I am having the surgery through the V.A. Being listed as disabled, I get all my medical free. I found out they do WLS and started the process in October. It is finally happening on Thursday and can't wait!!! I want to go back to school in the Fall and be a totally different person. i know I will be. I think, or at least hope that I will have changes and have to wear dresses the last week that I go back to school after the surgery. I get to end the year with one week of work post surgery. Timing is great! lol Oh and I voted for you already. Got to do it again. i wish you luck with the contest!

I'm excited because it is the first time in a large since my son was born 11 years ago. These shirts are also known to run small and shrink after washing. I held up the 2X and it looked like a nightgown. I told hubby all my spirit shirts for work are now nightgowns or lounge around the house shirts. I feel like I swim in them.

High Protein Diet = Diarrhea?
LissyinTX replied to Kassie B.'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would have to go against what everyone else says and respond with a yes to you. i have a hard time with the protein shakes because it leads to bad gas and diarrhea. I think for me though, I have an allergy to the soy and to lactose so I am trying new proteins. If that is the only part of the diet that you have changed, it could be it. -

What has been the most shocking comment about the sleeve at any stage (pre-op, post-op) or about your weight loss?
LissyinTX replied to Becca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can understand people's fears about going to mexico for surgery, as well as the side of the person who goes. My mom had major gastric/pancreatic surgery in Venezuela in 93. She had no choice to come back to the states, it had to be done. She went through a brand new surgery with flying colors. Recently she went to her dr here in DFW area and was told to stop trying to lose those 10 lbs. She wasn't supposed to be alive, so stop trying. It turns out the scary surgery she had overseas was only supposed to last 5 yrs at most. Seeing as it is almost 20 yrs past her surgery, i would have no qualms going overseas or out of country. I just went this way because it is nothing out of pocket for me. Plus I get re constructive surgery if I need it too. I say we iggie the people who feel we can do this if we follow their path, and go our own course.... it's more fun anyway. -
A friend of mine who had the bypass a few years ago swears in the MiO. I might just have to go get one. She loves it and you are the 2nd on to mention it to me. Thanks!

So the sleeve makes you CRAZY???
LissyinTX replied to kids05's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, I haven't even had mine, it's scheduled for the 19th, and am already planning shopping trips into my mom's closet. She is a size 12-14 clothes horse and wouldn't know something was gone. She has started for me too. She has a pair of pants size 8/10 she said I could have because they don't fit her. Here i am in a size 20. Nah.... we aren't crazy, just ready. -
Congrats! and welcome to the community. I am relatively new here too, and just jay jump on it, all are welcome, lol

Coolio, thanks everyone. I have been going over everything. I had taken myself off of everything to drink except water with some tea thrown in back in October, but I don't want to solely rely on water afterwards.

thanks! I will look into that. I have never had a problem with gatorade, so it is def an idea.

Am I lucky told I didn't need a PRE-OPT diets
LissyinTX replied to Guitrman's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Here is my question. When people talk about a pre-op diet, do you mean a general diet to lose some of the weight or a full liquid diet? I had to go through a diet/weight management/nutrition class and lose 10% of my body weight. I don't have to do anything beyond that except for nothing after midnight the night before -

Heather, My hubby was like that too. He wouldn't talk about it, he refused to listen. He even went as far as calling me when I was at my mothers and had me hand the phone to her. He tried to get her to talk me out of having it done. My mom surprised him and told him that she would not talk me out of it since she was for it to be done. it took a while and a lot of talking, and it turns out he was/is scared. He wasn't afraid I would leave him for bigger and better things, but that he doesn't want to see me sick. I am glad he was able to get his fears out early. -
What is going on with the friends deal? I approve a friend and then they aren't there anymore.

It's the same way when a person hears that you are even thinking of having the surgery. I am not known at times for keeping my mouth shut and have told people that yes i am having it done. I don't see a need to hide anything from people. They are all seeing me lose the weight anyway. I keep having people I work with come up and tell me that I look great. After such a wonderful comment, they will turn around and tell me that I don't need to do anything else, surgery wise. These people look at me and see someone who is proportionate. I look ok, just big. They don't realize how big I am, I just hide it well. Why do skinny people think that losing the weight, and keeping it off, is the easiest thing to do? No one believes me when I tell them i will gain it all back by the time we return to work in August without some kind of help? I am not going to go by what they think, I am doing this for me. I don't want to lose my life because I am afraid to do anything to make it better. -

The Saggy Baggy Elephant and other Little Golden Stories
LissyinTX replied to ranchersdaughter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol, I am not laughing at what you are asking about, but more at the word use. Being a first grade teacher, I love silly little word plays like that. I am afraid of having skin in excess like that. I say keep going with it. it has been 3.5 weeks since you had surgery. The skin is elastic and should go back down. I have been lucky with what weight I have lost since I started all this. I stall, so to speak, but my body is settling everything. You might see it one day, but the next you will notice that the stretch marks are getting thinner and going away.....always the best part. Keep your chin up, lol, use tape if you need to, everything will work the way it is supposed to. -
My Thoughts on My Upcoming Surgery
LissyinTX replied to SusanSleevey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have surgery scheduled for the 19th of May also. I don't think your fears should let you stop everything. It would not be normal to go into something like this without fears. I am nervous and excited. i am afraid, yet positive. If you go into the surgery saying I will come out of everything and it will be the way I want it to be (positive ), you will do it. I was talking with my mom earlier today, and she is at a size 14 right now and I am a size 20-22. I would love to be her size, and actually plan to go smaller. We were talking about me being able to "go shopping in her closet" when I go back to work in August. We had to laugh because I haven't been able to wear her clothes since I was 12. Anyway, look at the surgery and the results in a positive manner instead of one in fear. If you go in afraid, it will whip your a**. You want to come out the winner! If you need other support or want to talk with someone at the same waiting point as yourself, chat with me. i am still trying to reconcile that i will be having the surgery in 2 weeks. I think I am looking at it as a break before school lets out for the summer and I have teh time off again. I just love summers!!! -
Everyone seems to weigh so often.
LissyinTX replied to Griselda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I use teh scale in the nurse's office every day after lunch, minus shoes. It is bad, but one of the requirements for the surgery the VA gives is to be at a certain weight, usually 5% lost. I watch to make sure I stay where I need to be. If I lose, great, if not oh well. As long as I don't add to. Plus I like watching the numbers go down for the first time in over 6 years. I know I am getting smaller because I am down to almost no work clothes that fit. My body seems to be staying proportionate, luckily enough. -

Dink this... it doesnt taste like chalk.......Really!
LissyinTX replied to Michelle Cicerello's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, cool thanks. yep, haven't had that done. i know they will do the leak test, but that is all I have heard. All I did for the pre-op was to become a pin cushion that moves on command. I also got some nifty soap to use for three days leading up to the surgery. -
I have a quick question. I am schedules for the 19th. I went to my mental health provider today, I am bipolar, and she changed meds on me. She also said that she has to check for the absorption rate. Has anyone ever had problems with the absorption rate being different? Do you think I might get a med change again after the surgery? I'm nervous about that because I finally have the bipolar basically calmed down and steady. i don't want to have to keep changing my meds.
