What does your bariatric team say? Almost every team has a different program, so they are the ones that need to guide you as when it is OK for you to have a salad. Myself? I got so sick of everything sweet, that I blended a tomato, cuke, chives, vinegar and oil until it was completely pureed and enjoyed my salad when I was in the pureed stage. I received my team's approval and enjoyed my "salad" twice a week until I got to solids. Now I have a regular salad with Protein whenever I want as a meal. Good luck! Don't you just love a good salad??

Welcome to ,"The Losers' Bench", new friend. You are certainly warmly welcomed here. We are a conglomerate of sexes, ages, personalities, races and religions. The one thing we do have in common is WLS--either post op or pre op. Everyone that I know of tries to be supportive to the best of their ability. Sometimes we get a wee bit off tract and get "wacky", but always in a "lov'n" sort of way. We try to remind each other when we see some one edging off track. We share our bitches and our brags and that's a good thing. Sometime we all just need to bitch--knowing that there isn't really anything that any one can do about whatever has made us "cranky", but that too is OK. --and isn't it good to have friends who share and appreciate our "victories" along our journey's path? Feel free to ask ANY questions you may have,(hell, it doesn't even have to have anything to do with WLS--though it's probably should be ). Even if we individually don't know the answer, we as a whole will find one for you. Again, Welcome!

If it's bothersome to you, then please call your MD's office. Don't wait until you end up with serious problems. I'm not saying that you do have anything serious. I'm just suggesting that you call and let them guide you . I know I always have a RX for Ducolax/Colace for just such times since my sleeve surgery. Feel better.

Quandary over chosing a new PCP
Valentina replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in The Lounge
Why not make a "get acquainted" appointment with each? It's done all of the time when one is "shopping" for a new MD, DDS, etc. I would just ask for a "consultation" and go from there. Make a list of questions that you need answered and ask those same questions of each MD. That's my opinion. I hope it helps a wee bit. Good luck. -
Post Surgery Home Care
Valentina replied to SamBwaR3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, Sam. Are you having any additional surgery/procedure done other than your WLS? I- remember reading your posts about climbing flights stairs while at work and practicing your "sipping", so I'm thinking that you should be "A O K" by the second day after surgery to fly solo. Hell, I drove myself home from the hospital. Do I recommend that? NO! , But one has to do what one has to do. You got this, Sam. You are motivated and have a super good attitude. See you on "The Losers' Bench", my friend. Prayers going up. -
Welcome to "The Losers' Bench". If you have concerns --about anything really, contact your bariatric team. They will be able to guide you best so early in your journey. My guess is that you might just be a wee bit intimidated by "real" food---afraid to start eating again? It's only my guess. Oh, maybe you're sleeve isn't ready for pureed food yet. I'm 5years out and I still don't get "hungry". If I'm out and about I set my cell phone's alarm to remind me to eat. So, friend, please give your "team" a call and by all means come back and tell us what they said. You got this! One bite at a time.

Valentina replied to csawesome's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. Not such a big difference. If you can't see the similarities and the "holier than thou" attitudes expressed here, then------------well, I'll pray for your enlightenment. Educate/support with patience, tolerance and example----not by ridiculing, mocking or sarcasm. Prayers going up. -
Sure did! The very day that I made the decision to have WLS, my S.O. and I went to The Fishery in Keyport and had platters of the freshest seafood (raw, broiled, and fried), complete with sides. It is a fond memory for me. Every time I remember my food funeral, I smile. I don't have an inkling of regret about having it. Not one. I repeat. If some of you don't get it, then you just don't get it. For those of you that do...

--or stuffing one's face until one becomes obese... We're all being just a wee bit too judgmental here. Let's ease off, please. I'm sure the point has been relayed. God bless. -
4 days post op. What's with all this foam?!?
Valentina replied to breezy25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As my grandson says, "You've been slimed!" I used to have that slimy phlegm frequently. Now I still have it but only when I have too much liquid in my sleeve. It just seems like it's never ending, doesn't it? To ease your mind, give your bariatric team a call. Be sure to post after talking with them. I, for one am very interested in hearing what they will have to say about "the slimers"... Oh, I find that having something something salty(even a salty broth) will help to cut the phlegm--just like pouring salt onto a slug!.. Sorry for the anology -
Pre-op weight loss?
Valentina replied to loca_lette813's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just about every program has different requirements. Some just have to see a weight loss. Others want to see a percentage (5-10%) loss. Still others it will be one's insurance company that will set the guidelines. It will all depend on your insurance together with the bariatric team that you have chosen. -
Week 9 at another stall
Valentina replied to tiffani tomlin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wouldn't you just love to "embrace the stall" right around its neck?!----and then toss the sucker dead into a ditch?!!? -
The only surgeon that I have any knowledge of from that group is Fiaris Hamdi--AKA Fiaris Bridges, sorry. If you have done your research --as in past complaints, any malpractice suits, past experience (don't be his first patient--MY personal opinion), fatality percentage, even community involvement, AND your gut feeling is comfortable with his competency then you have done all that you can do. Your journey is cleared for take off!

Lucky us, right? I get dumping syndrome whenever I eat anything sweet or spicy, or if I overeat. I don't know why some sleevers insist that dumping is only something that by- passers get. NOT TRUE. Dumping is more common in by-passers, but sleevers get it also. I've come to consider dumping a wonderful tool to have along with my sleeve. Dumping keeps me honest and on track with my eating. As my grandsons say, "Granny, you've been slimed!" Use dumping as your friend. What other choice to we have without making ourselves miserable? "Embrace the dump!"

Did anyone get clumsy after weight loss? (and 3 month check up)
Valentina replied to james1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've had many "klutz" moments. I've come to think that my center of balance is so different that my "mind's eyes" can't keep up with my weight loss. Does that make any sense? That's the only explanation that I have. My body is so used to having a balance a large chunk of ---well ME, that now that I have less mass, I'm just flinging myself around as if I still had it. But, being lighter I am overcompensating and becoming clumsy and unbalanced (physically---well ok, maybe a wee bit mentally as well, but that's a story for a different day ) Anyway, that is my theory and I'm sticking with it! -
Beef is usually a tough Protein to tolerate. Sometimes a "wet" beef is tolerated better--such as beef made in a crock pot or a stew beef. Wait a while and then try it again. I have never had a problem with any seafood as long as it is moist. Whether that means a "Newburg" recipe or buttery, seafood is just yummy and sleeve friendly for me. Just take little bites and be patient. You'll be in no big hurry anyway, right? You'll be celebrating! Have a wonderful anniversary dinner.

I've had my morning coffee with 1/2 & 1/2 every morning and every afternoon, I have a cup of Earl Grey tea. I have done so since the day I got home from the hospital. My surgeon and I had that conversation at the very start of my pre-op routine. That is one reason why I keep trying to persuade folks to be 100% honest and upfront with their surgeons. When the entire team is on reading from the same play book, the chance of success is much higher. Coffee was something I knew I would not be willing to give up, so together we worked out a program that compensated for it. For every cup of coffee/tea, I add equal amount of Water to my daily intake. Ask and discuss your concerns with your bariatric team. Go Team!!

I've always been taught that after a major surgery, it takes the body a full 6 months to fully recover. On top of that, add that your entire calorie in/out process is completely upside down of what it was pre-op. Be patient and kind to yourself. You deserve it. Feel better and give yourself time. You'll "get spunky" in no time.

Please read the above. I feel you must have forgotten it. God Bless.

The world of imagination is open to you!! Anything that you cook in a crock pot can easily be pureed in a blender. Crock pot and blender---great Sleeve accompaniments!
