I didn't think it was so literal
Valentina replied to csawesome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What does your surgeon's office say? Diarrhea can quickly turn into dehydration. Don't wait much longer before you call them. Please. The first days are tough enough without getting dehydrated. Feel better and keep us posted, please. -
You posted that you work within the same hospital system as the office where the fax came from. If you look at your HIPPA documentation there is a statement in there that there is a relaxing of HIPPA rules when "communicating within the same hospital systems, and their representatives." Was there some mistakes made? Yup.--on both sides. In this day and age, no one should never fax personal information that you want to keep confidential--unless you KNOW that the fax is going to a PRIVATE fax machine/computer. Once again, I have to question the reasoning of "hiding" one's bariatric surgery?? Are you ashamed of having it?? --afraid of what others with think?? Does it really matter? Aren't we all supposed to be having WLS for OURSELVES?? Especially those of us who work or have worked in the Healthcare field. I would hope that we would want to set an example.--to stand up proudly that we had the courage and determination to conquer our "disease demons". I find absolutely nothing to hide nor be ashamed of by having WLS. Once we try to hide it, cover it up or lie about it, --that is when the spider web of telling two lies to cover up one lie and so on and so on. I don't know about you all, but my memory isn't good enough to remember what lie I told to whom. Getting back to the faxing fiasco: Lesson learned by all involved--I hope.

Most insurance companies will approve skin removal surgery if there is another surgery needed that is not "cosmetic".

One year after sleeve surgery can you eat a whole bagel with cream cheese?
Valentina replied to Gail Ann's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see that you are in NY. Me too. Maybe you just need a "sit down" and a "long visit". Where is NY are you? (no, I am not a stalker. I think you need a "talk'n to) It sounds to me like you not only are off track, but really never got on track or even found the railroad station to begin with. You're mindset is confused and confusing. I am almost 5yrs out and would be sick for days if I ate a whole bagel--if I could get it down, which I don't think I could/or want to. I could eat the whole thing if I took a whole day to eat it. When on the road, why not a 1/2 chicken salad from Wendy's? It's wonderful. Or a piece of grilled KFC? Pick up a Quest bar if you're crunched for time. There are all kinds of available choices out there. You just need to think ahead. You can do this. You know you can. You have either forgotten "the program" or never heard it to begin with. Why not stop by or call your bariatric team's office and pick up/have mailed their program/nutritional info? Get back on the team! It's time to "come home". -
I have hypothyroidism too. Sucks, doesn't it? It is slow going, but I am still losing. I chose not to go on medication for it. Lord! I swallow enough medication now to choke a goat! On the bright side: with your hernia and bladder repair you should have little or no difficulty getting any needed/wanted skin surgery approved. I think you're doing a fantastic job on your journey. Keep moving forward, friend. "You ain't done yet". I have hypothyroidism too. Sucks, doesn't it? It is slow going, but I am still losing. I chose not to go on medication for it. Lord! Surgery was the 30th. Help!
Valentina replied to kaciii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have ANY question---call your surgeon's office. That is part of the package of after care--which is soooo important. Never under estimate the importance of after care. If for no other reason than to put your mind at ease. You have plenty to concentrate on now. Post op questions need to be answered by your surgeon. Call in the morning and feel better. Life is about to get exciting! -
It's your move. What are you willing to do about the violation? Every medical office has a "HIPPA representative. Some one could very likely lose their job. You would be justified--if that would "make it better". It's your move.

Skin on my chiny, chiny, chin, chin.
Valentina replied to Tssiemer1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You all talk'n 'bout my turkey waddle??? Yeah, I have one. Yeah, I hate it. I just have to decide whether at 63yrs if I want to undergo skin surgery. I can cover up loose stomach skin, but there's no hiding a flapping neck. -

Buy Hyacinths
Valentina replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Absolutely loved the poem. The smell of hyacinths, however, gives my a migraine. But: I loved the poem! -
I, too travel the same path. The anniversary of my S.O.'s suicide on the morning of my sleeve surgery is approaching. My heart cries for you, my friend. I have fibromyalgia and take Cymbalta for that. Cymbalta is also an antidepressant. It really does help get me through those "memory moments" when I say to myself, "why do the birds go on singing" (remember the song?). I'm thinking if your therapist in her/his educated opinion offers you a "tool" , ( just like your sleeve is a "tool") and you are willing to work with it, then why not? You will know soon enough if the RX is helping. Go for it. Feel better.

