    Post-op pain

I am a strong believer that if your mind is ready, your body will follow. If you're of a positive attitude and have no post op complications, I believe you should be ready to go back to work at a white collar job. Now, don't prove me wrong... I HATE being wrong! Best of luck and keep posting on how your journey is progressing, please.

    Sleeping positions

I put a pillow here. Tucked one under there. Stuffed another between this and that. It took 6 pillow total, but when I finally got them in the right position------aaaahhhh, pure heaven!! Good luck and let us know how you finally got a good night sleep.

    Tomorrow is my day

Alright, you two----if you weren't worried, or in an odd mood, you two would be "weirdos".. Really, WLS journeys are long and life changing. BUT you both have done the hardest part---you've recognized your disease and are ready to "face the demon". Tomorrow you will start the most challenging, but also the most joyful, rewarding journey of your lives. Hang on and enjoy the ride! There will be "bumps" in you path. That is what we are here for--for "bump removal". Whatever problem you may face, I am confident that there will be someone here who has faced the same "bump in the road" and can help you or at least talk you through it. Support is SOOOOO important. That you will ALWAYS have here on BP. Meet you on the ,"Losers' Bench". You will like it there. You can rest there--for a moment. Post and let us know how you are doing post op. We are absolutely nosy, but we also care. Try and get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow your journey begin!!!

    Nail polish/Acrylic nails

If the OP is unsure of the answer, then call for specific clarification. If there is still some confusion-----Take it off. --all of it. Better to have to replace the nails (and yes. I used to go every week for a fill and every three weeks for a new set), then to be at the hospital and have your surgery cancelled. My opinion.

How Do You Stay Cool Without Ice Cream?

I make smoothies: 1 scoop of vanilla Protein powder 1 handful of frozen tropical fruit 10 oz of flat diet soda--orange is my favorite 3 ice cubes OR I'll make a vanilla Protein shake with almond milk add: root beer extract 3 ice cubes Tastes like a root beer float. (I actually serve it in an A & W glass that I've had for many, many years. Try it--you'll like it.
  6. After all is said and done, my favorite body part is my brain. Whether I'm fat or thinner, it has remained sharp and on point. If I can learn to listen to my brain more and my hormones less, I know I will be able to stay focused on my WLS journey. I was side tracked for so many years when I was listening to my heart and hormones. My brain tried--really tried to "reason me way out of the fog When I finally stopped blaming myself for circumstances beyond my control, took a deep breath, looked at my world rationally, I could almost hear my brain "sigh" as if to say, "finally, Girl. It's about time you heard me". I am ever so grateful that I did. Yes. I am most fond of my brain.

    Loose skin

Hello, ol' timer! Here I am 63yrs and heading for skin surgery. For vanity??? Hell no! Those days are gone --along with the Yankees winning season! However, I am having skin removed to save my spine. Go figure, right? My orthopod and my bariatric surgeon agree that removing the loose skin will keep me from having another spinal surgery. So bye, bye skin. AND as long as he's "down there", he will "fix the thighs and lady bits". I'm just glad that at 63yrs I still have "lady bits" that warrant fixing!
  8. Going to the cemetary with my youngest grandson to have a picnic with great grandpa. No tears--just great family stories told from one generation to another. Happy Fathers' Day!

    Loose skin

Loose skin. I don't know of anyone who loves it. However, I'd rather have the loose skin that all of the fat that used to fill it. I believe that there are many factors: How long you've been obese How much weight you lose How fast you lose the weight Personally, I think genetics play a role How elastic your skin is. Given your stats I wouldn't think that loose skin will be major for you. I say all of this as I, personally am heading for skin removal surgery this summer. UGH! Keep posting and letting us know how you and your skin are doing.
  10. Spaghetti sandwich? There is someone else who used to do that besides me? Spaghetti, home made spicy sausage and mushroom sauce that had reduced all day on a simmer, miracle whip and a slice of havarti on soft white bread. It's no wonder that I gained weight... Take off the miracle whip and put the rest of the yumminess onto a crusty rye and we could be star crossed fat friends forever!

