MY new discovery hope it helps someone
Valentina replied to Juhygtfrdsd's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I kkkknnnooowwwwww. Aren't they tasty when wanting something light and sweetish? I have a young grandson, so we enjoy them together. and I use the containers for my crocheting hooks and scissors. -
Families. We all have them---for better or for worse. Sometimes it must seem to them that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Some of us bitch if no one comments on our weight loss, and then others don't like what we hear when our families do comment. And sometimes isn't it great to know that whatever else is causing stress within the family we can count on our mothers to say what's on their minds? "Just say it and get it out so now we can deal with it", kind of reaction. I would rather know what family is thinking rather than hear what they are saying from mutual "friends". I believe that sometimes we, as children (no matter what our age) need to give our mothers a "pass", every once in awhile. Choose our battle , so to speak. Address the comment with her, air it out and come to terms. Don't be the child that stands over a grave thinking, "if only..."

Do you have to eat? If it repulses you so, why don't you just stick with the Protein Shakes until YOU are ready to eat? Maybe you're just not ready to eat yet. Everyone is different. Why not call your surgeon's office/nutritionist's office and ask. It's worth a call if doing so will possibly make these first few weeks easier. Feel better and let us know, please.

Of course, we are interested because of course we care, silly. Welcome!! We will start warming your spot on "The Losers' Bench". Your new life's journey has just begun!! You're "gunna love it". Please, let us know how you are doing ASAP.

5 Days out of VSG
Valentina replied to MissSunshine_danimarquis's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Unless you are a veterinarian, don't be looking that gift horse in the mouth! Every one is different. Your weight loss is normal for you. It will slow down, stall, and speed up again and again. Enjoy the ride! -
You got this!! You know it, because I know it. You've been approved, now you're pathway has been cleared. Look down the path. It twists and turns with numerous bumps and crevices, but there it is--just for you. It is your journey to make. It can be tedious or joy filled. It is up to you. Your new life awaits!

OMG! No raw pureed food in the puree stage post op ...
Valentina replied to OzRoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wonder why no raw fruits/veggies as long as they are pureed? (and peeled) -
So far, so good. By the way, my daughter's sister-in-law who lives in Va. Beach also bought one on Amazon. Hers, too is Water PROOF.
-
That's what I said. It's a Fitbit charge HR, purchased on Amazon. I only called them to clarify any confusion only to end up more confused than ever. I saved the box and the pamphlet just in case there is any questions further down the road. They wanted to know if I wanted to send it back in exchange for a new one that is Water resistant. Hell no!! I love my water proof Fitbit.

First time posting! Broth prep?
Valentina replied to Sandy GlueStick's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made my own broth for awhile, but nowadays, I just buy wonton soup broth and add nutritional yeast to it. It not only adds a "bready" full body flavor to broth, but adds an additional 7-8g of Protein per every 2Tbls serving. Just do whatever feels "right" for you and your home life. You'll do just fine. We'll keep the light on for you next to "The Losers' Bench". I made my own broth for awhile, but nowadays, I just buy wonton soup broth and add nutritional yeast to it. Sometimes the hardest thing to accept is that we are worthy
-
Aaahh, but if you weren't worthy, Addgirl06, you wouldn't be having the surgery at all. See? BELIEVE IT long enough and sure enough, it will be true. YOU are very worthy, my friend.

Thank you Valentina, but I wish I really believed that. I feel so embarrassed by my weight, I just want to stay home and not have to leave other than for doctors appointments.

I know. I have read and researched and actually called. I even sent pictures of the box that mine came in to Fitbit for clarification. It clearly says, "Water proof", on two different places on the box as well as in the pamphlet that came with it. When the Company asked me where it was purchased, I told them, "Amazon". Like I said I've worn it everyday since my b'day--Valentines' Day--3/wk in the pool. ????

You're in good company here. There are several "good ol' folk" within this support group. I, myself am 63yr. As you read and post you will become more familiar with everyone. Yes, the "younguns" outnumber us of "golden times", but as my mother would say, "what do they know?". I am far too polite (?) to tell you the other's ages, but they will tell you. You are very welcome here on, "The Losers' Bench".
-
--probably would be easier to find a buddy within your age group if we knew what your age group is... just saying... Welcome!

My fitbit charge HR is Water PROOF. It was ordered from Amazon and came with all of the documentation telling about how it is waterproof. I have worn it three times a week swimming since Valentines' Day without incident.