Things you forget to ask....
Valentina replied to MomOf4OhMy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I always asked, "why am having this test"? I wanted to know everything about everything. I refused to have any test just because,"it's routine". For example: I was scheduled for a sleep study. I had NEVER had sleep apnea--ever. So, I discussed my concerns with my surgeon. I agreed to have a pulmonary function testing instead. Worked for me! Sonogram of my heart? When I knew I had a cardiac abnormally since birth. I got my past reports from my cardiologist--no sonogram. Worked for me!! I hate unnecessary testing--just to be able to check the "done" box. If there is a qualified need, then fine. Maybe it would help you if you carried a pad and pen with you and whenever you think of a question , write it down. Then when you see your doctor next, whip out your list and ask away! -
When is it a good time to eat noodle
Valentina replied to Darlene Ennis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 5yrs out and still can not eat rice or Pasta. I am one of the lucky "sleeve dumpers". I say lucky because dumping keeps me honest and true to my sleeve which is still working for/with me. I can eat "miracle noodles". They have no calories,no carbs, no nothing. They are available in most pasta shapes as well as rice. Why not give them a try? -
Be careful! Be very careful and mindful. Please , do NOT just leave him to "deal with his own issues". My S.O. was non-supportive, and afraid for me to have my sleeve surgery. I followed others' advice and went ahead and had my surgery without first making sure that he was at least comfortable with it. He committed suicide while I was having my surgery. PLEASE, take all the time needed to ensure that your main support person is in a "safe place" about your WLS journey.

Wonderful! Maybe we should go and have a cup of coffee to Celebrate our new lives! You got this!! One sip at a time... I'll keep your spot on "The Losers' Bench" warm for you.

ME!! I never gave up coffee and have absolutely no intention of ever doing so. For every cup of coffee I drink, I drink an extra 8oz of Water. Whatever works--and having my coffee not only works for me, but for anyone in close proximity! In fact, upon waking up in Recovery after my spinal surgery I was given Fioricet for my anticipated caffeine withdrawal headache. Fioricet is 1/3 caffeine. I knew and my bariatric team knew that my morning coffee was a "stay" in my life. We, together worked out a regimen that works for me and allows me to have my coffee. No secrets between patient and MD leads to no surprises postop and enhances the percentage for success.

I just had a visit with my Nut. last Thurs.. She actually recommended that I ADD a greek yogurt/frozen fruit (no added sugar)/no sugar almond mild smoothie every day. She thinks my daily menu is lacking carbs. Time will tell, but it sure does add a well appreciated flavor bomb to my taste buds. Right now I'm taking a smoothie to bed with me instead of a Protein shake. I sip on it during night.

Go home day of surgery? Anyone?
Valentina replied to Stacey78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
why? -
I have coffee every morning. If I don't have my coffee it is best for all creatures--great and small---to be afraid--very afraid.. Whenever I feel ill, I drink diet gingerale--just like Mom gave me many, many years ago. I think every WLS person has to mix and match their own needs/wants within their individual program. You'll know soon enough just what your sleeve will tolerate and what it won't. There is no template that is "one size fits all". It's up to you, your sleeve and your bariatric team to solve the puzzle as to what pieces will fit together to make your new life --picture perfect.

Surprised at how fat I am
Valentina replied to Diana2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too spent too much time being inactive after knee replacement and spinal surgery. Now I spend 4 days a week in the Water. I soon hope to be able to do one day/week in the gym, but I'm just not there quite yet. My knee says, "nope, not yet", but soon. Meanwhile, splish, splash... -
Sleeping After Sleeve Surgery
Valentina replied to Changed2016's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a stash of pillows waiting for me at home, because I, too am a belly sleeper and was anticipating a problem. With the pillows placed here, tucked there, under this, supporting that --all was well in dreamland. We belly sleepers are a stubborn lot, aren't we?
