    Negative WLS peers

I say ignore them. i have a friend at work who I talk to on a daily basis. She had the bypass almost 3 years ago and has lost 100lbs and has kept it off. She gives me support as well as suggestions for my eating patterns adn for getting my hubby to accept that I am having the surgery. There is also someone who had the band at the school I work in. She had the surgery right before school started. In all honesty, you can't tell that she had it at all. I have lost more weight than she has and all I did was watch my food intake. My suggestion is to ignore the negative. if you feel that you want this surgery, that it will work for you... go for it. This is your body, your choice. Be honest with your doctor and yourself. Go into it saying I will heal amazing, I will do amazing and I will look and feel amazing!
  2. Good luck on your day!! What is the test you guys are talking about that tastes like chalk? I have my surgery on the 19th and haven't heard anything about that test.
  3. I started reading the stories on here recently. I have hit the two week mark, got all of my pre-op work taken care of this morning. I wanted to say thanks and good job to everybody. The stories you guys tell about your losses, the tips on diets, etc has all been really helpful for me. I am ready to "get 'er done"!
  4. Cool deal. i hope it all works out for you in the end.
  5. What VA clinic did you go through? I am scheduled for the surgery on the 19th in Dallas

    Pre-op diet

Thanks. I think that might be why I might not have to do the diet. I will find out more tomorrow at the pre-op. I have lost weight, and all since July, mainly in the last few months. The VA requires 5-10% body weight loss and kept off for the surgery otherwise they start you over again. The surgeon's reasoning was that I had already lost weight and was doing good because I am still losing. I have lost an additional 5lbs since I saw her in February. I am just curious.
  7. I keep seeing people talking about a liquid diet for a certain amount of time prior to the surgery. When I went to the doctor to get the final approval and to meet the surgeon, I asked about the liquid diet. I asked her if it was necessary. She told me that I could if I wanted to, but to just make sure I don't eat anything a certain number of hours before hand. What is the purpose of the prediet? What are suggestions because I have tried some of the protein shakes adn have found I can't digest them. They give me really bad gas or diarrhea. Because of being lactose intolerant, even with lactaid, I cant do slimfast. any help would be great.
  8. I have the same insurance. I recently got the book with all of the info if I wanted to change my plans. I wish you luck with everything and the insurance. I am going through the VA, but a friend went through BCBS TRS and she had to do the 6 month consecutive and a mental eval. I would do more research on what the costs are, I thought I read it would end up being around 8 after all copays etc.

    Liquid diet crisis

I was told ahead of time to try and find some protein shakes, and have tried a few. I have severe lactose intolerance and am having some problems with whey. At the Sprouts market here in town, I found a bottle of what I thought was milk, but it was a protein shake. It was made by one of the national milk companies, Shamrock Farms or something like that. If you like milk, it is really good. They have vanilla, chocolate and I want to say strawberry too. They don't have any weird aftertaste and to me taste great. I have had the chocolate and thought it was true chocolate milk. I didn't get sick, either. The bottle said it had 20 grams of protein, so I plan on getting more. I hope you find something you like.

    Hi there!

Hi! My name is Lissy, and I am overweight......lol, thought I could start out funny. I am in a waiting pattern right now because I am awaiting my surgery date and am getting antsy. I am scheduled to go in on May 19th and can not wait for the day to get here faster. I have been battling the weight I put on over a 10 year period. I put most of the weight on in a 2 year period and can't get rid of it. I have tried to lose the weight naturally but can't keep it off. i recently married my second husband and he is against the surgery. He thinks that I could lose the weight if I tried. He doesn't understand the weight difficulties, but then again he is 130 lbs and is trying to gain weight. I came on here because it looks like a great site for help and support both before and after the surgery. I am hoping to get insight into what it is I am doing. Off topic, how can I get those nifty weight trackers? Thanks in advance for your thoughts, support and help.
