  1. I am new to the 5:2 group and haven't even started it yet. I actually started Monday being really strict on low carbs/ increasing my protein, water water water & logging along with excercise(yes I know...all the things I should have been doing all along;) ...and when i weighed tonight so far have lost 4.5lbs since Monday ...so i may stick with this and see where it takes me for a bit and see if my loss continues to be good for a while...but i definitely see 5:2 in my future...was wanting some feedback from y'all as to how long you've been doing 5:2 and how much weight loss you have seen thus far with it? Are you exercising as you do it? How much fluid intake are you taking in especially on the fast days? Thanks for the info!

    New member introductions

Hello thanks for the add...A little about myself...I have posted some but not in a long time on this site...trying to come back here for more accountability..i had sleeve surgery in march 2011...things went great for me, i lost a little over 100lbs in less than 7 months was still loosing but it slowed down considerably... i still had about 30lbs to go...well in oct 2011 i tore my meniscus and had to have some other repairs done to my knee, rehab/recovery went well and the doc thought I should go ahead and have other one done so in December another knee surgery got thru that ok but just wasn't feeling good, was struggling with pain in my back and just felt off & was tired all the time... i visited chiropractor several times...he told me I needed to go to dr and have more extensive tests done, so in July of 2012 I did and come to find out had a cyst on my ovary, they went into remove cyst but ovary was not salvageable so they took it out...so long story short since march of 11 to July of 12 I had 4 surgeries and I think they have taken their toll on my body:/. From dec11-July12 I only lost like 6lbs...but hey it was a loss:) in July of last year I felt i just needed a break and i stepped back from eating right and logging, and weighing regularly(big mistake)...well a month turned into about 7months and with that came a 20lb regain:/...I have been working to get back on track and will do well for 3 days then BAM life gets in the way. I have lost about 7lbs since feb of this year but really want to get serious and get the rest of this weight off. So unfortunately I have about 40 more lbs I want to loose...

  7. Get ready readers this could be a long read lol...I have been a fairly silent lurker on here but now I am ready to shout it from the roof top...I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!! if anyone is questioning whether or not the sleeve is right for you, I am here to tell you JUST DO IT...IT IS SO WORTH IT!!! I am 6 1/2 months out and have to say this has been an AWESOME journey. i have reached many milestones over the last 6 1/2 months and learned so much about myself and found the strength and the confidence i used to have. But my post is about the exciting things that have happened to me in the last 30 days! just wanted to share with those that would understand my excitement, my husband ROCKS...he is so supportive and has been fantastic thru this whole journey, but sometimes he doesnt always "get" my excitement for the little things like i know you guys "get" them cause you live them and rejoice in the same little things!! so here are my victories this last month... ---30 days ago i hit ONEDERLAND!!! I was totally doing the happy dance ...then i hit a dreaded slow down... a BIG TIME slow down.I went from loosing 2-4 lbs a week to loosing .8-1 1/2 lbs a week but i was still loosing inches so i didnt panic...I just kept working the sleeve. ---24 days ago my 13 year old son came up and hugged me as he does everyday before school, we were rushed but he just stood there and continued hugging, i asked him what he was doing...he looked up at me and told me he loved the fact he could put his arms all the way around me and connect his hands in the back! Then he told me HE was proud of ME! WHEW the tears flowed that morning on the way to work! Love both my kids! ---20 days ago i wore jeans i used to wear 15 years ago...FIFTEEN YEARS AGO...never thought i would see myself back into those...i about threw them away 10 times over the years cause i thought it was a lost cause. ---10 days ago I fit into a size 13/14 jeans at the store...that is the first time i have tried on a pair of jeans in a store since last Novembe back then i was in a 22 sometimes 24, i have bought cheap jeans on ebay along the way...but to walk into a store, pick up a 13/14 and them fitting and knowing i could actually go to and 11/12 in probably a week just BLEW ME AWAY!!! ---7 days ago I hit 100lbs lost!!! I was way excited!!! ---2 days ago i was folding laundry and thought hmmm wonder if i can fit in my husbands jeans...so i told myself dont get upset if you cant you will eventually...guess what? THEY FIT!!! WOOT WOOT!!! ---This morning i get up and weigh and i know i am getting close to my hubbys weight which has been a huge goal of mine...just something about a wife weighing less than her man...So I am thinking today is the day! I excitedly wake him up and ask him to go weigh, he was not overly excited by this at 8am on a sunday morning but he did....and drum roll please......i weighed less than he did and due to a change up in my diet and Water intake i have lost 4 lbs this week!!! Man that was just AWESOME!!! Did i mention I LOVE MY SLEEVE?!? LIke i said i know this is lengthy but just had to share some of the wonderful things that my sleeve has allowed me to experience in the last 30 days alone. Only 34 more lbs till my goal...i know it will probably be slow going and i am having knee surgery friday which has sidetracked my 1/2 marathon training i had started but hoping recovery is quick and i can get back to it!!! Marathon is first of May in OKC! Thanks for listening and keep on keeping on my fellow sleevers!
  8. Thanks everybody for the encouraging words! So great to know there are people here for us that get how the little things can be so exciting!

    Will it ever be enough?

I had this same conversation with a friend of mine today, i told her my news...that today when i did my weekly weigh-in i am down 90lbs.... i mean 90 freaking lbs in 5 months!!! That is awesome...BUT I dont feel 90 lbs lighter...i still feel like i need to wear the big baggy clothes to "hide" myself, or that I have to be the biggest gal in the room...cause I always have been...or that when someone looks at me, my mind automatically thinks they are looking at me because of how big I am... all the while i try to reassure myself it IS happening and my body is changing & i just keep telling myself it takes a while for our brains to catch up to the changes our bodies go thru. Hang in there, & for now Celebrate your loss...that is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!