Have the ginger ale, just flatten it. It's the ginger, not the bubbles that settles the gut. Feel better

Having a very hard and discouraging time at the plateau
Valentina replied to arex's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe going to some support group meetings will help. I think you "need a talk'n to". Your "mojo" needs a boost. It's worth a try, isn't it? Everyone every now and then needs a revamping. Get moving! Your journey is not complete. You got this, my friend. -
Non Scale Victories for the week......let's celebrate!
Valentina replied to GibbsGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went kite flying with my grandsons. Even if I am able to do so because I am finally healed from my spinal surgery , I would have never been able to fly kites 84#s ago. Today I am humbled and blessed-- and-- Smiling. Who doesn't smile when flying a kite?? -
Medication question
Valentina replied to lydwalt85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I set the alarm on my cell phone as a reminder to take my meds. I have heard that some folks are taking the gummy or chewy Vitamins as their part of their morning and afternoon Snacks as they are sweet. I just find that setting my alarm is easy for me. You'll figure out what works for you. Sometimes a talk with your MD or even your pharmacist can help decide what can be taken with what. -
I had it in my right foot along with a bone spur. At that time surgery was not done. I went to PT for stretching 3x/wk for a month. One of the specialty doctors in our practice was an orthopod, so whenever I had a dog show coming up he would wrap my foot for me. OMG! I would have married that man (unfortunately we were both married)!!When he wrapped my foot, I had absolutely no pain. It took 18months, but the pain finally did cease. I have had no reoccurrence since--10yrs. I have heard that surgery is now being done again for plantar fasciitis. Good luck. Feel better.

I didn't think it was so literal

Feel better and please keep us posted. We care. Prayers going up for you. -
You posted that you work within the same hospital system as the office where the fax came from. If you look at your HIPPA documentation there is a statement in there that there is a relaxing of HIPPA rules when "communicating within the same hospital systems, and their representatives." Was there some mistakes made? Yup.--on both sides. In this day and age, no one should never fax personal information that you want to keep confidential--unless you KNOW that the fax is going to a PRIVATE fax machine/computer. Once again, I have to question the reasoning of "hiding" one's bariatric surgery?? Are you ashamed of having it?? --afraid of what others with think?? Does it really matter? Aren't we all supposed to be having WLS for OURSELVES?? Especially those of us who work or have worked in the Healthcare field. I would hope that we would want to set an example.--to stand up proudly that we had the courage and determination to conquer our "disease demons". I find absolutely nothing to hide nor be ashamed of by having WLS. Once we try to hide it, cover it up or lie about it, --that is when the spider web of telling two lies to cover up one lie and so on and so on. I don't know about you all, but my memory isn't good enough to remember what lie I told to whom. Getting back to the faxing fiasco: Lesson learned by all involved--I hope. You know. I've been sitting reading and rereading this trying to decide if I was going to comment. Sorry, but the ugly monster got the best of me. Valentina- I may be new-ish to this forum but why do you think it is ok to bash someone who was sickened at the thought of her personal information being spread around a large office? You say you aren't ashamed of having surgery- good for you. But do not project your opinions on others as though you are right and they are wrong. In fact- YOU are shaming anyone who does not subscribe to your belief that you need to tell everyone your business. Heck- I bet you have told tons of people who actually couldn't care less. Who we choose to share our surgery with is our own business and ours alone. That goes for you. Rent a billboard for Petes sake. But don't think for one moment it is ok to tear down those who think differently from you. As for Hippa laws- there has not been any "relaxing" since the days it was set in motion. Your facts are wrong. I've been a healthcare provider since 1985. Been there. Done that. When she is acting in the capacity of a patient, her rights are to be maintained just as any other non-employee patient. Opinions. Everyone has one and that's what I have given. If you don't agree, well that is you're opinion. On this subject. On this day. I gave my opinion. FYI: My S.O. committed suicide the morning of my surgery. So, you're damned right about my opinion about having WLS is nothing to be ashamed of, nor something to hide! MY OPINION: Stand up, be proud of my journey because now I have to travel that journey alone. I will NEVER again keep it a secret. ON THIS DAY, ON THIS SUBJECT, THIS IS MY OPINION. As far as the HIPPA statement---I know of what I speak. I was a Medical Specialty Administrator for 30 years Doctors are always going to "have an out" wherever there might be the slightest chance of malpractice. The clause of which I wrote is there. I paraphrased it, but it is there. Been there. Done that and have the T-shirt that says so. God Bless.

Why is everything sweet?
Valentina replied to doppelganger's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same issue. Sweet, sweet, sweet. I began to think that the entire world thought that the only thing that obese people eat was sugar! Gag me!! I did two things: First I added Nutritional Yeast to broth. It really adds a "bready" and savory flavor boost to broth. Plus, 2Tblsp add 7g of protein. The second thing I did was to take a cucumber, a tomato and fresh basil along with a Tbsp. of Vinegar and olive oil and two Tbsps. of Nutritional yeast--put it all into a blender and blended the dickens out of it until is was pure liquid. This "cocktail" was my reward for doing two days of sweet crap. It cleansed my pallet and gave me a light at the end of the sweet tunnel. I will add, with any change in your program, PLEASE talk with your nutritionist first. -
