When will I stop regretting this surgery?
Valentina replied to LadyJustice007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not everyone does get over the regret. That's why everyone thinking about WLS needs to read about the rough times and the those who never get over their regret. Does it happen a lot? No. But it does happen. You have to be prepared to face "the stormy" days or risk being swept away by the tsunami that follow. I believe you need to be strong and determined enough in your decision to have WLS to do it ALONE. Only then will you truly be doing it for yourself, by yourself--love yourself. If you were expecting your journey to one of going down, "The Yellow Brick Road", sorry. It's just not--unfortunately. Research, and read and read and read, and talk to as many WLSers as possible--both positive and the regretters. The latter is where you will receive that most thought worthy information. Best wishes on your upcoming journey. It most certainly can be the most exciting and rewarding path you will ever follow. Prayers going up for you. -
When will I stop regretting this surgery?
Valentina replied to LadyJustice007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The sleeve is the only WLS that is not reversible, so we have to wrap are heads around "moving forward", not looking "back. Your regret could very possibly be the hormonal "flush" that happens right ater surgery. Try to focus on why you had WLS in the first place. It's not a surgery for the weak of heart or determination. Force yourself (if you have to) to find that "silver lining". ---all that you will be able to do at a lesser weight.---how much healthier you will feel. ---how "maaavelous" you are going to look with that red dress and spiked heels. Oh WOW!! OK, maybe a little black dress... Keep posting. Prayers going up for YOU. -
call your surgeon. This close to your surgery, he/she needs to be your first call. Your headache could be anything from caffeine withdrawal to "medicine head", to dehydration to who knows what. Please, call your surgeon. Keeps us posted----we care about YOU. Prayers going up.

The Great Arse Face Experiment (Or - Does Haemorrhoid Cream really help with your turkey neck?)
Valentina replied to KindaFamiliar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So, here's the plan: Spread some of the "roid" cream onto a kotex pad, then secure the pad to your ears. I guarantee you NO ONE will notice the "roid" cream. (selfies of "the plan" are a requirement of the experiment) -

Look into your insurance. Some, including mine either pay for or will reimburse for a gym/pool membership if related to a weight loss program. It's worth a phone call. -

scale victory/non scale victories
Valentina replied to sbg224's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
!Great job! Knee replacements are the most painful surgery of record. ( FYI) They are the stuff of nightmares, aren't they? But after therapy, it is soooo wonderful to have a knee that doesn't hurt. I know I don't regret my knee replacement one single bit, but --OUCH! Keep up the super good work, my friend. -
Can we add a little fruit to our protein shakes?
Valentina replied to ld33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great! I was just going to post that I add frozen tropical fruit--mango, pineapple, etc to my Protein Shakes instead of ice. Yummy!! -
I would love to wear one--someday. However, until I deal with my "apron" I would have to pick up belly skin in order to see the bikini bottom. But, I have dreams...someday, right?

My weight loss tip of the day: Eat your meals while standing in front of a mirror naked. The restaurant will certainly kick you out before you can overeat!

Don't give up on talking with him! Talk, then talk, then talk some more. PLEASE!!!! DO NOT go into this surgery without giving him and you EVERY oportunity to be supportive. This is why I strongly believe that it should be mandatory that there be at least one "couple's session" with a therapist PRE OP. --or better yet, a SO session with a therapist. That would give his/her fears/opinions a chance to be heard and addressed. You are going to change after WLS. You are his "better half". Maybe he doesn't want you to change.--or is fearful of you changing. PLEASE, take the time and EVERY chance to gets his support. I promise you, you will not regret doing so. Prayers going up for the both of you.

Something to think about, isn't it? What a smart young lady to be wondering about this now. I wish I had. Of course you will change after WLS. That's what it's all about, isn't it?--changing the way we eat. The choices we make. The activity level we choose. --even the company we decide to keep--or not. AND another thought to consider: What will your husband think of "the new you"? Will you be the same person he fell in love with? It's a fair question. Talk to him about how HE feels about you "changing"--even if the change is for a healthier you. I strongly believe that a "couple's session" with a therapist PRE WLS should be mandatory. --or better yet, a mandatory SO therapy session.--just to give the SO a chance to voice his/her feelings about WLS and wrap his/her head around the "changes" that will certainly happen. I applaud you for giving this issue serious thought. It deserves it--and so do you. Prayers going up for you and your journey.

"We all walk different paths in life. How we get from A to B doesn't really matter as long as we get there." Really? I have learned the hard way that it certainly DOES matter how one gets from A to B. I hope to God that you never have to experience what I did before you learn how much it does matter. I will pray for you. MY opinion about the cost issue stands. One is definitely worth waiting until one can save the funds/qualify for funding. to have the surgery here--at home---in the USA. I repeat: if everything goes well, going to out of the country for WLS is a find choice. I'm not that much of a gambler with my well being. When researching, one needs to investigate the "dark" side of having WLS out of the country as well as the cases with happy endings. That is my point! The "bad" experiences percentage is way too high. I am a USA flag waver, I admit. I do not think that is a bad thing. On this day: MY opinion.

If a bariatric patient--at least where I live has to go to their local ER for a bariatric issue, their bariatric surgeon is called and is seen by that surgeon within 24hrs. Kinda hard to do via Mexico. Are complications rare? sure. But when they do happen, it is better to be here in the USA then across boarders. I want and deserve to have the earned trust, hands on, and individual attention/support of my bariatric surgeon who I can communicate with face to face. I deserve to be treated as an individual and not a "business number"--flown in and out--similar to conveyer belt. One can and should do all of the research possible, but all of that information does not and never will replace the sage advice accompanied by a hand grasped in re assurance and compassion. That kind of support one can never get over the internet. The poster asked for opinion and that's what they got. MY opinion.

I have seen a WLS surgeon on each and every visit. --and that includes a move across state. I would never go outside the USA given the choice. Why? Follow up care isn't important? --only if nothing goes wrong. Incidents of DVT from sitting on long flights, ER visits for dehydration instead of seeing your own bariatric team, any question for any concern-ever try to file a "complaint" or a malpractice suit across international borders? Good luck. The success rate for satisfaction for a wrongful deed is less than 3% when trying to file a case in Mexico. -I want that surgeon/patient relationship that can never be duplicated by "internet medicine". Is going to Mexico cheaper for self payers? probably. Are you not worth the extra money to be able to have the personal care here in the "good ol' US of A"? On this date; MY opinion.

Are they soy free? -
First, dumping is different than not being able to tolerate a food because your sleeve isn't healed enough yet. Only about 17% of sleevers have dumping syndrome. Some of that percentage will phase out of it eventually. Some of us--not so lucky. I will be 5yrs out this June and still experience dumping whenever I eat: anything overly spicy, anything overly sweet, rich, or greasy.--all things I shouldn't be eating often anyway. I don't necessarily view my dumping as a bad thing. It definitely keeps my honest and on track. Believe me when you "dump" you will remember what you were eating at the time and will vow not to eat it again on purpose for a very long time. I hope I have answered your question.

Now the "mad scientist recipe adapting" phase starts. It really can be so interesting exploring what you can make or remake old family favorites into more WLS friendly versions. Enjoy this stage. It really can be joyful.
