8 days out and getting cold feet
Valentina replied to bobr68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cold feet? It's nice and toasty here on the "Losers' Bench". We're here waiting for you. Since you're from NY, hell, I'll even rub your feet for you!! It would be of some concern if you DIDN'T have some doubt and fear going into WLS. It is not just a diet. It is a life changer. We on this site will give you support, support and then some support. Talk to us. Read about us in "My story". Ask questions--no question is too silly, simple or non-important. If we don't know the answer, we can probably "round table" together with you to find it. Medical advise we should not give, but can point you to the right people who can. Hang in there! You're almost to the starting gate! -
I was really looking forward to giving them a try, but I see the mix has soy in it. I am extremely allergic to soy. Rats! I did try a carrot cupcake recipe that I found in a pamphlet that was taped onto the last tub of Quest protein powder that I bought. Each cupcake has (with cream cheese/protein frosting) 13g-protein,3g-net carbs (15 total carbs), 2g fiber and 140calories. For a Valentines' Day treat, they are tasty. There is also a recipe for crepes, but I haven't tried that one yet. I bought my Quest at GNC, but I know that this site sells it at their store. In my opinion it is the best protein powder that I have tried. Each shake hhas 22-23gr of protein, 100-110cal, <1g sugar. --and the taste is excellent!

AFRAID! Surgery in less than 24 hours
Valentina replied to Jessee3897's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome to the Losers' Bench!!! It's a wonderful place to stop and rest, isn't it? Now rest a bit, then get your ars up and start the best of your life! OMG!! I remember hospital jello!!! I think that is what they use to torture terrorists into talking!! Gag me!!!!! On the other hand, I LOVED sugar free popsicle. They were like ambrosia to the Gods for me. Keep us posted when you get home and "on your own". You got this! The starting pistol has fired and you're rounding the first bend!! -
Maybe a visit with your nutritionist would help you. We all need to refocus from time to time. Your nutritionist should be able to figure out your stumbling blocks--if you even have any. Make an appointment and go over everything that you have concerns about. Can't hurt and probably will be of tremendous help. Please keep us posted. We care!

Just chew each bite to the consistency of applesauce.

Welcome! I believe a great number of folks here have had WLS because they felt "they had no choice". It's an "if not now, then when" moment--at least it was for me. We are here for you--to support you on your chosen path . Whether it's to tell you of our own journey, or to answer any non-medical question--if we can. It's more than likely that you will be able to share an idea, recipe, a found Protein treasure, an experience or just chat with fellow WLS'. We welcome you and look forward to sharing the WLS world with you.

I had to actually sit quietly by myself at mealtimes for a week or so when I first started on solid foods. I had to "relearn Sleevie speech". What I mean is my sleeve was trying to teach me when I was full. I just needed to pay close attention (with no distractions) to be able to learn. He either sends me a small burp or a hiccough. At first I ignored these clues and ate until I started to "feel full"--just like the ol' days. Big mistake! One should never ignore Sleevie's clues. He retaliates by "dumping". Sleevie's revenge!!! Once I patiently learned to listen to my body, I was able to pay attention to the little burp +/or the small hiccough and accept that I was full. ---and to my surprise, I was!

4 months out and EXTREMELY EXHAUSTED!
Valentina replied to Nikki Monroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree. Maybe you and your NUT need to have a conversation and "revamp and tweek" your diet/exercise regime. It might be something as simple as lack of sunshine. A lot of people get fatigued this time of year. Seasonal depression. Please, feel better and keep us posted. We care. -
What upsets your sleeve now?
Valentina replied to ididit34's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, it's rice, Pasta, and any condiment that's sweet---ketchup, bar-b-q sauce, honey mustard, etc. Any bits of any of them are not part of my sleeve's idea of" good company", so an immediate "eviction" is to be expected. -
Starting to shift and make room for you on the "Losers' Bench". You got this!! Keep us posted. Valentina

@ LipstickLady, I will pray for you that you may receive the peace of acceptance of all peoples and their mannerisms of idea and speech without feeling that you have to be abrasive to be able to share your own ideas and speech. God Bless you, Be healthy and happy, Valentina -
I believe you need to relax. Trust yourself and your journey, Miss Connecticut . Vigilance is a necessity, but obsessiveness is strength zapping. I put the word "RELAX" on my mirror in my bedroom. On the fridge I have the word "TRUST". Those are just for me. No one needs to know what they mean. My small gift to myself. You got this----you know it!!! Valentina

The Best and the Worst: Your Weight Loss Surgery NON-MEDICAL Experience
Valentina replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow! I thought I was the only one who no longer enjoyed going out to a restaurant. The fun is gone. I find myself restless, bored and wishing I was anywhere--doing something. I love my daughters and their families. They are my foundation of happiness right now. Sunday is my birthday and of course in the past we all have gone out to eat. This year, I found the "strength" to try to explain to them what I really wanted was for them to go as we have always done on Valentines' Day, but without me. Going and having a good time is gift enough for me. When they get home I can open my birthday gifts ( ) , and nibble a small piece of cake--after my grandsons blow out the candles. Maybe I'm being selfish and should go, but I know I'd be miserable. After all, it is Valentines' Day and my two daughters deserve a lovely dinner out with their hubbies. Anyway, thank you, Dubs for letting me know that it's not just me. -

No corner standing going on here. I am stating my opinion of all of the discord here. There is no need for it. If you are honestly taking offense to anything I have said then I have made my points: Stand down, take a deep breath and enjoy the diversity, not the divisiveness. I will pray for you. Valentina -

"Weiner selfies"? I guess one has to be from the North East or into Politics to get this. Sorry. ("Weiner" as in Anthony Weiner, the former Representative from N.Y.. Although the other way fits too - pun intended). Bingo! -
I had a wee bit of popcorn during the game also. I put a Tblspoon of Nutritional Yeast on it (which added about 6g of protein) and it was ever so yummy!

I blame it all on gravity!

Why we're practically neighbors in a upstate NY kinda way! I used to show my poodles at the State Fair Grounds in Syracuse twice a year and I have two nephews who live in Liverpool. It's great to have a Buddy this close. It seems that most of the folks on BP are from the south or west. Anyway, I just wanted to say "Howdy", from The Catskills!!

I know two women that had WLS in Albany, NY, but I think both of them went to Albany MED. How are you doing since your surgery? Do you live in the Albany area. I live in Stamford, NY and looking for a WLS friend close to home. Hope you are healthy and happy, Valentina

Isn't the whole point of bariatric surgery--self care??? Well, why don't we all get back to that central point? We share our ideas, our successes, our failures and our dreams. After that it is up to EACH one of us to cherry pick from other's statements and experiences and to apply or not apply those into our own lives-- SELF CARE. Please, stop already with the bitch slapping and start appreciating our different opinions. Valentina
