    High drain output

You know that you are going to worry. It's just the way you are. Seriously, don't hesitate to call your team if you have ANY concerns about post-op drains. I'm sure you were given "drain care" instructions. Your team will want to know what's going on that is worrying you. Only they can help you. I came home from the hospital, having had skin surgery on Aug 9th with four drains. I still have two and they are still accumulating red, yucky drainage every day. ( I will never look at raspberry vinaigrette ever the same. ) I don't know about you, my friend, but I will be hilariously happy when these last two come out! Really, give your team a call. They will be able to ease your worry if nothing else. Feel better.

What do you tell the waiter/server?

I say, "That is all. Thank you".

They are soooo much prettier than the compression garment the hospital sent me home in!
  6. I find that it is not too difficult day to day to eat post sleeve surgery---even five years out. Your "Protein first then veggies" diet becomes the "norm". Your sleeve will keep you honest about your portions. Five years out and I still have no appetite. That is not the norm, but it does happen to a few sleevers. I used to have to set my cell phone when it was time for me to eat. Once a routine is established, eating becomes easier. Also, you will find that there are probably going to be foods that you will not be able to tolerate. 17% of all sleevers experience "dumping syndrome". I do. If I eat anything too sweet, too spicy, too rich, Pasta, rice, soft bread or it I eat too fast or too much whatever I had eaten comes back up. It's part of my life now. I look upon dumping as another tool to keep me "honest". I look upon each day as a cheerful challenge. I have a goal at the end of the day where I have walked "x" amount of steps, eaten "x" grams of protein, and "x" grams of carbs. How I get to those goals is completely up to me. My diet/menu is for me to control. My weight no longer controls me. I hope I have answered your questions. If not, please to not hesitate to ask. Take care, Friends.
  7. Thank you all for YOUR words of support and compassion. Yes, even at five years out, I still feel the "warmth" of compassion. My journey is a wee bit different that most. My SO was NOT supportive and did NOT want my to have WLS. He committed suicide while I was on the operating table. When I found out, I signed myself out of the hospital and never mentioned my sleeve again until Jan.,2016. During those years I fought against my sleeve and my body and still lost 80# plus. After years of therapy, I am back on track and have now lost over 120#. I have learned to work "with" my sleeve, to "listen" to my body and to take care of "me". I consider myself finally finishing the journey that I started five years ago, but made a wrong left turn. There are many members who can tell you all about the "good times", how to do the right things, eat the right things, how not to do this and that. Doing everything the right way--the way it is supposed to be. That is wonderful when your life is running smoothly---which I sincerely hope it does for each and every one of you. I hope what I can offer you is that there is always a way to turn back onto the right path. Your sleeve will be there---waiting to help you---to work with you. Become best friends, work together--listen to one another. I hope to be able to encourage folks that have for what ever reason have had their enthusiasm wilted--their rainbow's glow tarnished. I can only speak for myself: Grab my hand-----I will NEVER let go. I promise. PS: Anyone one of you should feel free to PM anytime. I promise not to be post op cranky for too much longer.

You gunna keep "the color"???? Wonderful! I'm one week out. I still have all of my sutures, but was able to get rid of two drains yesterday. I'm having "nerve" pain that I was not expected. The surgical pain itself is tolerable, but the "nerve" pain is unexpected and unacceptable. By the way----I will NOT be posting pix of my new and "perdy lady bits". Sorry. PS: You look "Maaaavelous, Daaaaling". There are meds specific to nerve pain. Ask your doc about Neurontin. My surgeon wrote a RX for Neurontin . All it did was make me sleepy and dizzy. But thank you ever so much for your concern. Since drain #2 was removed, my nerve pain is much less, so keep your fingers crossed, please. @goddess04: I had my pannis removed, chest muscles this and belly button that and my "lady bits" purdied up. --AND NO, I'm posting pictures! Thank you all for the support. I really needed and appreciate it.

    Random Thought

Ahh, my friend, "you've been slimed"! You will find as you go what will trigger the "slimers". You are probably right this time--too much sugar. Other Slimers: too spicy Too rich too sweet eaten too much eaten too fast You will conjure your own "slime list" as you go. However, give your team a call. They may be able to help you with some wonderful suggestions. Welcome, friend!

