    ABG test rant

Yes, Friend. Hand IVs/Blood draws are generally more painful. Your hospital IV won't necessarily be in your hand. It's still better than a swig of whiskey and a bullet to bite on, right? I don't mean to make light of your pain. I know you were in a lot of pain. For that, I am sorry.

    ABG test rant

In the hospital? Anesthesia dept. will probably be the ones to start that one. However, ASK. Can't hurt to ask for someone from anesthesia to come and start your lines. Believe when I say that they are the very, very best at it. Rest easy. You know what to do now.--Just ask. I hope you find out just why an "ABG" was needed. Please come back and post the reason. Yes, I'm nosy, but I really care too! Prayers going up.

Don't kill the messenger but: ABGs usually have to be repeated---a few times. ugh.

    ABG test rant

So sorry that happened to you because there's on need for that "digging" Are you a person who normally presents with a "difficult" blood draw? Even if you're not, when drawing an ABG, it was always recommended (in my multi-surgeons' offices) to call "anesthesia. Those folks are wizards when it comes to drawing blood and starting IV lines. Hopefully, you can make this painfully experience a "learning one". Next time you have to have an "ABG" or a difficult blood draw or a tricky IV placed, please ask for a tech. from anesthesia. Once again, I am sorry you had such a bad experience. Prayers going up for a joyful WLS journey--from here on out.
  5. Margie, Good morning, I lived in the 190s for what seemed to be two life times. I hated that stall. I finally (with my Nut's approval) overloaded my daily into with Protein for three days.--120--130g Maybe that just shocked my body, but it worked for me. Will that work for you? don't know. I just felt like I needed to shake my body awake. I am restricted in my exercising right now, so my options are limited. Does your Nut have any suggestions? By the way: CONGRATS on your very successful journey so far. I hope it has been a joyful one--until this stall. Please, post and let us know what great plan you come up with to kick your stall in the arse. Prayers going up.
  6. Exercise tip of the day: Pick up your scale , bend over and place it in front of the fridge. :)

  7. Exactly--what he ^^^^ said. Please check before going "off plan". Post and let us know.
  8. Sorry for my late response. I like the "flaked" variety. It seems "heartier". I buy my Nutritional Yeast at my neighborhood Health food Store.--out of a bulk barrel. It is sold on Amazon and Walmart, but it costs more and I think it's over refined when bought at a retail store. I keep mine in a grated cheese shaker. No need to keep it in the fridge. A serving is 2TBLS-----7-8gr protein/40-45cal There's also books explaining the benefits of Nutritional Yeast and recipes sold on Amazon. Good luck. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Prayers going up.

    Starting Now - Prep

Welcome! After wedding (best wishes!) and honeymoon planning, WLS planning will be "a piece of cake" (no. don't eat the cake ). I think now is the time to be an "information sponge". Read, watch, talk WLS. As much as you can. No one can have too much information. Your bariatric team should be giving you some ideas of what you should have on hand for pre-op prep and post op liquid diets. Like: A Protein powder that you like and it likes you. Shop around for samples. Many companies will supply free samples. GNC has single serving paks of Quest Protein Powder (the brand I like) in all of the flavors they offer for a minimal fee. Protein clear drinks that will help you get your require protein and fluids in per day. sugar free ice pops----a life saver the first week post op. Home made broth--frozen beforehand. A determined mind set--which sounds like you already have. Keep posting any questions here. No matter how simple or silly it may sound, we have all been where you are now and know how "it is". No matter what the question, there will probably someone on BP that has experience with whatever you have on your mind and can help you or at least talk about the issue through with you. How exciting? A new marriage and now a new WLS journey! 2016 will be your "year to remember". Prayers going up ...

    Can I eat this?

Hey! I raised and showed--and judged poodles for years. I love the standards-silvers and blues. Anyway, I digress---anytime for poodle talk! I just add lemon go tuna. and lots of it. Keep posting and let us know how your journey is going. I know it will be joyful since you have poodles! POODLES RULE! Prayers going up.
  11. Tip of the day: Lifting your butt off of the sofa is NOT considered "lifting weights". :)

  12. Though I never had any surgery by either of the surgeons you mentioned I do believe that the surgeon you end up selecting is of the upmost importance. The surgeon/patient bond is sancisanct. I am proud of you for having the insight to change when your "little voice" was telling you that "something was amiss". That took courage--really. Keep posting and let us know how you WLS journey is going. We're nosy AND we care! Prayers going up.
  13. Exactly! What she ^^^ said! I wish I had been able to communicate all of that to my SO before my sleeve surgery. Now, I think not only is communication important, but VITAL! Please try to find a way to build a bridge between your difference---not a wall. You two have your whole marriage life to walk together. Make it as joyful as I pray your WLS journey will be. Walk both journeys together. Prayers going up.

    Sugar

What are your dumping symptoms? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App flushing, stomach aches and then vomiting. ---all of the fun stuff.

    Coffee

I never went "off" coffee. With my team's knowledge and approval I included coffee into my WLS journey daily menu. Since each surgeon has his/her own WLS plan, you should always check with them about add/deleting anything from your regime. It never hurts to ask. Let us know what they say. Prayers going up.

    Loss of taste

I've heard of that happening. Is it due to the anesthesia? or being intubated? After WLS, my tastes have drastically changed and flattened, but didn't disappear completely. Please let us know when you find out why this happens. Prayers going up...

    Gallbladder questions!

exactly. No fun. If you are experiencing pain to a level where it is concerning you, call your bariatric team. They know you better than anyone. Call and make sure . prayers going up...

    Sugar

If I eat just a wee bit, I can get flushed and have hot flashes. If I eat anything overly sweet or rich I can go into a "dumping syndrome" episode. Not fun.
  19. According to the BMI chart...I'm too short!

May guardian angels watch over you---now rest, my friend. Rest. You have a journey of a life time waiting for you tomorrow. For now, lay your head down, and rest. --on the, "Losers' Bench"---we will wait for you there. Prayers going up for a joyful journey for you.

    Liquid diet

Did your team give you suggestion on what you can have? If you can have Soup, then I recommend homemade bone soup-strained with Nutritional yeast added. Doing so will make your broth more savory and give you added Protein. Hopefully you have found a Protein powder that you like and it likes you. I use Quest protein powder. GNC have individual size paks so you can try the different flavors. I hope this helps a wee bit. I'm sure others will have some ideas for you. I am 5yrs out. I'm old! --and have a lousy memory. Happy hunting!

    Summer Reading

My mom used to have a copy. I haven't read it since the '70s. One of my favorites is Ann Morrow Lindberg's Gift of the Sea. I give it as a graduation gift often. J.L. Seagull" is worth a re-read. What's it going to take you--20mins?? Reading it ought to be mandatory for high school--in my opinion. There's sooo much between the lines is such an easy read.

and what about the neru jacket??? And did you do a book report on, "JLSeagull"???

    Need encouragement

Now is the time for you to stop, take a deep cleansing breath and rest. You've done the most difficult part---you recognized that you needed WLS and you jumped the hoops to get you to your surgery date. Meditate on all of the benefit WLS will allow you. Dream of the healthier you and all that will mean to you and yours. The emotional roller coaster, the "bumps in the road" will come later. But for now, my friend----rest. You will soon start your journey of your lifetime. --scooching over on the, "Losers' Bench". We will wait for you there. Prayers going up for you .
