Any Texas Gastric Sleeve Buddies?
LissyinTX replied to w2ben's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
8 months post op in Southeast Fort Worth here. Would love someone close to to either workout, or just talk to. -
Thanks Blackanese25, I appreciate it. Ms. C, I am sorry to hear about the slow loss. I felt the same way when I was going into my check-up/follow-up, to the point that I was freaking out and annoying my coworkers. Keep your thoughts positive. If you need to talk to another nutritionist, go for it. I have also heard that sometimes the sleeve is the first step for some people that are heavily obese. They then go on to have a bypass to help the weight loss go even further. I know that isn't what a lot of people want, but it is an option I had heard about. Keep up with the support groups too. I am here to talk to too, since I feel like I am not losing anything.

Getting my husband on board!
LissyinTX replied to natasha3821's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have to agree with the last two posts. My hubby was sort of against the surgery, but he was afraid that something would happen to me. He was afraid of what could happen, if I would be hurt worse, etc. He even went to call my mom and asked her to talk me out of it. What he didn't realize was that my mom was behind me because she knew the troubles I have had. He finally learned that things were going to happen with or without his support. He took a while and has lately been my support system. I am 8 months post surgery and have been struggling with my depression and the hubby has been a great support. All I can say is, talk to him. Take him to the dr's, the meetings, etc. Involve him in it so that he sees this is what you need to do. Have your family talk with him about family health history, etc. -
I was inspired by Vanishing Vixen to go through pics I had.... So I thought I would add some of the ones I had. She is totally right, pics are great reinforcers. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/gallery/album/1393-throughout-the-year/ I added those. I hope I don't embarrass myself too much.

Will Slow Losers Get To Goal?
LissyinTX replied to juzmejnee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I am at the same state you are in. I had my surgery at the same time you did, mid-May. I am losing veeeerrrryyyy slowly. I look at it like this, I may be slow, but I don't have the excess skin and my doctor was happy with everything at the 6 month period. I hate that I am slow, but I have to keep reminding myself that any weight off is better than any on. I stall for a while, but the clothes fit better, to the point I can go "shopping" in my mom's closet. I am at her size. At the same time my hubby, who weighs a paltry 125 wet, put on a pair of pants and they were mine. They were slightly too big versus him being able to fit two of him in them. I keep reminding myself slow is ok. It is better to do it in a healthy way versus doing a total dump of weight and then having health issues afterwards. Thanks to those that gave suggestions, I needed those. -

Depression After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
LissyinTX replied to Bob_350lbs's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for posting. I have found that my Bi-Polar has started being affected recently, even though I am 8 months post surgery. I feel like I should be losing more and have been going from bouncing around with a ton of energy to having none and being totally way down. This is all on top of meds that I have been on for years. I first thought it was stress of everything, but now I am worried. -
I had my surgery back in March and have lost around 30 lbs since then. However, since the beginning of my weight loss experience, I have lost around 60lbs. I have gone from a size 22-24 to a 14. My doctor was happy with me when I saw her in November, as I am losing weight evenly. I don't have excess skin, except for around the belly. Am I expecting too much that I feel I should have lost more by now? I seem to go through period of loss, then i balance out and lose the inches and the skin shrinks. According to my goals, I am about 35-45lbs away. My mom and I had a laugh when I saw her at Christmas time when she told me she started losing weight after I had the surgery instead of me. Any suggestions? Should I let it go, as it still seems to be working for me, although slow? Thanks

A GOOD protein Powder
LissyinTX replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats Michelle on finding that protein. i tried it before hand and i had to return it. I know everyone is different, but I figured if I get sick before, I might get sick after. I found that I like the Muscle Milk light, Chocolate Mint. I love the flavor, and 2 scoops for me is 32g of protein. I want to try some of the other flavors and will do so soon. I think it is cool that GNC will do samples for people. -
My hubbie hates me, lmao
LissyinTX replied to LissyinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know from reading all of these posts that everyone is different. I tried soft foods yesterday and still feel ok. I wake up this morning and feel like can eat again, but I am going cautiously with a protein shake. I know that my sleeve is one of the best things that has happened to me and I am not going to ruin it. I feel that a person, more so than a doctor knows how they feel. A doctor knows partly what is best, but we know too. My doc said I could, yesterday felt great, texture wise. But I know not to push it. -

LissyinTX replied to LissyinTX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really can't tell you how she made the choice. I have been doing pretty good on what I have tried though. Let me tell you my stomach, and taste buds, don't have any complaints. But your moving of liquids to soft is like mine. In about 2 weeks I move onto solids. I guess as long as I feel good and all is well, she knows what she is doing. -
Heads up!! You will do great. Go in high, come out high...and no I don't mean that kinda high. I meant enthusiasm. You know the sleeve works and you are using it the way it needs to be. Congrats on whatever weight you have lost!

Ok, so I had my 2-week follow up, after 8 days because dr is going out of town. She asks how I've been doing. Told her I was great just missing the texture of foods. So what does she say? She told me I can go onto the mushie/soft food stage. After 8 days!! Her reasoning is that the only reason we go onto liquids is because we need to heal. Well, I have, she is happy, and the chicken salad I ate about 7 bites of was good except for the abundance of onions. Well, with the diet switch, I had to drag the hubby to the store to get some acceptable foods. (I couldn't keep them in the house without eating them, yes I am weak willed ) Anyway, today is payday, we went to the store for our month of groceries, saved around 150$, and forgot my card at home. I had to use the hubbies. Now, I am sitting at home telling myself that I can have this or that for dinner, yet i am not hungry. I did notice, when walking around wal-mart there is a lot of nasty, fatty foods out there. I never saw it because i was buying it. Once I had to be more aware of it, I saw how much junk everyone is eating. Oh, and I officially through the dr. lost 12 lbs the first 8 days, happy dance, lol. She was blown away with that number and the fact that the only pain i have can be controlled with tylenol and that is only at night or when I first get up. I am healing great, just itch. She also explained what the funny thing on my belly is, it's the muscle that doesn't line up where it does when I am all bloated. Plus it is where the stomach part came out... Ok, I have shared it all. I guess I will stop talking now. Have a great Memorial Day!!!!
