When do you tell someone new you're dating you've had WLS?
Valentina replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would tell about WLS before you two go "out and about". If you don't tell, some one that you know and run into in public is going to tell. (as mentioned above). That would be a deal breaker for me. WLS is just another part of you being you. Like: "what's your favorite movie", "what's your favorite music, or "what's your favorite color"? As soon as "what's your favorite food" comes up---well, "There's you sign"! Good luck. Dating is for the brave! -
I'm just grateful that at my age ANY man can get me excited! :0

Welcome to the "Losers' Bench", Friend.
-
Dub, are you watching Sam Elliot for the same reason that we ladies are?? "Great Actor", right?? Thought so...
-
"Release the hounds"!!!!!!!!
-
Sam Elliot? I've had "visions" where he would sit on my dresser and just talk to me. just talk with that voice of his---mmmmmmmmmm. aaaaaaahhhhhhhh Now, Dubs, if you want to break the world's record for watching TV, you will have to continuously sit there for 95hrs. The record of 94hr was just set a couple of days ago. Are you up for it????? Happy watching!!

I would recommend that you do not see what others have written. This letter should come from within YOU. Just start writing. You will be surprised, I think on what shows up on the paper. Do this by yourself---for yourself. PS: write it in cursive so in days to come it will be "in code" because future generations are in jeopardy of not learning cursive.

Surgery is tomorrow morning!
Valentina replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Exactly, my friend. If you can't keep fluids down, PLEASE call your surgeon--just to let them know. You certainly do not want to get dehydrated. . Please call and FEEL BETTER. Prayers going up for YOU. -
I believe that we all have to "pick our battles" through our beliefs and inner self. We have to remember that we are talking about WLS here--nothing else. What we decide is best for ourselves ----what we can lay down at night with and not torment ourselves about whether we "told the truth" or not to OUR OWN CONTENTMENT is completely up to us--the individual. To bring other situations---other dilemnas --other awful traumas--past sins--past horror stories is not on the consciousness of this thread. We all have to make the decision of whether to be "open" about our WLS for ourselves. There are hundreds of different scenarios about "to tell" or "not to tell" and most will fall somewhere between the two. That is up to each of us to decide and deal with the consequences of our decision. Be at peace with yourself. What feels right within yourself. Do whatever you know you can live with without "lowering your eyes". On this date: MY opinion. Prayers going up---for all of us.

Whoosh effect and weight loss stalls
Valentina replied to xochtlem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! Yes! and again, Yes!! I found that the legendary "race horse" and I had a great deal in common within the peeing category last night and this morning! Lordy! I thought I was never going to stop... -
Yes. It was given back to me the morning of my surgery.

I had lost more weight than required pre op, so one beautifully sunny day in May, my S.O. and I went to the Jersey shore where I was given a very grand, and delightfully fun filled food funeral. Those memories will be with me for a life time. Do I regret it? Not for one second! Believe me, eating is NOT the same after WLS. Is it healthier? Sure. Can I eat Pasta without dumping? Nope. Can I eat rice without dumping? Nope Can I eat anything overly sweet without dumping? Nope Can I eat anything spicy without dumping? Nope Have I ever liked chicken? Nope Am I allergic to Beans--especially soy?--which limits my choices? Yep Eating just isn't "fun" anymore. Am I healthier? Sure Am I thinner? Sure Can I fit into smaller clothes? Sure Do my joints appreciate bearing less weight? Sure Do I miss "the fun" of eating? Every day Do I regret having WLS? Not anymore. I am much healthier than I was before WLS. Now all I have to do is find a way to be happier. That, too will come.

Where did you have your surgery? Have you thought to call them and ask these questions? I, for one, would be interested in their reply. Let us know. Keep on Keep'n on!

Whooo Hoooo!!! Welcome to, "The Losers' Bench". Rest a moment and then---GET MOV'N!!!!

Holy Mother!! She just needed to call her MD!!!! She says that she is old enough to decide to have WLS, and to have sex, then she is old enough to pick up the phone and call her MD for ANY and ALL medical concerns. I believe this is a "put on (or pull up) your big girl panties and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF", young lady. We are all here to give you all the support in the world, but medical advice is for your MD and NO one else. Please do keep us up to date on your well being. Just because we can not give you medical advice does not mean that we don't care. WE DO CARE!!! Prayers going up for you. PS: A woman doesn't have to necessarily an "active" participant to have sex.---only the lucky ones! She can be rather still and even dormant--sad to say.

Did you call your MD?????? That is what you REALLY need to do. He/She will have the medical answers to your medical questions. Please, call.

Sugar free sherbet and Italian ice?

Price Chopper carries both. -

Then, you go , girl!! You and hubby, just hang on tight to each other and ---away you'll go!!! I couldn't be happier for you--both. Prayers going up.

Since one never knows who is a medical professional and who isn't on this site, isn't it better to rely on one's own known professional MD? Once some foks see something in writing, they take it as "fact". Without doing their research they might take some wrong information (as well meant as it might be) as medical certainty. I believe it is ill advised if not dangerous to not only accept medical advice online, but to give it as well. One can ask for support, or "life lessons", or "past experiences", put I am leery of giving "medical advice". I believe that we are all here not only to give support, but to receive it as well. In the support department, this site truly does go above and beyond. On this day---MY OPINION.

thatagirl!! They may not have mentioned calories if counting them is not part of your pre op requirements. You may be stress free in that department! Go with it, Friend! You got this!

Unprepared for the pain...day 4
Valentina replied to Ruth1ess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't mean to be pushing ( really, I do! ). Have you called your surgeon's office yet? You have every right to be pain free--as much as reasonably possible. Call, what can it "hurt"? Please? -
Not telling people about your surgery is a "half truth" or a "lie" steams me like a pile of fresh cow dung...
Valentina replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
If you don't want to talk about it, you can just say that you don't want to talk about it. Once you go into details and leave out the surgery, you are no longer being completely truthful. It's your right to not be truthful, but you have need to own it. So what you're saying is that in all the scenarios I listed in my original post, you would give full details? Really? WLS??, if asked? Exactly. -
I hope pre op diet instructions and guidelines were given to you. No one should go into WLS uninformed. If you did not receive any guidelines, please call your bariatric team and ask for them. You deserve to know what you're getting into, what to expect from your surgery as well as from yourself. There are many many WLS programs within the WLS community. You need to find the guidelines that are YOURS. Others on this site can only give you what THEIR guidelines were/are. You're special and deserve to know your special "road map". You will feel much better equipped when you have YOUR facts. Have an exciting WLS journey!, but remember to stop every now and then, and enjoy the moment as well as the journey.
