Its been a long time coming.
Valentina replied to Ms. Thompson's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd have to say that you are "just about right". If you didn't have the jitters and a healthy dose of fear, I do believe you would be "the odd one out". I always like to tell folks to make two lists: 1. a list of everything you've wanted to do but couldn't do because of your weight and how that feels 2. a list of your dreams, and wishes for you and your daughter and how that feels Now, which one do you want to feel for the rest of your life?? Have you decided yet? I thought so. See you on "The Losers' Bench", my friend. -

New PCP for surgery process?
Valentina replied to SarahSleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why not just talk with the PCP that you have been seeing since the other retired? Have a one on one , take a list of questions so you don't forget to ask everything you want to ask and just sit down and "have a chat"? -
I'm 1 month post I'm have the same issue with pasta, chicken.. It just doesn't want to stay down. I wonder if it's just too early?? nikrny3816 Pasta? I'm 5yrs out and still can't eat pasta and rice is even worse. I can tolerate chicken if it is very, very moist--like if it's cooked in a crock pot. For my pasta/rice substitute I eat "Miracle Noodles". Google them to find out all about them. When washed, dried and cooked properly they are wonderful. Good luck in your search.

What happens if you start puréed diet a day or two early?
Valentina replied to KLSUMM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can take what you just cooked (try a crock pot next time) and add nutritional yeast to it. It adds a "cheesy/bready (is "bready" a real word ? ) when mixed in. 2 TLBSP add 7-8 gr of protein for only 40-45 cal. "Try it--you'll like it!" It sounds like you got this! BUT: wouldn't hurt to run it by your nutritionist, would it???? -
I did, my friend. ")

"One step at a time", right?

Start saving for the deductible and at the same time, start seeing a therapist about your fears. Right now, it doesn't sound like you're ready for what very well might be the most life changing journey of your life. As far as the post op meds and Vitamins, ask your surgeon to write RX for medical strength meds/vitamins. That way you will only have to pay your co pay. Fear can be paralyzing. Work on yourself before you allow a surgeon to do so. Please. Prayers going up for you.

5 days post op - No BM - can't get ahold of doc
Valentina replied to breezy25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you're concerned and can't get ahold of your surgeon's office, go to the nearest ER. Make sure when you get there you tell them that you can not get a response back from your doctor! This may not be serious, but what if it was? Any doctor's office not getting back to a patient by the end of the day IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! Feel better and let the BM's roll! -

How to Change your Mind....
Valentina replied to treblecutie23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I took me four years--first finding a therapist that "clicked" with me, and then working with her every week until now I am at least "at peace" with myself. Finding that one "special" therapist I believe is the magic. Keep searching until you find him/her. I wish you well. As you have learned--your body is only half of what needed "fix'n". Your mind is the other half. Treat it with as much love and care and determination that you did with your body. Only then will your WLS journey have the true happy ending that you deserve. Yes, YOU!!!! Prayers going up for you, my sister. -

headaches from hunger?
Valentina replied to Sandra McConnell's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your bariatric team. Headaches are no fun, and nothing to play with. Dehydration, High/low Blood Pressure, medication imbalance all can cause headache. Even an increase/decrease in weather fronts coming and going can cause a head ache as can stress, excitement and depression. Just a thought: have you given up caffeine? Caffeine withdrawal can cause horrible headaches. So many possibilities---so many of us nonmedical friends giving you our opinion. Really, friend, call your doctor. Please. -
Wow! That's surprising. I'm not saying it's wrong by any means. I'm just surprised. So, if one's goal weight is 250, their protein intake should be 250g? Wow! I guess it just goes to illustrate just how different all of the WLS programs are. If a male weighed 500# plus, they could very well have a goal weight of 250#. If I am following the poster's program, I would aim to ingest 250gr of protein/day? I'm just asking. Is that what that particular program aims for? I am still pondering this program's recommendation for protein intake. There are many WLS folks whose goal weight could very well be 250#. My question is--according to the above post, are those folks supposed to ingest 250g/daily? I am not being negative or accusatory. I am simply asking the question. Looking forward to learning...

Normal? I wouldn't call post op nausea "normal", but it certainly is not uncommon. I'm somewhat surprised that you did not come home with a RX for nausea from the hospital. So, what to do? In the morning, please call your bariatric team and let them "fix" your nausea. Early post op is difficult enough without being nauseous. Yuck ! For tonight, I would sip on some flat diet ginger ale. Ginger will help settle the gut. Just be sure the bubbles are gone. (my non professional suggestion) Feel better and please post and let us know what your team did to help you. Prayers going up for you.

Feeling Unqualified or Ill-Prepared for Surgery
Valentina replied to Ignatius's topic in The Guys’ Room
Dig deep, my friend. Way down inside is the determination and strength that you haven't realized process---yet. You'll find it, but you will have to get serious and --dig deep. Make a list of all the things that you want to do, but your weight is keeping you from doing. Make a list of all of the reasons past attempts to lose weight have failed and how that felt. Study and memorize both lists and decide which list you want to have as you mantra--forever. Round up "your team": your support group (hopefully family and friends), Financial team (insurance rep, and bariatric coordinator), technical team (nurses and PCP and medical support folks), a WLS supportive therapist (someone who truly believes and supports WLS), Nutritional team (nutritionist, dietitian) who you feel comfortable with for the foreseeable future, and your bariatric surgeon--just don't settle for the first one YOU interview. Make sure that the two of you "click". This relationship can make or break your success. Take your time rounding up your team. They will be your life line during your journey into your new life for years to come. I am excited for you. This is an adventure like no other. What wonderful experiences you will have! You will wake up with a new view of yourself and your day to look forward to--not just endure. I look forward to welcoming you to, "The Losers' Bench". Keep posting. Keep searching for information. Keep asking questions--small and great. One thing NOT to do----DON'T YOU EVER DOUBT YOURSELF OR YOUR WORTHINESS!!! Not EVER!!!!! Head up! Forward--always forward, my new friend---and---DIG DEEP!!! -
I use Quest Protein powder and bars. GNC has samples of each flavor. Several of the protein powders manufacturers have sample sizes for one to try. Good luck and happy hunting!

I average about 65gr/day.