    A New guy here

You've already done the hard part. You've recognized your obesity, you've taken responsibility for it, jumped through more hoops than you probably care to think about and are now coming to the end of the prep and about to enter, "the rest of your life". Hopefully you've ready everything there is to read. Watched all of the videos you could--gone to all of the seminars, support group meetings and pre-op classes. Now, until your surgery date: Be kind to yourself Take a deep breathe Relax as much as possible Stop listening to surgery "horror" stories Only let positive vibes into your head Rely on your research Don't overthink the surgery "Let it go" Everything from here until you wake up after your surgery is pretty much on auto pilot now. You have chosen a team of highly skilled professionals to guide you through to the other side of your WLS. Allow them to do just that. One step at a time. You will have a wonderfully joyful and successful WL journey, one step at a time. Afraid of "bump in the road"? Well, my friend, that's what WE are here for.
  11. Great post, Friend. I've decided NOT to hold it against you just because you are a METS fan. (the METS do have one of my favorites with them now---Granderson). Enjoy your joyful journey!

    Does anyone know...

I've always hated chewable Vitamins. They taste like sucking on pennies. (not that I actually do suck on pocket change. not on a regular basis anyway.) The metallic taste----yuck. I much prefer just to swallow them and have it done with. Just MHO.

    Any good comebacks?

"Thank you for your concern. You have a blessed day now. Good bye".
  14. When quoting a post, let's please not take it out of context. Here is my entire post. Thank you. Hope you all are having a wonderful, and joyful day.
  15. WTF are you talking about? Most "vets" agree it's a stupid rule. Let's not make something out of nothing. Since I'm more of a "Vet" than most, I was poking fun at myself. (sorry if you didn't get the joke. You can always "ignore" me)

  17. I know we are "supposed" to say, "Follow your own plan--whatever YOUR bariatric team told you to do, then just do it." There I said it. Personally, I'm beginning to think that "The Great Straw Debate" is just something for the old timers to nip and pik at each other about. --Like sitting across a checker board discussing how Elvis' hip gyrations are ruining the younger generation's morality. Be informed. Get your team's input. Follow your common sense.
  18. I am five years out as of last June. I still have my restriction and I'm lov'n it. I still have dumping syndrome and have come to appreciate it. I am one week post skin surgery and am cranky. What else would you like to know?

    Pop Rocks and Coke . . . .

A few years ago--just before my WLS, John and I went to A.C. for a week. The first night there, we took a walk along the boardwalk and wondered into the huge candy store there. Taking up one entire section of the store was an "adult" section dedicated entirely to "The Legend of PopRocks". There were videos, posters, instructional books, and thousands upon thousands of packs of PopRocks. At the end of the week, we had lost very little money at the tables, but won countless riches from that candy store! We even won "PopRocks, I survived the Legend" T-shirts. It's nice to see folks are still taking the time ----just to have fun.

Shoulder pain - ice or heat?

It's probably un-escaped gas from your WLS. It's saying, "out, out, out", and your body is saying, "nope, nope, nope. What you probably need to do it WALK, WALK, WALK and let the two of them argue it out! When you are not walking, start with ice, then alternate with heat---ending up using whatever relieves the pain. If your pain level is to the point where it is interfering with your ADLs (activities of daily life), give your team a call. They will be able to suggest other methods for getting rid of the gas. If it's not gas, they will be able to help with that too. Keep posting and letting us know how you're doing.
  21. First post-op done. Two drains out. Yeah! Two remain. boo. Fever stabilized. Yeah! No sutures removed. boo. New pain med. Yeah! Not helping much. boo. Drove for the first time. Yeah!! Doctor scolded me. Bless his heart. :)

Hey now! Cut that talk out. Give your self another couple of weeks and you will feel differently. I never had buyers remorse but I will say that I am not looking forward to recovery from the next round. Plastics is not easy to heal from. I am 4 weeks out from Brachioplasty and thrilled I did it but I still have nerve pain and some itching every single day. But every day gets a little better.