    Not feeling good

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time getting on track. I would first suggest that you call your bariatric team, tell them everything that you just posted and let them guide you. They know you better than we do and have the expertise to do something about it. Sometimes our pain meds can become our enemy. They can raise havoc with our bodies while helping us control our pain. Sometimes our body seems to go into slow motion--including digestion when we are on pain meds. They can also cause severe constipation. If you're concerned enough (rightfully so) to post here, PLEASE give your WL surgeon's office a call. Post and let us know what they say and how you are feeling. We care--really we do. Feel better, friend.

    Protein powder

I use Quest Protein powder. GNC sells sample single size packs of every flavor Quest makes. I use the vanilla shake flavor and enjoy it. If you go online, some of the manufacturers will send you samples of their products--some for a fee, and some for just shipping and handling. Happy hunting!

    Post-op pain

Rest easy with the knowledge that what ever your pain level is, your bariatric team is experienced and ready to help you. If you whatever post-op pain med you wake up on is not controlling your pain, speak up and tell your nurses. Every one is different. Some pain meds work well for some and not at all for others. Your Bariatric Center of Excellence will be there to help you figure out what pain meds (if needed at all) will control your pain. Trust them. Trust yourself. Now, go and worry about something else---- you know you will. We all do! Keep posting and allowing us to follow your progress. I have the hunch that you will do very well.

    Unsupportive family

I am so sorry that you have had to endure these "bumps" in your WLS journey. Support is soo important Hopefully, when it's your wife's turn to start her WLS journey, you will stand tall and NOT play "titt for tatt". Prove to her and yourself what true support is all about. I bet she'll thank you --in so many ways.
  15. Thank you, Dr. KF. I feel much better now. Maybe it's your advice, maybe it's my percocets. Either way, Life if Good!

Their new hospital is gorgeous--complete with pianist in the lobby! Nice touch. The bariatric wing is completely separate and adapted just for bariatric folks. I would love to have my skin surgery there, but my insurance won't cover if I go out of county. Oh, bother...

    5 Days Post-Op- Pain

I would say, "no" to a waist trainer---too too tight. If your team suggest a heating pad, then go with that AND walk. I know it's difficult, but you must get up and move. It's hard for you to believe right now, but walking will help. Historically, the surgical pain will peak around the 3rd day post-op. That is when your body is finally fully "awake" after general anesthesia. So, friend you are over that hump and heading down the straight away! Keep moving and keep remembering that the pain will lessen AND having your WLS will be soooo worthwhile. Keep posting and letting us know how your journey is going. I hope it will be a joyful one for you!

exactly--what he^^^ said. I would add that The Bariatric Center of Excellence in Middletown-- Crystal Run is outstanding. It's in a band new building. All the rooms are private and all equip to "fit" the bariatric patient. Wishing you well as you start your WLS journey. I hope it will be a joyful one.
  19. Dear Dr. KF, My back is screaming today. Do you have a cure for Fibromyalgia??
  20. For me, its spaghetti sauce. I used to adore it as "the ambrosia for the Gods". Now, just smelling it makes me nauseous. I think, maybe because it's too rich for me post op. I like just fresh tomatoes--heated and seasoned with fresh herbs served over miracle noodles. Just think--I used to eat cold spaghetti for Breakfast and take spaghetti sandwiches for lunch to school. Oh, the times---they are a chang'n!

    Food allergies

I thought the bean thing was tough. Good luck. Maybe we'll hear something new during this new thread. Thank you, O.P. !

    Food allergies

Now, THAT would be wonderful! I am extremely allergic to all Beans and peas-----especially soybeans. Those nasty little buggers have sent me to intensive care four different times. Soy is in EVERYTHING!--even canned tuna! Yep. it's true Anyway, I am going to follow along with this thread. Maybe there's some news about this topic. I am 5+ years out and so far no difference. Oh, bother.
  23. Fibromyalgia may not kill me but there are days when I wish it would...TODAY IS ONE OF THOSE DAYS!

I used to be a self inflicted guilty mess after my SO committed suicide the morning of my sleeve surgery. It's taken me 5 years to get to the point in my life where I can stand strong again. I'm almost to where I want to be---almost.

You are a true inspiration. You've overcome so much and have come out the other side a very caring person. I love it that God never really finishes with us......we are all still "works in progress."