    Need answers/reassurance

Congrats on your surgery date! The sleeve has been such an exciting journey...I love it!!! To answer your question yes i did write letters to my kids and husband. I had been writing down memories for them about how their dad and i met, how my pregnancy to each of them went, and memories of our family or silly little quotes they made and planned on making a journal of them for when they were older, but after i had a surgery date (which went rather quickly because i was self-pay) I finished writing those memories down, and finished with a "what you mean to me letter" to each of them and my husband ...it was very emotianal and heartwrenching for me to write these letters, but so glad i did...funny thing is i was not nervous or scared of the things that could have went wrong with surgery, but still felt it was something I had to do, I gave them to a friend of mine to distribute if need be, i picked them up 3 days later when i saw her when i went back to work. For me i am the type of person that likes to make sure I have all my bases covered, this just helped me feel like i had taken care of business..."just in case", now i have these done and can continue recording our lives together so i can finish up those journals for them
  12. Ok first of all calm down & take a deep breath!!! It will be ok and the weight will come off!!! DO NOT panic and DO NOT do anything crazy!!! during the first 4 weeks i was literally making my self CRAZY with the scale, and i finally had to put it away, cause if it would go up any...even a 1/2 pound i was having a cow, and i found myself weighing 3-4 times a day!!! i have finally gotten to the place where the scale does not control me, and i am 13 weeks out, this journey can be a mental battle on so many levels, you just have to be patient and work the sleeve, cause it is a tool. Do the basics, work to get your protien in, and sip, sip, sip...you need to get your fluids in, & both of these will get easier with time, but you have to keep working at it. Then if you feel up to it throw in some walking as well. Dont be a prisoner to the scale!!! Take body measurements as well cause alot of times if the scale isnt moving, the inches are just melting away and that is a pretty darn good feeling as well!!! Good luck on your journey, it is such an exciting awesome time in our lives!! At 13 weeks out I am just in awe of how my body is changing and my only regret is not doing this sooner!!! Keep on keepin' on!!!

    Anxious

Congrats on you surgery! wow it sounds like you have been busy!!! I to was anxious to get up and moving. After surgery i was out of the hospital the next day and had a 5 hour ride home(the ride about did me in!) But the next day, i went on a short walk outside(made it about 2 blocks i think), i was sore and couldnt go very fast or far without getting tired but felt like it was very important to my recovery to start walking asap(Just make sure to take your Water bottle with you). I am 10 weeks out now & have been walking or working out ever since. But everybody is different and start walking/excercising at differnt paces, follow your docs orders and do only what your body can handle. Your body will let you know! I had the same problem with my chewable Vitamins from Bariatric Advantage, nothing else caused me nasuea except those! I finally quit taking them and started taking the capsules and have done so much better on those. I have to take six a day but have no problem getting them in, and love the fact they dont turn my stomach! Take care and good luck on your journey!

WTH did I do to myself

Hang in there! The first week or two is the hardest! It is such a mental game...You want what you cant have. I felt awesome after surgery and thought i "needed" food to survive. Before surgery, I had prepped myself mentally for the potential of feeling poorly and sickly for weeks after surgery and having to force myself to eat, but didnt prepare myself for feeling good, and for thinking i would "need" to be constantly putting something in my mouth so it was a rough adjustment for the two weeks i was on liquids post surgery before i could start mushies. But man o' man that first bite you take will be awesome!!! And it will be here before you know it!!! You got this stay tough and think of how good you are going to be feeling in the months to come when you are getting smaller & healthier and have gobs of energy!!!

    Realistic Time Frame

I had surgery on a Tuesday and was back to work on Friday. For about 2 weeks in the afternoons i was wiped out, but i would have been stir crazy sitting around the house, so it was bet for me to be at work...If you have the time take it, like they said if you are feeling great you can always go back early.
  18. I to had heparin with my surgery, but also had prior experience with it when i was pregnant with my daughter and had to take 3 shots a day for about 4 months due to my pregnancy induced Lupus. they finally took me off of it, due to the bruising, welts, and how on fire my stomach was(i told them it was that or i needed some nerve pills cause it was driving me crazy!) Yes the bruises will fill out and all run together, so maybe that is how yours got so big, and dark. It will also most definately make it worse if you are rubbing it or itching it...makes it spread like a wildfire. hang in there girl, it took mine about 2 1/2 weeks to go away completely.

    Just a little sugar...

Have you tried the Propel Zero? They gave this to me at the hospital after surgery and I love it! There are several different flavors. I like the grape the best tastes just like grape kool-aid, without the bad stuff! lol
  20. I enjoyed your post. I am fairly new to the site, I have been enjoying this site for 3-4 months and recently joined but had never posted....I figured it was time to come out and post something instead of just stalking other peoples comments!!! lol I had surgery on 3//22/11 and it was the best decision of my life!!! I know what you mean about supportive husbands...THEY ROCK!!! Thank goodness for them, mine has been A-W-E-S-O-M-E and I think that makes a huge difference in our success!!! I am down 57.5lbs since my first appt. on December 23rd...35 of those coming off since surgery!!! It is literally like Christmas every single day since surgery!!! seeing my body change, the scale moving down, and clothes litterly falling off of me that were tight 6 months ago. I JUST LOVE THE FEELILNG IT GIVES ME!!!
