hermann has one and you are welcome to attend even if you didn't have your surgery there. Has your dr advised you of any? I'd call his office and speak with the case supervisor who worked with you pre surgery. They should have given you all this info pre surgery. Good luck!!!
